@@nathandrums0 it’s well known that Lars is and was heavily involved in writing and structuring the songs throughout their career, he’s written a huge amount of lyrics along with Hetfield also, it’s very much a collaborative effort between the two of them. I’m not denying that his live performances can be sloppy especially over the last decade or so. But he’s been massively influential in both metal drumming and songwriting throughout his career and that should never be forgotten, is my point. The original comment “Metallica couldn’t have been Metallica without Lars” is absolutely on the money
@nathandrums02 жыл бұрын
@@StephenReillyDrums I think you took my little joke out of context a bit. Lars is more of a songwriter than a drummer. If he was equally skilled at both the songs wouldn’t be good is what I’m saying lol. Not get on the “Lars is shit” train but “sloppy over the last decade” is underselling how far he fell as a drummer. Lars hasn’t been the same since the black album and a little bit prior so we’re talking 20 years here.

The Biggest Reason Lars does not Practice as often is that he is too preoccupied with Other Facets of Metallica in order to keep the Band/Brand Running. After Cliff’s death, he started to take more Obligations with the band to make sure nothing goes wrong. There’s literally a quote out there with Jason where he asked Lars why he doesn’t stay to rehearse, and Lars said something to the effect of like, “I wish you knew how much stuff I have on my plate.” At this point, Drumming and playing live is just a luxury for him.

The only complaint that i could have against Lars was the very inconsistent tempo's in later years, in terms of the fills, they are great and fit the songs perfectly. The part of the video where they're just in a room together is them just having fun and jamming. They're not playing seriously to begin with, just to warm up and have fun before a show. I don't understand why he would find that bad then. And he has definitely sharpened up his skills in 2021. They play around album tempo now and Lars is way more consistent, much better. The whole band has been practicing under lockdown and sound great.

I don't think you get the reason of some of the parts. Lars plays fills where there aren't supposed to be. You would have to watch a full song because here its kinda out of context. Lars basically fills too much where it does not fit or is out of place. 3:57 this fill is weird, snare snare snare tom1 _pause_ snare snare tom2 _pause_ snare snare crash, compared to the album where its smoothly snare snare snare tom tom snare snare crash. 4:02 this snare I mean I guess whatever, but it doesn't groove at all nor belongs at that part. 4:22 no its not. 6:31 none of anything what Lars did in that whole thing there is in the song but they are rehearsing anyways so they can rehearse it as much as they want and just goof around, the problem is that Lars unironically plays stuff like that Live. 7:04 I don't know what he does here some weird snare playing, on the studio version and in his early days live he played something like tom tom kick kick tom but the fill after that weird snare stuff was nice. Lars also plays a big part in my drumming. The rest of the video I don't agree with but these parts that I marked were just the things that should have not been.
