Shoutout to 9 for being that willing to switch mindsets when shown they were wrong. Misinformation spreads like wildfire when the way something works doesn't make sense. If you asked somebody if it should be a 50/50 flip, favor one faction, or go in order of the list, of course the lattermost sounds the least likely. It just seems like an interaction that the devs would have put some thought into, so finding out that they really didn't is a surprise.

Why don't you think list order is most likely? Randomness in the mechanics reduces the skillcap, and favouring one faction wouldn't solve the problem with multiple rets. Of the three, list order is the only deterministic solution and gives players consistent information from bodies being available or missing.

@@BeaDSM I'd assume they'd give Necro priority and make Ret unique again, or give a coinflip between Rets. The former would give an evil role priority and clue a Ret of there being a Necromancer, and the latter would stop situations where one Ret doesn't get to play their effectively without Going by pure role list makes situations where one Ret can not use their role, or use it effectively, until the other dies. And that's *really* lame. Sure, you can strategize around how it is now, but that's metagaming strategy and not deduction. Effective, yes, fun? I'd gladly argue no.

@karalyzel3177 the first case mention might work fine, but also means if two people claim ret then you immediately know one is cap, and it seems they want to avoid that. And it's an unnecessary restriction on roles if you just use list priority. As for the second case, you can't use deductive logic to identify player roles if the results of player actions are stochastic. By setting priority based on order in the list, you know that if you are able to use a body, anyone claiming to have done so higher in the list is cap. Yes, being on the list means that a coroner or necromancer is less likely to be able to use a body that they want, but the trade off is they get more information about the actions and roles of other players (whether actually a ret/necro or simply claiming to be one). Making the results of player actions random would, in my view, harm the core mechanic of the game by reducing the amount of information the players are able to gain from their choice of actions.

Some people enjoy arguing for the sake of arguing as they enjoy the act itself. the outcome or the subject does not matter. So having your facts straight is not important as long as you can make it sound believable and drag on/ "win " the argument. But in this case, its probs just a case of The Mandella effect or something similar where he was so sure of himself, while he was actually wrong. Considering he admitted to being wrong, I am inclined to belive he is of the latter.

According to shapeshifter13, BMG Staff, it's NOT based on list order. It's based on a random number assigned to you when the game starts. "Kind of sort of. There is an order that is determined at the start of the game, but it is not list order, hence psuedo random." - Steam forums, "Night priority" "It's psuedo random. Every player is assigned a number at the start of a game(not their lobby position), and that is used as a tie breaker in case of instances where multiple roles of the same priority try to do something and it matters the order it occurs in." - Reddit, "Retri/Necro Body Priority"

Could still be possible that the pseudorandom numbers were themselves generated with one of the main variables being the list order (and/or something else that'd be affected by join order) somehow? Even if it's technically not the correct answer, it's still way too much of a coincidence considering we've already seen this scenario play out multiple times.

I assume it's as simple as everyone is assigned a number when a game starts, why needlessly complicate something? Though when I said "affected by join order" maybe I should've said "correlated to join order", because the exact time of an event (e.g. when someone joins a lobby) is a common seed for pseudorandom number generators, though exactly how it's affected is going to be based on the algorithm itself.

​​@@bt2434 Everyone's an idiot sometimes, because we don't know everything; it's more "how much are you going to double down before you fact check yourself", which can vary based on your level of confidence in the subject. Your confidence and your actual amount of knowledge of a subject don't directly correlate either, since it's hard to judge when you know enough about something. All people make mistakes sometimes, so for minor issues like this it's more reasonable to hold them to the standard of apologising for their mistakes rather than having them not commit the mistake in the first place (which is literally asking for them to be perfect).
