Once again, as it says in Proverbs, in the multitude of counselors there is much wisdom. I was just about to spring for the $20+ options for that 2-inch elevation. And here you are telling me that I would be giving money away. Thanks!!! I will be looking for hacks of my own now at home depot and other places.

Kalani, I use round serving trays under my congas thanks to my friend Eric Perez plus can get serving trays at my local Deseret Industries thrift store that will save alot of money so I am impressed with the serving tray idea for it makes my congas sound awesome!

If you want to reduce overtones from congas or any hand drum, glue a piece of the round foam plumbing tubes from the hardware store inside your drum. You can experiment with how much depending on what sound you want.
@joeykarateka2 жыл бұрын
Although this video is about increasing resonance against the floor, you raise another good point. I just switched to synthetic heads and had way too much overtones on my tumba and conga. The sticky felt pads they sell to slide furniture work the best. Self adhering and you can cut to size and shape. Beautiful sound now.

I got round pieces of wood they used for cakes decoration at Ikea. It is like a turntable, where they place cakes to decorate it. I just removed the thing which is attached to the round piece of wood, then both a self adhesive rubber stripe they used around the car's doors. then, stick pieces of it, to lift up the drum a bit over the wood. And I got a good sound and resonance out of my congas now

Pretty cool and affordable. I have played on a variety of surfaces and yes carpet is ‘conga death’ . I currently use LP’s little rubber feet. I can lift the drum about an inch- inch and half off surface which works well in carpeted areas like my Sunday mornings at church. I also can put my second drum up on the feet and hold and tilt main drum with legs. Or tumba and quinto on feet and conga with my legs. These devices mentioned in video also protect bottom of drum and well as the flooring. Dance studio owners don’t like their floors jacked up by crazy drummers.

Those LP feet keep twisting ( and then tipping) when I'm playing, and I can't reposition the drum after they are set up. What am I doing wrong?
@hakiritimhakiritim55074 жыл бұрын
I'll give you a tip. try a drum head with a 10 inch or 12 inch head, the main thing under conga is thin plastic head .. just put it under the conga like a plate. then try again .. better sound

Awesome! I use round wood pieces like the kind sold for congas BUT I buy mine at Home Depot for $5 a piece. They are actually table tops in the lumber section of the hardware store. The same as the kind for $30 or $40 haha but waaay cheaper

I took bucket lids and glued rubber door stops on them. 4 on each one so my congas rest on them evenly. Works good.

What about bass tones? Would the channels in the faux wood slice allow the air vibration to escape?

Yes, the faux wood does seem to improve the sound and as I usually use a stand, I sometimes find when I do play seated the lead conga can slip when tilted so this would help. I wonder if I can get them in the UK...?

Home Depot doesn't have any of those, anymore. No one is sure if they are out of season, or what. Do you have any good ideas for me. Those are awesome. They'll protect wood floors, stop conga slide, and project like crazy.
@LeonDeVoseII4 жыл бұрын
I found them locally at the Home Depot near me. They are made by "Envirotile". Search for rubber pavers or rubber stepping stones or rubber step stones.

Do you seat the congas straight on the floor or are you still using the rubber feet

Thanks for the information. I use serving tray's made out of fiberglass 11 inch size when i play on tile, wood floors, and thin throw rugs. Terrible on med. to thick carpets.

Could you please do a video about this, but with bongos? I'm thinking of getting a set, but I'm usually on the floor, (which is carpeted) and I want to know what the sound would be like.

5:43 hey, in all fairness to that faux parquet tile stuff, it prolly was designed for floor covering and not conga beating. lol
@markkeneson68063 жыл бұрын
That faux wood piece is flexible. I'm no expert on congas, but it seems to me that the ideal surface would be stiff and light, which would probably be some kind of fiberglass or plastic.

Hi I alway use stands , won’t stands be better then on floor , cheers nice to see your technique

Stands are also a great option. This video focuses on options when not using stands.

Some venues like small clubs, some church setups and others do not lend themselves well to a stand. Sometimes you want to be a little more intimate with the sound, and sitting is the best way to accomplish this.
