Nice one! So changing pinion and center diff teeth did change the speed? And did you have to adjust the motor distance...?
@ianbudgetrc25743 жыл бұрын
Thanks brother. Regarding the gearing ratio, I decreased the pinion by 1 tooth count (17t to 16t) while increasing the center diff gear by 2 counts (46t to 48t). Bigger pinion and smaller center gear means faster. Therefore, 17t/46 is faster than 16t/48t. The motor distance did not need to be adjusted that much because the pinion size decreased a little while the spur size increased a bit.

The lower gear ratio of 16t /48t has higher torque though. That's why I could pop wheelies easier than it was on 17t/46t.

What body do you have on there?

So I came upon this video trying to figure out if 1/8 buggy center diffs are all the same. I have a duratrax 835E that is getting hard to find parts for. I bet with some shimming they can be interchanged. What weight oil do you use? I don’t think your going to find any less wear on the cups though. The plastic spur is still transmitting the same power as the other gear just quieter but more susceptible to stripping if not adjusted right.

1 challenge is that they all differ when it comes to the size of the cups. The only way to know is to buy new center diffs and spend more until you get the right part.. Very costly. I do not use center diff oil because heavier oils wear the rear diff faster. Regarding the plastic center diff, it's purpose is primarily to be the first to break and wear out in the whole drive line. When it breaks, I can just replace the spur gear alone with a metal one from the previous center diffs that I broke. And yea, it has to be strictly meshed well.

@@ianbudgetrc2574 it’s still not going to make your center drive cups wear any less.
@ianbudgetrc25742 жыл бұрын
@@treybadd it will at least lengthen the drive cups life, as well as the other parts. It's simple. Plastic wears out faster than metal. Actually now, I've just checked my plastic spur, it's slightly deformed already, following the contour of the pinion gear, but the center diff's drive cups are still intact, no dents. I'm just waiting for this plastic spur to die before I replace it with a metal one.
