One minute in and I have to write this....I am 67 and about 50 pounds overweight, have been almost all of my adult life. It's catching up with me. I have cut out almost all sugar, white stuff, and most snacking/processed foods. Looked in the mirror and came to the hard truth that I am a food addict. OK move forward. Six weeks and I have (only) lost five pounds. Want to throw the scale. Mind f*ck begins self sabotage, etc. Again. I watch these videos for motivation and education. "Even if you lose small amounts of weight you gain large health benefits". Just what I need to remember, every day. I will get there. Thanks.

I am in the same boat. 67 years old and overweight. Yesterday I was 'attempting' to mow the lawn and could hardly get back in the house before i collapsed. I am going to start walking the dog every day and see what happens. I have been fasting until noon every day but don't seem to be losing ANY weight. p.s. I noticed you don't have a 'selfie' pic either haha p.s.s. I was convinced my scale was broken so now have 3 broken scales.

I tried not eating food after 4pm daily. It helped a little to control my weight. But when I had a good breakfast and early lunch and no more food after 1pm I really took off my body fat and weight (also low on carbs). Just those 3 hours have really made a difference.

I started doing a 6 hour window on when I can eat. It takes a 'hot moment' to start kicking in, but I am losing weight. The key for me is to cut out sugar. Also eat whole foods - avoid anything that has to have an ingredient list. I'm also using supplements. BTW, when you take the fat out of milk you're leaving behind a lot more sugar. Fat is less of a problem here than sugar is.

I agree with people in the Mediterranean countries eat good, lots of seafood and lots of veg... and definitely some meat... but in my experience there's a very big difference, that you seem to miss. It's fresh. The avocado, olives, the lemon, orange etc has ripened on the tree. An avocado or cherry tomato from my friends garden, makes me feel great. If I buy an avocado (exactly 100g every time!). It comes from Chile or Peru, and makes me sluggish and even give me a rash at times. I think, it's highly important to eat what's local to you, clean and in season! The nutrional value is a game changer! Fish and seafood, the same, we have access to fresh, locally caught fish and shrimps, whatever is in season. Canned fish is mostly used for 'stews'. Fresh or frozen is absolutely preferred.

Dr. Gundy advertises or advises that you should boil the tomatoes quickly, Blanche them then you put them in a bowl of ice water and then you peel off the peel. Then you cut them in half and you remove the seeds. It’s the seeds and the peeled has most of the lectin then the rest of it can be eaten, that’s how my sister-in-law cooks to get rid of the part of the tomato is good for you

Fot the love of God, fasting IS NOT STARVING YOURSELF. We eat breakfast (break - fast) every morning to break the period of time when we’re not eating overnight. Usually fasting just refers to going for a period of time without eating and eating all of your calories in a shorter eating window (as opposed to eating around the clock, which causes a huge number of serious health problems.)

I have struggled for 12 years to lose weight losing and gaining again and again. We ate fairly healthy, but never seemed to find all the pieces. Until 2 months ago. 😊 I met a regenerative medical Dr. I have followed his plan. Which has been pretty easy, intermittent fasting (which I'd been doing for 6 months any way), eating 2 meals per day (been doing that too), cutting out all dairy, starchy vegetables, nuts, beans, pasta rice, potatoes. Allowing 2 equal servings of lean proteins, and vegetables and max 2 servings fresh fruit daily. Snacks:fresh veggies boiled eggs- are my free food. I rarely feel the need to snack. Minimum 64 oz water. I got to pick one day for a cheat meal to eat whatever I wanted no restrictions, just minding not over eating. To date I have lost over 20 lbs! I have had some mental ups and downs and felt I needed inspiration... I found your channel. 😊 I need a bit of guidance on meal prepping to assist making it easy to continue this journey. I'm on Keto, and I have cacao about an hour after I get up, I have a small protein meal between 11:30 am - 3:30 that usually includes eggs, and sometimes pork sausage that I preprepared from duBreton organic ground pork, Miso Salmon, fresh ground or lamb chops from New Zealand or, cod liver in cod liver oil with lemon and either pink Himilayan pink salt or, Baja Sea Salt Gold which has minerals that dissolve kidney stones. I love tuna, sardines canned salmon. At other times will eat arugula, Kale, romaine, red leaf lettuce, and make all my own dressings from Chosen pure avocado oil, destination blend California EVOO from CA and make my own mayo, homemade Caesar from adding Meyer l, garlic, lemon or other Organic lemon and anchovies, arugula, heirloom 🍅 , Kalamata olives with 100% sheep milk Greek Feta in brine with homemade balsamic vinegar dressing with lots of garlic, organic mustard and black pepper... I often ad Keto oils like the unadulterated with seed oils Chosen pure avocado or, and Bullet proof MCT 8 coconut oil... I love grass milk and walk pretty much everywhere and only take public transportation when on a time crunch or truly overloaded with heavy groceries as I am 74 as of today and know it is use or lose it time and I wish to live a long time... I was fortunate enough to be the weird kid in my family that always loved fresh stuff and started to learn to cook for myself at my grandmother's, and my grandfather was a farmer who had a one acre garden with the most wonderful fresh fruits and vegetables and never developed a taste for soft drinks... I love delicious food and love to feed people as well and have friends who love to come eat. I consider myself one of the luckiest people alive and grateful for my knowledge... I love to pass it on when I can find someone who is interested and not too busy working to learn... which so far has been rare, in these days with delivery being faster and easier.

