Been learning about scopes, I’ve never owned one before I bought my crossbow a couple years ago. I have the umarex airjavelin that comes with removable peep sight and umarex fusion2 that comes with a cheap 4x32 scope. I was pleasantly pleased with a budget scope I bought on Amazon, pinty 3-9x40 range finder scope. I tried it on the fusion2 and got it zeroed easy enough, although December in Canada isn’t ideal for CO2 I would take three quick shots go back inside make adjustments and allow everything to warm up before taking my next three shots. I decided that it will go on my Airjavelin since I’ll be shooting further distances with it than the fusion2, I had a dot sight kicking around and just finished sighting it in on the fusion2, since this is Canada my fusion2 shoots at around 480fps with lead so squirrel or rabbit hunting will be a distance of no more than 20-30 yards at the furthest

A realistic overview. Yes, you get what you pay for and for simple plinking on a low budget you really cannot expect too much but yet still have fun. Set your budget and buy but you may be rapidly disappointed with your shooting accuracy and precision once you start to aim at targets rather than cans. For vermin control, the humane answer is going to cost more. In all, save up the pennies and get a quality set up. I was asked for advice from a friend with squirrel problems who wanted rifle, scope, bag, and pellets for under £200 . I pointed him to a good local gun shop to get advice on a second hand with that budget in mind. I would be interested in Andy's view of the rifle to scope cost ratio. For me, would suggest 3:1, so a £300 rifle might suit a £100 scope? It is also worth thinking the other way to avoid paying too much for a scope that would exceed the capabilities of the rifle.

Great reviews love watching them :) not often I comment on a particular product but I have a cheap Walther 4x32 scope its $50 dollars Canadian (my home ) it’s one of the cheapest scopes on the Canadian market and specially designed for springer rifle recoil or so they claim. I set it up once and have literally put thousands of pellet,s downrange with a springer rifle with this scope and it has always held zero and can still hit bottle caps 65 feet away almost every time and very clear to look through. Really a nice scope fora low budget shooting worth considering I don’t think anybody would buy this and didn’t feel they got there money’s worth.

Andy, thanks for the video. I am going on year 3 of my air gunning adventure so I have been dismissed from your class but I wanted to ask why you left off the CV-LIFE line of scopes (Amazon). These scopes come in the 3-9x40, 4-16X44, and 6-24X50, all with AO (Adjustable Objectives!) for under $55 American. I have the 6-24 (not really getting the correct magnification but still works good at, lets say 16x)... it hangs in there with my most expensive Hawke scope and I only paid $53 for it! Thank you. A much needed video. Getting older sucks bud. Optics with magnification is a must after say 40. Most of the scopes on my PCPs are under 130$ and only 1 is over 50$. I do like the 30mm scope tubes the most though but the 1” tubes on these budget scopes like you said not bad at all. I do however do like magnification of 4-16 or more on the higher power and at least 44 mm objective with parallax adjustment capabilities. Very nice review enjoy Spain and Oh while you are there...would it be possible to find out and settle the question about Daisy Hollow point pellets made in Spain being simply Gamo Red Fire without the red polymer tip. They are both under the same roof, Daisy and Gamo and both made in Spain. On my digital scale the Daisy weighs 15.4 grains and the Gamo Red Fire with the tip weighs 15.8 and without weighs 15.4... so go figure. The softness is the same and so is the design similarities. You have the charisma and are far more articulate than most, so I believe you could get this info out of them. Thanks again love your videos and what you share with all of us here in the states. Thanks much for your video. It was very helpful for novices like me. Here's my question: When looking thru your scope at your target, how do you tell if your eye is perfectly aligned? Please let me know if it's right to say that you approach the "sweet spot" as you minimize the overlap of the ocular lens and the objective lens. I have a nice scope, which is 2-7x33, but it has no parallax adjustment. The parallax is fixed at 60 yards. Still, when I shoot, I try to eliminate and ocular-objective overlap, and I don't have trouble with accuracy at 15 yards; of course, at 15 yards, I shoot at the 2 or 3 power.
@stevephillips87192 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy nice review but you might want to talk to an optics specialist. There is a myth out there that the diameter of the tube has somrthing to do with the light transmission. This is entirely incorrect. Primary effect is from the objective size and lens quality the coatings are next. A greater diameter tube allows for more elevation to be dialed in, hence the rush to make 30mm+ scopes for the longrange community.

Hey Andy, Thanks for your excellent information and comprehensive review of scopes. I recently bought four Gamo Swarm Magnum Gen 2's and decided to upgrade the BSA packaged 3-9x40 to the new line of BSA OUTLOOK 3-9x40 AO scopes and am on the wait list to buy their new upgraded BSA OUTLOOK 4-12x44 AO scopes. I don't realistically expect to shoot at or hunt game beyond 75 yards, but probably my kids may, when these rifles are theirs. I don't know if this is overkill, but there have been a lot of complaints about the previous generation of scopes and a lot of positive reviews of the newer generation of the BSA OUTLOOK models. In your opinion is the BSA OUTLOOK line capable of handling the double recoil of the GAMO SWARM MAGNUM GEN 2'S or have I been suckered into buying sub par scopes? I don't know enough about airguns or scopes to know what to look out for, so if you can tell me what kind of scope damage to look out for or how long the scope should last it would be much appreciated. Stay Safe, Be Well, God Bless.

Hi Andy. Loving the review and the channel. I have a question I'm sure you'll be able to answer. I'm in effect brand new to the sport and shoot in my small back garden, at the moment, which is just under 30 ft long from the firing position. I wear glasses which means I have focusing issues so wondered if a scope would help. I've been looking at the Hawke 2-7x32 Mil Dot AO. Is this my Best budget scope option. Thanks
@robinx42313 жыл бұрын
Any scope will help. Andy said that as well. You wearing glasses is not an issue becuase they are correcting your bad eyesight (if they are not you need to see the optician again). The range you are shooting at in your garden is only 10 yards which is very close range for even the most basic air rifle. With all said, the cheapest scope that Andy reviewed (cost £22) should be more than adequate for you plinking at 10 yards. What would be most important for you though is that you ensure that the scope you get is properly mounted and sighted for your rifle. Lots of other tutorials on KZbin showing how to do this.

Very good video and one of the best demonstrations of parallax error! The scope diameter (1" or 30mm) makes virtually no difference whatsoever to the amount of light that a scope can transmit. The lens quality, the lens coatings and the lens alignment precision have a much greater effect. Even the best high end scopes can only transmit around 90% of available light at most. The other thing with cheaper scopes is how long they will last on a recoiling gun. They may look good and work reasonably well for a few shots, but how many of them can cope with a high recoil over a few thousand shots? (sometimes, depending upon the gun you use, it is better to save up and buy a bit of quality that will last for years rather then days)Some of those scopes look like they come out of the same factory in China that manufactures the horrific "CenterPoint" POS that comes with many Crosman guns- Avoid at all costs, they are junk.

Don’t buy a scope that doesn’t carry a life time warranty with a manufacturer that has been in business for a long time, that is the best advice I can give anyone looking to get a scope ! Expensive doesn’t always give reliability with consistent accuracy , setup is crucial for a stable foundation for the scope, this info is only for beginners, the rest already know what I am saying !
