The reason the band is called Bandwhore is because there's gonna be like 60 different musicians involved in the project. Also Derek is THE MAN. Both his forum, and George Kollias' were the best back in the day. I miss those days

The better question is, if he’s still playing this way at his age, why can’t Lars properly play Dyers Eve. Also, new David Diepold: Obscura video out and new Chris Turner video, both of which you’re probably aware of, but…yeah. Best drummer reactor, btw. Too many people try too hard.

Derek is and always will be the best. I bought Nile's "Black Seeds of Vengeance" in like, the 6th grade and had never heard anything like it. I had no clue about drumming and my tiny prebuscent brain imagined that he had to record every individual drum separately. I remember when those early Hate Eternal cams came out I'd skip class to go to the library to watch them. Thanks Derek, glad you're still killing it!

And something totally different, but Deafheaven's drummer, Daniel Tracy is an absolute beast too with insane stamina! @@DerekRoddyDrummer Wow, thank you Derek for explaining and taking the time to respond to comments! Now I remember what you told on Drumeo about putting your index finger on top of the stick to get a higher pitched snare sound. That Drumeo lesson has really benefited me in developing an effective practice regime by setting time limits for every excercise (something you told the audience). Massive thank you for the inspiration and everything you have done for extreme metal drumming. Looking forward to hear more Bandwhore stuff🤘

Derek Roddy has the claim to the greatest blast beat ever imo, about to minutes into The Victorious Reign by Hate Eternal he plays a genuinely breathtaking blast where he adds in a rimshot that totally changes the complexion of the song. Such an incredible drummer.

I was lucky enough to see hate eternal live in the early 2000's in Perth, Western Australia they ripped hard and I remember the venue was double booked with an electronic gig so they were denied an encore, on the way out there was some very angry and unimpressed metal heads taking it out on furniture glass doors and so on...the good old days 🤘

All the new ‘popular’ death metal bands are terrible. It’s either super duper technical death core plastic sounding ish type stuff or the really bad bands with no chops trying to rip off bolt thrower and obituary stuff because they can’t play fast at all really or barely. The days of prime hate eternal are long gone.
