Cool ! the bendy tunnel with the steep uprise out of it, passing under a traintrack, is outside the dutch Specifications for bikepaths, it's over 5% steepness, and the corners are too sharp, but as the traintrack splits the city in north & south, this one of 5 places to pass is the centre one, and requires a momentary speedrush. (and precise steering, working brakes, accellerating at the right moment, so you can get out with minimal sweatgland-activation... ) it's my favourite !

Thanks for the details. Very interesting. It seemed to us to be most un Dutch like. We just put it down to being one of the first underpasses in The Netherlands! D

The main feature of Dordrecht is not a big church but the house where they signed the treaty that created The Netherlands as a state.

It is remarkable the UK still didn't do their sums, every Euro spent on cycle infrastructure comes back as three fold. Be that in health-care, taxes, time, and on less expensive roads on infrastructure.

Its only by enduring the dimness of night on Britains cycling (un)provision can we Brits enjoy the crisp clear mornings of Dutch cycleways,. Once again, the Dutch get it spot on!

Why do all foreigners cycle with saddles far too low? This not just considerably reduces speed but it can permantly damage one's knees too.

Generally so that we can reach the pedals! Our legs tend to be much shorter than Dutch ones. X😊 Don

why are you guys not wearing helmets ?
@OldButElectrified4 жыл бұрын
Look more closely Ali. Those of us who want to wear helmets are wearing them, those of us who don’t aren’t, oh like the vast majority of cyclists in The Netherlands. I get comments asking why we are wearing helmets too.... would you guys just argue amongst yourselves please. Cynth

@@OldButElectrified Im not arguing with anyone and Idk about any ''guys'' arguing. I just asked a question that I didn't know the answer of
@OldButElectrified4 жыл бұрын
Sorry Ali, in that case the answer is: 98% of cyclists in the Netherlands don’t wear helmets (nor Lycra, nor cyclewear of any sort). It’s because they don’t consider themselves as cyclists, just ordinary folk going about their daily business, but on a bike. Most Dutch miles on a bike are on purpose made and very safe cycle tracks where no cars are allowed. Hope this helps. X C

Because...the Netherlands. No reason to wear helmets any more than there is to wear them when walking. [Mind you, I'm one of those who choose not to wear a helmet here in the UK too.]

Brexit certainly won't keep me away! I love my cycling holidays in the Netherlands. I've been to 's-Hertogenbosch, Etten-Leur and Leiden. This year was going to be Utrecht, but that pesky pandemic put pay to that [said he, alliteratively]. Next year, all being well.

Many of us Brits wanted to stay in the EU. I love the netherlands, go there twice per year on my bike, but from Harwich to Hook of Holland ferry, not the Hull one. Actually the Hull ferry looks better than the Stena Line one we use from Harwich!!
