I tried both in my local bike shop, and I much preferred the Domane compared to the Checkpoint. To my surprise the Domane is much more upright and confortable than the Checkpoint. And so as it is also a little bit lighter, my choice is done.

I have that same Checkpoint sitting at the shop right now. She's waiting for a dropper post (since the one I asked them to order with the bike back in Oct. didn't fit). I'm hoping to pick her up by next week. Now the weather in Boise just needs to warm up and stay dry. I've been riding a Marlin 7 (3x9) for the last 3 seasons, primarily on paved roads. I did 1550 mi last season. I'm hoping to hit 2000 mi this year on the Checkpoint.

@@brentprockert5679 This is straight from Brandon. The V3 would be a great choice. They will handle 28-64. Since I’m positive he won’t go smaller than 28, he’ll have all the options available to him as he goes with larger tires. What I like about the 37 is the DT Swiss internals. Wile I’m sure the 37 can handle a larger tire- they were built for aerodynamics and so have only been demonstrated on 28mm as the largest tire size. Hope that helps. Thanks again Brent for your patience and I hope this is helpful.

Hey guys. AWESOME INFO! This is Rick Moses of Dallas. I’m the one that owns the Madone SLR6 & was looking at the Emonda SL 5. You mentioned me just now in this episode. Yes, I went to my local Trek shop and road the Emonda. SL 5. I will be going back to ride the Emonda SL5 then hop right on the Domane SL5 back to back. From there I will make my choice. I about 99% going with the Emonda SL5 but I’m willing to give both bikes a fair chance to go home with me and join the Madone SLR6. I will update you with my choice! I’m deciding between the bikes…. I looked at the Domane today. the grey is spectacular in person. My only hesitation, the tires on the Domane, just wonder if this bike might get a little squirrelly? I currently ride a CP ALR5 2021 edition. Looking for a little more comfort on my 40+ mile rides, which are 90% paved bike paths and Michigan “urban gravel” roads.

Hey Jeff, thank you for taking the time to watch as well as ask your questions. I am coming up on the 500-mile mark on my SL5 Checkpoint, and I couldn't be happier. She is definitely at home on the rougher gravel roads but pedals with ease on any paved surface, i.e., asphalt, concrete, etc. That being said, I will still purchase a Domane this fall for all my predominantly paved adventures with some offroad elements for a more efficient ride. I have several friends that pound the heck out of their Domane and have had no issues with control or handling. I also feel that prudence and common sense help this along. I feel that either bike will leave you satisfied with your needs. However, for the style of riding you will do, the Domane will be the right choice. I hope this answer is helpful to you, Jeff. Thank you again for your support. Please let me know which bike you choose and as always, adventure safely.

Dan, I'm sorry it took me so long to respond to your question. I have been traveling. I appreciate you taking the time to watch our video and ask. That being said, the advantage of a 2x will only be noticed if you're riding with a group of roadies, as it will be a little harder to keep up without that larger front charring. My checkpoint is a 2x but I will be upgrading it to the new SRAM 1x 13 speed. As far as your lower back pain. I would assume it's from the bike not being adjusted to your dimensions. My has been fitted to me, and I do not have the back pain issue. I hope these answers were helpful to you, my friend and again I apologize for the delay. Not at all, this is a great question Carlos. Thank you for asking. The Domane+ AL5 would make a great choice for a gravel bike. Hey Tim, thanks for asking such a great question. My favorite MTB is my Fuel EX. She is like my Tacoma; she goes anywhere, does everything kinda gal. Non-MTB would be a three-way split between the Specialized Diverge, the Salsa Cutthroat, and my beloved Checkpoint. I would not complain if either of the other two took up a permanent residence in my garage. Of course, I could never overlook the Salsa Timberjack, the Surly Krampus, the Specialized Chisel, and the Trek Domane. I hope this answer is helpful, Tim. Thanks again for the question and support.

What about a 50-50 split between road and gravel? Which to get?
@GetOutArizona
@GetOutArizona Жыл бұрын
This is a fantastic question. Thank you for asking. As I own the Checkpoint SL5, I would choose this if I were doing a 50/50 split. Do one set of rims with 43s and another with 28s or 32s. The geometry on the checkpoint is amazing and closely resembles the Domane. The advantage is having a larger tire for any gravel ride. I hope this answer is helpful. Hey HJ, thank you for asking such a great question. This answer is based on my personal ride experience. On the Domane, I feel slightly more upright, and on the Checkpoint, I feel slightly stretched. Neither is a bad experience, and both bikes fit me very well. However, I feel someone with different body proportions would have a different experience, while some may perceive differences at all. I ride on the road with the exception of some hours at the park with my niece. I walked into the shop yesterday here looking to purchase a Domane SLR for $9000, but the shop had Checkpoint SLR Project One bike marked down from $13,200 to $7000. The manager told me he thought it would make a fine road bike, but I do plan to ride in Fort Davis and there are some pretty decent mountains that climb up to 9800 ft. I fear that I have made a mistake, should I return the Checkpoint and pick up the Domane?

That is a tough question, my first. I have hundreds of road miles on my checkpoint SL5 with gravel tires. I'd say if you changed the tire size to 28mm, you should be okay. Thoughts on the Checkpoint SL 5 vs the ALR 5?
@GetOutArizona
@GetOutArizona Жыл бұрын
The major difference will be in ride comfort, with the SL being more comfortable than the ALR. That being said, the ALR is $900 less expensive as well. You're still getting the GRX group, the carbon fork, and the same clearance for your tires. I own the SL5 and love it. However, saving $900 that can go towards pedals, maybe a new helmet or shoes is no joke either.

@@StephenCinAZ Hey Lanovran, thanks for taking the time to watch and ask your question. Both are appreciated. I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. I wanted to be thorough. Yes, they are now shipping with a Blendr computable stem without substitutions. However, the one I own does not have a Blendr-compatible stem; I verified this myself and with Brandon. Ask me why mine has a Praxis crank instead of a GRX??? For some time, bike manufacturers were experiencing a parts shortage. This meant that bikes would ship with mixed-matched component sets and sometimes did not reflect what was advertised on the website. This is why an asterisk states that some parts can change without notice from the manufacturer. According to Trek, this is no longer an issue. Again, thank you for asking your question my friend.
