I have to trick my brain into thinking my meds are food every single day. I get the pill phobia. And I think their interaction is more about the co-dependency that happens in patient treatment. The white, the way they are focused on each other to the exclusion of the environment. Chalk outlines were used to mark the location of victims of violent crimes before photos and videos, but it’s a double on chalk in medications and how the meds make you feel like a barrier is between your senses and the rest of the world. Great reaction, again! 😊

Thanks Archie. Love your reactions. I took it to mean the medications are making them feel dead inside. Chinchilla mentions sertaline which is an antidepressant. And that you get scared to not take the pill even on good days. I get the suicide idea though although i thought maybe they were in white cos they were in a mental hospital. Keep going. It's about depression and the meds. If you take them, you can live life, but feel dead inside(walking chalk outline) If you have a good day, you'll take m just in case. And its scary to quit them, with withdrawal and scared you go back to the hellhole. Altough this one still give me goosebumps after 200+ listening.... how to be me still makes me cry😢 Glad this video got 5 cups, because it complements the feels😂❤

Out of all his collaborations I enjoy @RenMakesMusic and @chincilla_music. By FAR!!! my favorite duo. I see it on the comments a few times already but if you think this is good, "How to be Me" ,the live version, is even better in my personal opinion. Thanks for the great reaction, as always, Archie!! 5 cups for you! My interpretation is a bit different than yours. I think the song is about a battle between mental health struggles, meds and a desire to be free from both. The mental health struggles want to take you down but the meds that promise help make you feel dead (floating in chalk outlines). The line that breaks my heart every time is "in the gallows, balanced on my toes so I can breathe." Anyone that has had an extended season of pain, trauma and uncertainty has probably felt that.

It always spoke to me about the struggle to medicate or no... weighing the erasure of self from the med blur vs the all too painful unmedicated state. BUT, I can totally see your take as well and the symbolism you point out is strong. Thank you for taking it there. Ren makes us think and feel frfr and I can feel both alternatives without it upsetting my mental equilibrium.

I thought it was really interesting what you said about them dying and appearing here. It just reinforces what I always say about us having a personal relationship with music. I don't think it is right to tell people "You don't get what this song was about".. I think we are intended to form our own relationship, and that even if it wasn't what the artist intended, Our own interpretations COUNT. To OURSELVES, and that shouldn't be discounted. Also, I think you had just the right amount of production in this one. I have complained in one of your vids about it being too much added production. This one had just enough that it enhanced it to being special, but not over the top.

Archie, I know your life is extremely busy and you want to do so much. more. Yet I think you would really benefit/enjoy from hearing Ren speak outside of the constraints of music. If you can find the time for yourself to peep the RenMakesStuff channel - he posts some of his Twitch streams (he did 1 for the Slaughter House drop) Some of them run long like my posts😂 but it's crazy how he so ably communicates who he is and his belief systems. At least watch his Life Story Chapters (9 of them) and you will gain really valuable insight into his world and it might just help you navigate your own world .

hm, KZbin is glitching. I wrote a bunch of stuff, hit the Comment button, and it's not showing up. Ah well, I'm too long-winded anyway! (ie, it was unreasonably long lol) I guess at this point I'll say that another interpretation of the concept for the video (you - and many others over the years! - suggested suicide, which is just as good an interpretation) is that the video starts with Ren having taken the meds that turn him into a chalk outline just before it starts. Then when Chinchilla shows up, it's that she's just taken *her* meds too, and has become a chalk outline, existing in the same "dimension" as Ren/having the same inner experience as Ren. Oh, and this one is a 5-cupper across the board, and the kool-aid's spiked with vodka. To me, Chalk Outlines and Sick Boi are the absolute pinnacle of Ren's music (to date). Oh, and "they seem happy about the decision they made, and it sucks" is a really powerful way of framing the situation they're talking about! Like, you can argue whether "happy" is the right word or not, but I 100% *feel* what you're saying here. At least, in the interpretation of the video where they're singing as their chalk outlines after having taken the meds they need in order to get through the day, I guess I'd phrase it as "they know they made the right decision by taking the meds, but man does that suck."
