A poor diet can destroy healthy skin, but a good diet can bring a flawless complexion right back.
That is the key to Dr. Robynne Chutkan's gut-based approach to treating skin conditions from the inside out. Her method shows that acne, eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis don't have to be treated exclusively with expensive treatments and messy creams.
Dr. Chutkan joins "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll on The Exam Room LIVE with tips and for restoring glowing skin and getting rid of unwanted and embarrassing blemishes.
In this episode:
Foods that help acne
Foods that help eczema
Foods that help rosacea
Foods that help psoriasis
Worst foods for skin health
How does the gut control skin health?
What is a gut-based approach to healthy skin?
And more!
Have a question? Leave it in the comments or chat and we'll answer as many as possible when we open the Doctor's Mailbag during the show.
Dr. Chutkan is a board-certified gastroenterologist, author, long-serving faculty member at Georgetown University Hospital and founder of the Digestive Center for Wellness. She also hosts The Gutbliss Podcast.

My psoriasis has cleared up radically, just remnents remain I'm about 93% wfpb, just take a little fish each day and an occasional egg. Weight down from 92 kg to 77 kg and I feel amazing. The amazing thing is I'm doing half the exercise I were doing at the heavier weight. Have noticed that the small painful pimples on the side of my nose have disappeared as a bonus!

add acne until I switched to a strictly whole food plant based diet. Chocolate is still a trigger but cocoa nibs are fine. I have them daily when I can get my hand on them. Right now, there is a world wide shortage apparently.

Oh dear, I just got some sorbet containing 'natural flavoring' and 'natural coloring' that listed things like beet juice and turmeric among other ingredients like coconut oil and I also have some Doritos sweet chili variety which I eat very sparingly. Glad Dr. Chutkan discussed the oil issue. As for chocolates, even some of the dark chocolates contain dairy as well as sugar so I am careful to stay away from those. I used to have some bad skin rashes and acne during my adolescence and early 20's. Happy to say I don't have this problem now. I now focus on protecting my skin from the sun as well as eating a lot more plants like carrots and sweet potatoes and broccoli with kale.

Sometimes a B12 or vitamin D deficiency can trigger acne. So get your B12, MMA, D, and blood glucose tested. Several endocrine conditions can cause acne in our older years. So you may need to explore that avenue.

Do you eat processed foods or added sugar? Vegan isn't much info on diet tbh

I'm a vegan, off and on WFPB to be honest. I've had Rosacea since I turned 18, and I'm now 31 and it's progressed quite a bit sadly. I've been hoping for so long for us to have more studies or information on how to use diet to help improve Rosacea specifically. I will say when I'm WFPB and avoiding the Rosacea triggers for a month or two, my Rosacea improves insanely! I just need to be better about avoiding vegan restaurant foods so I can fully allow it to heal better. I'm hoping if I eat WFPB for long enough that I'll be able to eat the healthy Rosacea triggers foods again without any issues. Tomatoes, Coffee, Garlic, Cacao and Spicy Peppers are so healthy. I hope I'll be able to eat them again.

Another great episode, thanks! Like very much the remark about selling magic powders as miracle-drinks after a health pep talk- don't trust it :). I just subscribed to her chanel, but can't find the list with chemicals in dermatological products to avoid, or the home made hydration cream based on manuka honey; can someone share that link?
