Mimestream for google workspace main acc with much labels and filters (Because I don’t like the browser interface so much when I only use part of the screen for it, fullscreen is good) and Apple Mail for the other IMAP accounts. Canary as AIO I also try again and again, but just too many bugs

I use gmail as my email provider and client, but when I got a MacBook, I switched to Apple Mail because of the ads they put between your mails

Based on the new Apple email app for iOS 18 can you revisit and give us an update on its functionality and if it now is worth sticking with instead of Gmail.

You shouldn’t turn focused inbox off. You should train it by selecting to always move certain emails to focused if wanted. It will then work better and better with time
@JohnHelmuth_6 ай бұрын
Yeah that’s a good point. I definitely should try that and see if it works better for me.

Great video! But I think you’ve got the "fetch" feature wrong. In mail settings, when you have the "push" option enabled, your mail server will notify the mail app of new emails instantly, allowing for immediate refresh. The only exception is when your device is in battery-saving mode, which temporarily disables this feature, even if "push" is turned on. Keep up the awesome work!

I’m actually shopping for a new email “home” after having used a service not mentioned herein and I was trying to choose between these three. This was the most usable review I’ve seen in years! He did a fantastic job of focusing on what really matters and I think was very fair. I liked & subscribed, because I’m really looking forward to his future content. 😊

You want colors on Apple Mail 2:30 ? You can mark any mail on the desktop - not on iOS - with color, either manually or by filter rule. Or just have conversations displayed in different colors.
@rodhoutx21 күн бұрын
I've used the Apple Mail client on the Mac for ages, even though I don't use it for an actual Apple iCloud account. It's just simple and doesn't keep getting re-written like MS Mail/Outlook. It also has support for very large attachments -- if the attachment is really large it will ask you if you want to send the user a link to download it from iCloud (it's all handled automatically and the attachment expires after a while). Of course you can also use any e-mail provider in the Apple Mail client, not just Apple mail. For the iOS Mail app, Yahoo USED to have a special deal with Apple to do a push notification to alert you, but I think that's gone now. But if you do add a mail account and it gives you the option for "Push", those should be instant notifications.

Did I notice some bias here? Gmail doesn’t even have a desktop client of their own. Apple on iOS DO have the same colors as the Gmail apps have when swiping but that you just bypassed. Not a fair comparison
@happybroski21122 ай бұрын
Regarding specifically the desktop app aspect, Gmail not having an option is negated by the fact that 1) gmail is readily available on all OSes in web form, whereas Apple’s mail is primarily used only on Apple devices. Add the fact that both macOS and Windows provide features that let you turn websites into web apps and allow websites to send notifications, the experience is close enough where it counts. Ofc use whatever works with you (this is coming from an Apple fanboy)
@driver2882 ай бұрын
@@happybroski2112 Usually companies want to control the experience for mail users. If that wasn’t the case Google wouldn’t even have bothered with an iOS app for Gmail. Google generally doesn’t provide ANY desktop apps at all. They think it should all be done in the browser on desktop. This might be an effect of them wanting to drive everyone to the browser for everything to simulate Chromebooks on all computer platforms and save on development cost too. On mobile the Google apps are basically web apps too

Try to run outlook in MacOS. It’s a desaster
@zyepod4 ай бұрын
I use Apple Mail but now Outlook will no longer let Apple Mail connect sighting security reasons but really I think it's because Apple Mail was filtering the adds. So now I'm having to go on-line to get my Outlook mail which always has adds in the in-box and running on the side... So far I haven't found a way around it.

This is a great comparison. I was hoping Apple Mail had improved since the last time I thought about trying it. Unfortunately it's only confirmed what I've known for a long time - Apple mail sucks! If Gmail had a desktop/laptop app I'd go with Gmail but since it doesn't I'll stay with Outlook. Maybe in another 5 years I'll check AM again.

If you're using GMail or Icloud mail, you need to generate an app password for each.

This is a common problem , delete your mail account and log in again using exchange option . Also quit mail and restart before logging in . You may log in outlook in you browser and log off . Haven’t found a reason or logic behind all this but best of luck .
@driver2886 ай бұрын
I prefer the simplicity of Apple mail. I don’t like the inability to use shared mailboxes for work with exchange accounts and the lack of a professional Apple mail service. Here the outlook client shine bright and Gmail is a hot mess as usual. I don’t like gui one bit.

Fetch is automatic, what is this information?
@JohnHelmuth_3 ай бұрын
It is automatic, but it is not instant as emails come through. The shortest time frame is every 15 minutes. When the setting is set to “Automatic” it seems to be roughly every 30 min to an hour for me so I switched it back to 15 minutes to help speed it up.
@themasonera3 ай бұрын
I just sent an email and it came within 2 seconds of the time I received it on Gmail. Think that information is incorrect. It doesn’t make sense to have a automatic timer that’s the same as a time schedule?
@JohnHelmuth_3 ай бұрын
@@themasonera In addition to it coming periodically, every time you open the mail app it will fetch the information. So if you have the mail app closed you will notice you won’t get notified until either 15 minutes passed or if you open the app.

This is the most ridiculous comparison. I've stopped at number 2. Gmail has the worst UX/UI not only in comparison to the other two apps in this video, but to every known app oit their. First 2 points should clearly go to Outlook and 0 for gmail. So funny that because it has themes, you gave it more point that Apple!
