I took the cable car when I visited Arvi. Looking down and seeing kids playing, dogs running, people stepping out of their homes as I glided above them towards the top felt like a dream. I will never forget the experience. When I did reach the top I got out of the cable car and watched it begin its return to the bottom and as I watched I realized I had left my cell phone on it. I notified security and after about 30 minutes the cable car returned wrapped in plastic! it was a $900 phone as most are these days and I did not expect to see it again. I tried to tip them $20 for helping me out but they refused to take it. Great folks out there in Colombia.

Very true about native medellinenses. I left my phone in a cab. I was devastated, gone were my pictures, etc. To my surprise the cab driver found it , he traced me and gave it to me and did not accept money from me

I'm happy to read that you had a great experience with my people in my city. Whenever you come back to Medellin, allow me to show you Parque Arvi from an insiders perspective via barrio Bello Oriente. We locals don't use the cable car or pay entrance, that's what the park want you to do so they're making good money. Via me you can make a real social impact and help the poorest people who live directly underneath Parque Arvi.

Davis is not from Medellin. He's an US expat exploiting Medellin. David lives in a decent barrio called where are more expats in Floresta, that's near Laureles and that's not even close to where we live in barrio Bello Oriente in Comuna Manrique alta. It's a bit weird to hear David speak about the violent past while he wasn't there and he's just thinking from his own perspective, versus how we Paisas actually live. Why not hire a real local who can tell you real stories from a Paisa point of view?

Well the joy's hiking in tropical area's. There will be rain at some point just depends on whether or not it's a drizzle, a light rain, or a down pour. This of course ensures that there will be mud. It was a nice hike and the cable car ride gave a good view of the area. So this was a nice video and David helped to explain, and provide context to what you were seeing.

I was thinking, you said upscale apts., go for about $1000. per month. And he said in his video, he said they went for only $570., tho in a different area. So I'm glad you cleared that up.
@mdenewsreporter Жыл бұрын
Medellin is big and has 16 city parts and 249 barrios. David and the girl only stay in the tourism areas and that's Laureles and Poblado. In these area's the prices are double or tripple and the crime is the highest because all the poor come and rob the rich in their own barrio. You can stay in Medellin already from 100 USD and up per month. Whoever is telling you different is filling up his/her pockets. Medellin is cheap and not expensive.

Maybe I’m a little biased about the name “David”, but he seems like a good-hearted guy! Good protection as an escort, too - just look at those arms, a powerful punch if needed! Of course, the woman with the stick …. Yup, she could probably do some damage too! 😉 That park is a treasure! Without the mud it would be an easier time, but guess it comes with the season. Love the high elevations and lookouts! And that doggie welcoming party …. They always manage to find you, Alina. 😊 The contrast of cable cars and wireless access card readers against the hillside domiciles that may be without water - shows that they are making progress. Seems they need a water supply (tank) at the top of the mountain to gravity feed to the towns below - maybe that is there already. Disparity of technology across the world is a curious thing to me. In the end, sweet woman, I’m glad you are with us; you brighten the world with your video expose’s. Bless you daily!

I would never encourage people to play for a hero in Medellin, because your life can end in a matter of seconds. Medellin has a criminal culture and when you fight back against a robber, the chances of going to the ER just increased with 99.9%. We comply and live another day. Nowadays all houses in the lower estratos in Comuna Manrique have clean drinking water. There are just a handful of finca's that don't have it, because they have different water pipelines and it's possible water comes out yellow due to dirt. That's fine for taking a shower, when you have soap, but you can't use the water to drink, brush your teeth or to cook.

GOOD POINT!!! That's so true. Rich Colombians say about the poor that we are dangerous, so expats and tourists don't spend money on us. I also heard David say that people get robbed and beat up by locals. That's pure propoganda. With other words, don't spend money on others, but on us and that is going to change. Mark my words.

Colombia has a criminal culture. Especially Medellin. Nowadays everyone wants to be Pablo Escobar without saying it out loud. Not for the violence, but pure for the money Pablo made with narco trafficking. I would say no it's not safe, but safer versus 40 years ago.

David said it himself at 12 min and 3 seconds. Always go with somebody from the area (like me), because I live in barrio Bello Oriente in Comuna Manrique in Medellin, and we are directly underneath Parque Arvi and we use 2 trials to go up and down the mountain in less than 60 minutes. I'm not only a reporter (blogger) and a guide, but I've been walking here since 5+ years and I know all the locals visiting Parque Arvi. No need to pay entrance to Parque Arvi, no need to pay the cable car twice and pay a guide one time at the end of the tour (based on tips). Sounds fair?
