Thanks Dr Dray for the great review! I tried numerous chemical sunscreens before giving up on them. My skin is so sensitive that I just can't tolerate even the Japanese and Korean ones, so I appreciate you including mineral options. My new fave by a mile is the Neutrogena mineral tinted in the light shade. I also use Elta MD UV Pure which is @ $30 for 4 ounces. The Australian Gold Fair is great if I am going to be working outside all day - while not as cosmetically elegant as Neutrogena, it wears like iron and is a nice matte option when so many of these tend to be a bit shiny on me. Hope you are having a wonderful day! - Sam

I unfortunately find the Bondi Sands one really greasy and suffocating on my skin. I wear it on my runs. It gives great protection, but I’d like to find one that’s better-formulated for sports activities. That greasy layer on my skin causes me to overheat, and it also beads up and melts sometimes.
@daegrun
@daegrun Жыл бұрын
That happens to me when I’m doing my outdoor job with Bondi Sands body. But since switching to the banana boat one I’ve been happy. No melting and allows me to sweat more than the other did. And I was using the body version of banana boat rather than the face one (cost reason and I have no fragrance or other skin sensitivities). So Maybe the face formulation one is even better.
@sovrappensiero1

@@daegrun oh, this is helpful! So you use the Banana Boat one she mentions in the video? Another Banana Boat one I want to try is the "Light As Air" - it's a little more expensive per-ounce than the Bondi Sands but anything that doesn't melt or sit on my skin like that is worth a little more to me.

I’ve used the Australian gold tinted face sunscreen for a year. For me it behaves like a bb cream. I LOVE it. I actually stopped wearing foundation because this is sufficient for light coverage. It’s moisturizing, not too matte and not too shiny. I can’t recommend it enough. Update! I tried 3 more tinted face sunscreens (all drugstore) this summer for melasma. Hawaiian tropic tinted mineral sunscreen isn’t too shabby! It blends nicely. Beware it is scented but that hasn’t bothered my skin. I tried Eurecin too, the tinted mineral face, and unfortunately it’s not my fav. It’s very orange so it doesn’t work well for pale skin. It also stained the collars of my white clothes, so make sure to have a stain remover handy if you try that one. It didn’t stay smooth on my face like some of the others I’ve tried. We just went to Florida and I used (1) Eurecin spf 50 with hylauronic acid on my body the entire trip. I LOVE IT!!!! Fav body chemical sunscreen this summer. Used (2) la roche-posay spf 100 (found on clearance at target a while back) and loved it too! Even used it on my face and it did not sting or burn at all. The (3) yellow beach neutrogena spf 70 worked well also. Can’t go wrong with any of those 3! I normally only use mineral sunscreen, but decided to give chemical a try on this trip.

My favorite is Australian Gold Tinted as it does blur imperfect skin variations too and stays on when I sweat. I love the MDSolar Sciences mineral cream (new to Costco online) because it has wonderful ingredients. But I cannot wear that when I sweat or work out, it is too slick and seems to make me sweat more. I think it is the silicone slip. However, I enjoy it when not in sports. But it does not blur my skin like the Australian Gold which I have to use mineral water to remove. AG is thick and also moisturizing with shea butter. Good for dry skin!

I love the Laroche-posay anthelios and will continue to buy & use it but I do have to say that I've had the opposite experience w/r/t stinging the eyes- I find that it stings my eyes a lot, so I'd just say be very careful around the eyes. Also the face-only formula in the small shaker bottle doesn't pill over moisturizer but the face & body formula will, so I use it alone, it feels very moisturizing but not greasy. I had a few blistering burns on my face and shoulders (it was the 50s and 60s, so not much protection back then). This year I had 70 actinic keratoses frozen off my legs. I love Eucerine Advanced Hydration 50. It has hyaluronic acid and humectants, is available at CVS, and comes in a large bottle. It feels great on the skin and doesn't pill up with my other skin care products. The only issue is that it leaves a sheen on my skin. I really appreciate the drug store recommendations for people like me who are on a budget but still want a good sunscreen. Really appreciate that they're waterproof as I sweat terribly with the heat and humidity. I'm going to get the La Roche Posay one and see how it holds up in the very high humidity that's inevitably coming. I'm also interested in the Bondi Sands one. They will both be going on my wish list. Thanks, as always, Dr Dray! Happy Wednesday!! Hope you have a peaceful evening. 💖

I love the SunBum tinted mineral! Gives me a nice blurred skin correction. I do a little powder to help set, cream blush, brows and mascara, lip gloss, and out the door!

LOVE the Banana Boat 50 Protection +Vitamins. Thank you, Dr Dray. 👍🏼 The texture is lovely for my combo-skin face & under makeup. Haven’t tested under eyes & on lids yet; Dr Dray has a higher tolerance than me. 😊 Also like the travel size!

Have you seen the article in the Consumer Reports magazine this months about how 53 of the 68 sunscreens tested less than the recommended 30 spf and many of them tested well below the spf they claim? The Australian Gold 50 I love tested at spf 4!! 😩 I’ve already has malignant melanoma once so I have to be able to rely on the sunscreen I use!

I like and use Paula's Choice Mineral SPF 30 moisturizer for normal-oily skin. I have very sensitive combo skin and this works great. No white cast and very light on the skin. Love it.

Dr. Dray: In Canada we can get 0.01% prescription tretinoin. I know that studies have shown 0.025% to be just as effective for signs of aging as higher strengths over the long run but I can’t see anything about 0.01%. Do you think it’s worth using 0.01% for signs of aging even without the data?

These are good sunscreens but still a bit pricey. I wish sunscreen were like toothpaste where you can get it really cheap per ounce and it gets the job done without leaving a white cast. Like is it that hard to ask for?

Right! And talk about the ones like La Roche Posay that cost 25 to 40 dollars and others cost up to 50 dollars. And each tube is small and runs out quickly. I refuse to pay that much. I wish companies made more affordable sunscreen that's nicer to wear

I would like to put in a good word for Sun Bum sunscreens. Sun Bum Mineral Tinted Sunscreen Face Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is the perfect tint for me. I have struck out with so many other sunscreens that I can see myself repurchasing this one for as long as it is made. It is a perfect makeup primer. Makes me look absolutely poreless, plus it plays well with foundation and doesn't irritate my eyes. It is so flatttering, though, that I could probably get by with just it and some blush. Also I wanted a spray sunscreen for my body which would go on clear, so I got the Sun Bum Kids Clear Sunscreen Spray Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Water Resistant (80 minutes).

Love discovering your channel Dr Dray. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer 60 is a GREAT application - and truly sheer - but it is TOTALLY BURNING around the eyes. So much that I returned and got their sport 70 spf. I am looking to get the Japanese or Korean SPFs next to try.
