*Beignets are traditionally just the dough and powdered sugar.* But like most of Louisiana cuisine, like the Po Boy Sandwich 🤤, their traditional recipe gets added to. So now, you can find chocolate or different jam/jelly filled Beignets. Definitely gotta try one,... after you've had a Po Boy with a side of Gumbo, Jumbalaya and Crawfish Étouffée of course! lol...

Office Blok Dave trust me. I have been to Cafe Du Monde several times in Louisiana and the beignets plain are more than enough. They do not need a filling lol they are messy enough and average line is about an hour.

We have pretty strict guidelines for determining and quantifying obesity and rates of obesity here in the US. The numbers in a lot of other countries would look similar to the US if they went by our guidelines.

*YES! Georgia Peach Cobbler!* I'm from Georgia and I voucher for this. The only way to explain what Cobbler is It's basic like a pie but better. Instead of putting a bottom or top crust it's basically a batter you put pour onto the cobbler mixture and you bake it. The batter will come to the top as it cooks and make a thin crisp crust on top of it. Where there's a fruit pie, there will be a cobbler of it as well. Peach, blueberry, strawberry, blackberry, cherry, apple, ect ect.

They have this big festival and they have this huge strawberry field. You buy a basket and you fill it with strawberries. My sister does it as a fun thing for her children to do.

Im in Alabama and I am one of the few people who know what a "lane cake" is. I remember old people talking about it and making it in the 1970s and 1980s when I was a kid .It is a very old cake made for special occasions from around the 1900s . Its a recipe probably from the antebellum era . Lane cake was mentioned in the book "To Kill A Mockingbird" the classic book written in the 1930s set in South Alabama. I dont know anyone today especially young people that makes it.

Tbh I'm surprised they didn't have pralines as Louisiana's favorite desert. Cafe du Monde beignets are delicious, but praline shops are all over. They're originally French/Belgian, but in the US we boil cream, butter, vanilla, and brown sugar until it's like a soft fudge. No chocolate like the European version. Then we mix in pecans and drop them on a cold surface to harden. They're soft, super sweet, and lil bit crunchy with the pecans. Oh and sweet potato pies are super popular throughout the south. Do y'all have them in the UK? They're also called yams.

As a Southener that banana pudding in that video is utter heresy. What you saw was bananas, vanilla wafer cookies, and *store bought packaged pudding* thrown together. A real old fashion Southern banana pudding is layer vanilla wafer cookies and bananas (well ripened bananas) starting with the cookies first and you continue to layer them like that until your dish is filled or you run out of the cookies and bananas. Than you make this sauce in a pot on the stove. Than you pour it all over the cookies an bananas. Than you let it chill in the refrigerator until it's cold and the sauce has thickened up.

Whoopie pies have reportedly been made in Maine since 1925. While many states lay claim to the whoopie pie, Maine made it their official dessert in 2010. Hammonton, New Jersey is touted as the blueberry capital of the world, and N.J. as a whole is one of the top 10 producers of blueberries in America. For this reason alone it's only fitting that the blueberry pie should be recognized as N.J.s dessert.

I’m originally from California and it’s not about the donuts. I don’t think I’ve been to any restaurant were a donut is on the menu for dessert. Boysenberry pie or cobbler is my favorite dessert. Pretty much anything with the boysenberries! I live in the Washington DC metro area and I can agree to Baked and Wired & Georgetown cupcake’s....they are the best!

New Jersey doesn't do justice to taffy. As a kid, we used to pull it by hand in the winter and we didn't make little taffy bars. We ate it straight after and loved it. That was real taffy.

Sopapilla is technically just a pastry, but it puffs up while frying, so it's totally hollow. (Beignets are more dough-y) A restaurant near my home in Phoenix serves sopapillas coated with cinnamon and sugar, served with honey and a sweetened cream cheese. So delicious! There's lots of Mormons in Arizona too, and I've seen some strange Jell-O combinations. Adding canned fruit is pretty common. (canned pears while visiting a care home was fine) At a Mormon friend's funeral lunch, I saw a "Jell-O salad" with shredded carrots, chopped nuts, and cottage cheese (something like curds and whey) in green Jell-O. It looked like puke and tasted worse. (I took 1 bite on a dare.) Everything about it was WRONG! I didn't see anyone under 50 take any either, so it's probably just for old people anymore.

If you ever make your way to the Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho) you need to try Wild Mountain Huckleberry Pie! Huckleberries are similar to a blueberry, but pack much more flavor and are slightly more tart. They will give you a purple tongue too as they are full of a purple-blue juice that will stain like a son-of-a-gun! They only grow wild and typically only above 4500 feet above sea-level, so the Rockies are about it for this treat. I've never heard of them being domesticated and are black bear and grizzly bear favorites... I've even picked them on one side of a large patch, working my way around and discovered a bear picking the other side... oops! "Hey there big guy! Here... You pick this patch. I think there's another patch on the other side of the mountain!" :O :)

If you blokes ever get over this way, stop by Lancaster Co. PA where we Dutchies are (we're German heritage btw, calling us Dutch is just bastardized Deutsch). Two items on that list come from here: whoopie pies, which are decidedly never marshmallow btw, and shoofly pie, which is a bit of an acquired taste. Look me up, we'll have a pint, and I know a place where they put custard in their cream puffs and so they sell them by weight because they're so heavy.

beignets are better than they look, very flaky! very light! yet sweet and soft and good, and you get them with a type of chocolate or fruit-sugar sauce dip if you like, typically. Try some if you're ever down! (Cafe Du'monde is the popular coffee shop in New Orleans but you don't have to go there - just anywhere that has them)

i agree im a savory person. i mean ill eat a piece of candy here or there but it doesn't excite me like a piece of fried chicken or a nice piece of bacon with some sunny side up egg to dip :)

I was born and raised and lived in NJ until 2019, in no way is taffy a favorite. It's something you buy in the summer down the shore, I've never known anyone who bought it anywhere else. Cheesecake is far more popular.

For highest calories... in arizona I would guess the bacon-wrapped burrito is up there... simply because it takes a lot of bacon to completely wrap a 2 pound burrito.

Like many of these lists, it's complete cow chips. I live in NC and they said Sweet Potato Pie is what we're known for - it's not, that's Georgia. Ironically by far the most popular pie here is pecan, followed by pumpkin. I got my data from Instacart, the service that delivers groceries that people ACTUALLY BUY, not what people say for some poll.
