A good gaming motherboard offers more PCIe lanes, multiple fast M.2 slots (PCIe 4.0/5.0), strong VRM cooling for stable CPU performance, plenty of high-speed ports, and an advanced BIOS for easy tweaks and overclocking, all built with quality materials for durability. A bad one limits expansion, has slower data transfer, poor cooling, fewer ports, and basic BIOS, which can bottleneck your system and hinder upgrades. Edit: DDR5 RAM support
@DK55222023 сағат бұрын
As you already said: One reason is features. That may be for example even RAM. Not just how big you can go, but depending on what you look at... even how fast the RAM can go. That is of course nearly never an issue with most used speeds. Or maybe a motherboard supports more M.2, better pcie or whatever. Besides that there is component quality, durability and - of course - aesthetics.

Some mobos can't support types of ram or other stuff. An old PC I have, it's motherboard can only support 1gb of VRAM, so even if I put a 4090 in it, it would still play horrible. Some motherboards also can't support some RAM. A motherboard that uses DDR5 (assuming everything else is the same) would cost more than a DDR4 motherboard. That's just some stuff.

ZACH I HAVE A QUESTION! How do I understand AMD cards? I've only ever used Nvdia cards because I understand their "names" better. Like 4080
@LyingOstrich23 сағат бұрын
For AMD cards, you start with “RX”. However, the RX is sometimes omitted. You can omit the RX when it’s known that you’re talking about AMD. For the card numbering, it works like this: The first number is the card’s series. For example, an RX 7XXX card would be from the 7000 series, and an RX 6XXX card would be from the 6000 series, so on and so forth. The second number designates the card’s performance tier. The lowest number for desktop GPUs is 6 and the highest is 9. The higher, the better. An RX 67XX would thus be more powerful than an RX 66XX card. Thirdly, the last two numbers are zeros. However, the third number may be a 5. If this is the case, it means that card is a refresh. For example, the RX 6750 XT is a refresh of the RX 6700 XT. Lastly, the “XT” is similar to Nvidia’s “Ti”. XT variants generally have more VRAM than their non-XT counterparts. For example, the 6700 (non-XT) has 10 gigs of VRAM, while the faster 6700 XT has 12 gigs. The RX 7900 is unique in that it has an XT variant, as well as an XTX variant. The XTX version has more VRAM than the XT.

@GXLVKZ22 сағат бұрын
A 1660 Super? Damn. Anyways. Here is my recommendations: For the CPU: I'd get the Ryzen 5 5600. This CPU is around $125 and pairs well with the 1660 super. Alternate CPU: I'd get the i3-13100F. This another choice if you like intel better idk. For the RAM: I would get either 16gb (2 x 8gb) or 32gb (2 x 16gb) DDR5 at 6000MT/s (CL30) Now your dad has a fantastic combo of parts. I would get the RX 6700 XT ($350 - $400) Offers 1440p. Alternate GPUs: RTX 4070 ($600) This is expensive but offers DLSS 3 and 1440p / 4K gaming. RX 7800 XT ($500) Still expensive but offers 1080p / 1440p gaming. Note: Prices will vary and you might have to get them at specific stores / retailers. If you want to save money, you could get used parts as well. Hope this helped :)

I’m planning on building my first am5 build and I was wondering how good you thought the ryzen 9 9900x and the 4070 super would pair well or not
@NorthkalmanСағат бұрын
AM5 is still not worth the upgrade when one has already an AM4 in our country Even a Gigabyte B650 costs $180-200. A 2x16gb 6000 mhz costs $170-190 and a 7600 costs $200-210. Performs 95% similar to an AM4 B550 which can be for $80, a 2x16gb 3600mhz for $70 and a 5700x3D for $150
you should really be overhauling your entire system by now

I don't trust online shopping enough to buy technology or expensive things from there, I've had a few bad experiences even with low priced stuff, how does everyone just spends 150 on an online shop and not fear for their lives

If you live near a 👑MicroCenter👑 you can get bundles that have cpu, mobo, and ram. For 300$ you get a 7600x with 16gb ddr5 6000 or for 330$ you get a 9600x with same ram! Remember if you live near one the answer to your question is most likely micro-center!

Hey Zach, I love your content and appreciate all the work you put into your videos! I noticed you often promote AMD, but I just wanted to share how awesome Intel has been for my setup. I’ve been using Intel for years, and their performance and reliability have never let me down. Would love to see more support for Intel, as they continue to innovate and push the boundaries of technology. Thanks!

That’s the coolest story I’ve ever heard in my life! Can you tell it again??? Lol seriously though… you’re clearly a fanboy and are just butthurt to hear people tell the truth that, as of right now, modern Intel CPUs are garbage and AMD is better. Maybe you should be messaging people at Intel asking them to step their CPU game up?
@joshh53520 сағат бұрын
Or you’re just an Intel employee? That is butthurt that your employer sucks…

Hey, I’m just sharing my personal experience and preference for Intel. Everyone has their own opinions, and that’s what makes tech discussions interesting. I’m not here to argue about which brand is better-I’m just supporting what works well for me. Let’s keep it respectful!

my suggestion for the USA for $367: 12100F, H670 PG Riptide (yes, it doesn't have wifi, but there's enough budget left here for a good adapter. picked it over a native wifi motherboard mostly because all of the current picks suck in one way or another), SP Gaming 2x8 3200C16, and an A580 if you can use ethernet, you can upgrade to a 12400F or to an A750; maybe a G.Skill Ripjaws 3600C16 for better RAM OC. of course, this is all bought new and with warranty
