Is there any connection between tinnitus and stress? Or tinnitus and nutrition? My vegan friend who is a marathon runner has tinnitus and I am wondering whether the stress is depleting his body of nutrients and that this in turn could cause or affect the tinnitus?

I too would like to know. I also am a vegan marathon runner who has tinnitus. Doctors have no idea why, could only give me a useless pamphlet of how to cope with a life with tinnitus.

The cause of tinnitus is unknown, all we can do is cope. I participated in a months long study, found that if I’m doing something and not thinking about tinnitus I don’t notice it so it doesn’t bother me. Plus I use brown noise ( there’s white noise & pink noise too) to go to sleep by. Hope that helps.

I'm not sure about tinnitis specifically, but magnesium is essential for proper ear function. Deficiency can cause muscle aches, and issues sleeping for sure. I do believe stress can also deplete magnesium levels, so as long as you're getting the recommended amount every day, that should help improve ear discomfort... 👍

A couple years ago, I did a whole immune system supplement program, along with eating vegan... often. This also included gym workouts, weights, preceded by 20 minutes of aerobic as a warm up. I worked a job that wasn't familiar to my normal circadian patterns, was often sleep deprived, the job too, was stressful, militaristic routine and obedience expected. They did a physical on me in house, and blood tests indicated a high white count, which seemed to freak them out. I didn't have any injuries, infections, illness, and felt good in spite of the sleep deprivation. My immune program did include 400mg of Beta Glucan, probiotics, L-glutamine, NAC, others. I never once even had a sniffle or sore throat.... and it was a brutal winter, plus, I was around people who had colds. I was dismissed from this job a week after the physical. I miss that fat paycheck, but not the hours and routine... I moved on... I'm curious. Could supplements affect my white count?
@nicolcacola

Thomas Walz Why would a high white count equal dismissal?
@thomaswalz3515
@thomaswalz3515 6 жыл бұрын
Nikki H , good question. I'm not sure if it was the whole reason for dismissal, but it may have contributed to it. It is of no consequence. I didn't like the work, my immediate superior was sarcastically abusive, and would tease me about my diet, relentlessly, amongst many other things. I also worked around a highly carcinogenic, corrosive, AND highly explosive compound. It was a bit unsettling.

Very interesting. Especially given that I have done allergy testing that indicates food allergies, IGG and high IGA antibodies to both Bakers and Brewers Yeast. My doctor tells me that I should be avoiding these foods as consuming them would compromise my immune system. 2 Questions. 1. Do the benefits outweigh the risks of consumption - I feel much better not on these foods - I get serious sinus congestion when consuming. Secondly, my allergy testing did not include Nutritional Yeast. Would it likely cause the same IGA antibody reactions? Finally, Dr. Gregor, what advice would you give for people who have IGA allergies to supposedly healthy foods - Blueberries, Cranberries, Mushrooms, Sesame are also causing an allergic response.

My cold symptoms are way way less when I exercise everyday including during illness. But I cannot cope with stresses. I become hypochondriac when stressed bc I think now i'm gonna get some sort of autoimmune shit because of all that stress and it stresses me out even more. Vicious circle. I often find myself confused after watching dr. Greger's videos, bc I think I am the only one who did not get "so, what's the conclusion? What shall I do now?" Probably, that's just me, bc English is not my native language, so if you got what to do, please do not hesitate to comment down below. but if you too like me did not understand the idea, just follow what the smart guys will write down here.

What this video fails to mention is that clinical studies have shown that molecular structure and size is critical to the biological activity of beta glucans, which means that looking over the clinical research across different brands does not give you the full picture. Comparison studies show that some beta glucans are less effective than others, even though they all may be sourced from yeast (both extraction method and proprietary yeast strains also plays a role). So to estimate the true effect of a beta glucan you need to look at the specific research for each brand. If not you are left with a general conclusion that does not reflect the full immune priming potential of some of the best documented brands.

Because there is a difference in the branching and molecular structure of beta glucans, making a variation in their health effects. Oats do contain beta 1,3/1,4 glucan, whilst yeast typically contains beta 1,3/1,6 glucan. Beta glucans from oats have been shown to have a cholesterol lowering effect when 3 grams a day is taken, which is about 100 grams of the most common type of oat. For the best types of yeast beta glucan to have an immune priming effect you typically need 2 to 2.5 milligrams of beta glucan per kilo of body weight, as shown in some clinical studies, or about 250 milligrams for an adult up to 100 kilos of body weight. You may get some immune benefits from oats, including an improved gut microbiome, but it is mushrooms and yeasts that are best known to show an effect on the immune system in clinical trials. Hope that helps.

I wanted to share a possible problem with niacin or B3 from yeast and other foods. 1 tbsp of Trader Joe's Nutritional Yeast has 15 mg of niacin. However, when combined with other nutritious foods consumed throughout the day, my niacin intake is sometimes over 35 mg per day - and 35 mg/day is the maximum safe intake according to RDA values.The same brand of yeast has 130% of B12 as cyanocobalamin per 1 tsbp. I take 1.5 to 2 teaspoons a day of instead of the full tablespoon to prevent niacin toxicity. Please look up the side effects of too much niacin. It could definitely be something else (the spots you are describing), but I thought I'd share my hunch. Too much of a good thing? -Best.
