UPDATE! Follow-up video: • Part 2 - FAIL! Best Ch...
The bar came down, with me holding it! We were having a competition and after several others had successfully done their chin ups, I hit the ground on my first one. I'm assuming it had loosened up with all the previous people squirming and hanging on it.
--
The boys have been doing some push ups, time to add chin ups to the routine!
We installed this in a stairway that is the maximum width this bar is rated for, 100cm. Can it go the distance? In a word...uhh it doesn't really seem so, the width is too wide and the bar is already bending a bit. It does seem to be decent quality otherwise, and doesn't seem to mar the walls up.
This bar shows up in several Amazon listings, sometimes with different branding (this one says "Antopy" on the listing and middle grip pad), but arrived in generic overseas packaging.

Installing it above the stairway seems like a really bad idea... Even if the bar doesn't slip you could still lose your grip one day or something.

@@teaMmMate I think one important note that I should mention (again, above the stairs isn't the best place, I agree!) is that I/we don't do the wild swinging crossfit type of chinups, we try and do them very controlled and straight up and down. Actually because it is above the stairs, I've noticed I am very controlled and deliberate when doing a chinup to make sure I don't slip or hit anything!

I bought this mainly for the dead hangs for grip strength training and morning stretches. Even though this seems okay safety-wise I still can't trust this thing 100%. When it comes down to skin the cat, I wouldn't dare to chance myself with this and potentially land my head on the floor first. Or you can always put something under where you are training just in case.

I still have a SLIGHT hesitancy when using it, to be honest. But I've added two blocks to the walls to reduce the doorway's width about 3". I think my chinups are also way more controlled and smooth because of this, because I wouldn't trust it for those crazy crossfit-style ones!

Hi, if I cover the side pads with paper towels, will it prevent the doorframe from being marked or damaging the paintwork? Will this attach to the doorframe if the pads are covered in paper towels?

It might work, but I would maybe put it above the trim so the bottom rests on it, or do several tests first before really pulling on it! I can't give you a full green light on that!

So, you get a bar that doesn't screw in or even hook on a door frame and decide to use it at the top of a staircase? Can we get an update if you broke you neck yet? Lol. Also, already bending, just give it up and find another way to do chin-ups!
@AHomeforHosting
@AHomeforHosting 3 жыл бұрын
I've been using it off and on since this video was posted and it's still holding up fine. That being said, I took it down and screwed in some 2x4 blocks (cut nicely with a chamfered edge so they don't look TOO haggard), which reduces the overall width by 3" and got rid of the bending; very solid now. It's nice to see everyone so concerned with me breaking my neck, but I'm wondering what kind of chin-ups everyone does where they're routinely flying off the bar?! haha!

I would think so, especially if the concrete is rough vs. smooth. I added screws into mine after it came down on me though, just forewarning! But with rough concrete with no flex I'd think it'd be more secure.
