Wow! I have been a woodworker for more than 60 years, yes really 60 years. These conga's are, without doubt, the best I have ever seen. The entire manufacturing process is beyond excellent!

Thank you Eric for posting this video on Moperc. Off the bat, I'm convinced that once you've invested in their line of drums, that it is a life time of holding on to their product because of the craftsmanship that is meticulously applied with pride and care to each drum. Those stainless steel fittings and hardware has blown me away while other conga drums with chrome plated ones due rust in time. Again Eric thank you.

Excellent video Eric . Thank you MOPERC TEAM for crafting my amazing looking and sounding drums during the pandemic time ! I know it wasn’t easy but you guys managed to get the work done during this tuff time. And from my experience owning this state of the art sounding drums I truly can say THEY ARE WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY ! the quality and sound it’s a total bargain for the money.

Francis made me a q-c-t out of mahogany all from the same tree. (Poncho Sanchez series) And???Sonic Perfection!!! And I think kind of a rare thing. But you would have to ask Francis about that. But I do know these drums make me sound almost as good as you. Ha! Ha! THATS HOW GOOD MOPERC DRUMS ARE!!!

I bought a Q-C-T set about 10 years ago from Michel. I have a good many other drums but nothing comes close. Playing any of my drums is my escape and meditation but perhaps the most surprising thing is the sheer joy I get playing my Mopercs. Simply-they are the BEST.

I’ve been buying MOPERC drums since 2016 and from my experience they’re the best manufactured and sounding drums out there. I’ve had drums made by Michel (the original founder) and Francis, so it’s incredible to see just how the standard has not only been maintained, but raised. Big props to Francis for keeping the tradition alive! 👏🏼

Our wood is stored inside. When we receive the bundle, it's cut outside the same day and leave it in the shop for 2 weeks before starting the process.

@@moperc Oh. That makes more sense. You guys must work really hard to keep that shop clean. I spent some time as a student, making ashikos. Everything was hand sanded and scrapped after glue up. We all wanted a lathe, but the "boss" said he didn't believe in shaping on a lathe. (It was also cheaper for him since student labor was free :).

White Ash is a wonder wood. I started playing congas long before I began to work with ash for axe and tool handles. I like to dry a few pieces of ash on my wood stove because the moist wood just under the bark makes my workshop smell like butter. This place must smell like a bakery.

Couple of surprising things in this video. 4% is incredibly dry! Australian timber merchants kiln down to 7 then back up to between 10 and 13% with steam. Why so dry I wonder, given it's so much lower than ambient? Also cutting curved staves - that's unusual. Conventionally staves are cut straight and bent into shape. Assembly I guess is easier with pre-curved staves, but isnt there going to be a shaggy surface from tapering against the grain?
@moperc Жыл бұрын
Hello! Our slabs are flat cut, our staves are quarter sawn. We don't work against the grain and the result is a better stability than steam bent. But you are right that wood grain changes along the staves, but anyway, we have better results on woodturning shells made with this technique rather than steam bent. 6-8% is the accepted moisture content of kiln dried lumber here in North America. The real stabilization of the cells happens as the lumber is brought down below 8%. We have extreme humidity changes here, if not controlled, it can vary from 30% to 80% in our shop and into most people houses. Opening windows on humid summertime days, heating full blast on winter time. Outside temperature also vary from -40 to +40 Celsius. We do our best to stay around 50% of humidity in the shop. Thanks for watching !

No offense to this company's craftsmanship and skill or this guy's video making ability but it's hilarious watching people explain extremely basic manufacturing techniques that are standards for almost all industries and not particularly special to these people the fact that these people are doing things by hand in an artisan styles with demands of premium not the manufacturing techniques or the materials.

Except this type of video and tour isn’t for people “in the know.” This is to educate the new consumer about the hand-crafted process and its benefits over mass production. Just because it isn’t for you it doesn’t mean it’s invaluable.