I was never motivated to eliminate sweets and bread when I was younger. Starting at age 73, poor blood results were all the motivation I needed to make big changes-I could see the handwriting on the wall and I really want to live long without real health issues. Fatty liver, sinking eGFR (kidneys), and Haoc of 5.7 (prediabetic) sobered me up fast. 9 months of low-carb, animal based eating has shown improvements but it can be a slow process. I recently added intermittent fasting and I have a new blood draw next week. So we’ll see.

One rule for you. No sugar and cut processed food as much as you can! Try it! Make the effort to make meals, not eat processed crap. Stick to veggies, small amount of protein, and some fruit, salad, nuts and seeds. NO JUNK. And eat filling meals so you don’t snack! And don’t eat things that are loaded with sugar! Sweets, cakes, etc etc. That with 16-8 eating pattern and you WILL lose weight! Try it!

@@gregackerson5957 modern research doesn’t quite show this. There are benefits from nuts and seeds and veggies for gut microbiome. Also, the sugar in fruit is somewhat set-off by the fibre in them and also we can handle some sugar every day as our stomach and guts can turn up to about 35g of sugar a day into fat without sending it to the liver to overload and damage it. But eating processed sugar filled foods does the opposite and overloads the liver. Also the nuts and seeds, fruit and veg gives us loads of minerals and vitamins so from a nutrition standpoint it’s good to eat them. Meat maybe really good for us too but over farmed, non organic meat is crap for us, loaded with antibiotics and pesticides etc. need clean cut organic grass fed meat. All this makes sense right? For thousands of years humans ate mostly meat IF they could get it but also scavenged and ate fruit nuts seeds and veg! It’s our natural diet…. and probably loads of sea food!!

Let’s be clear that starving and fasting are two very different things. Starving is bad because it doesn’t allow you to burn stored fat like fasting does. Starving is eating very few calories which doesn’t give much fuel to burn. Fasting is consuming nothing at all for a given time which lowers your insulin so the body changes to burning stored fat.

That will be a stretch for me to eat a very small lunch with my larger meal for dinner. I have been eating my larger meal for lunch and a light dinner. Here on the Mediterranean, dinner rarely begins before eight in the evening and that is mostly spent socializing when you are not on your own. The actual eating rarely commences before nine and it is never rushed. There is also the issue of alcohol. My village (population: 700) has 23 wine caves. There are many more in nearby villages. I do allow myself 2-3 glasses of red wine a week. Our village meal are resplendent with carafes of water and juice for those who prefer. Fortunately, when I make up my mind, I am halfway there. If you guessed that I am not French by birth, you would be correct. I started out in southern California and moved here in 2007.

For example, my husband loses weight quicker by exercising and sweating a lot, I lose weight quicker by fasting. I think drinking clean water, eating whole foods, moderate exercise, adequate sleep, and reducing stress are the basic principles that benefit everyone, but within that framework, we have to try different things to see what works. Be encouraged --- you can do it!👍👍 (Also on another channel the doctor recommended drinking a cup of green tea with lemon juice and no sweetener 1 hour before going to bed. Not every person needs to “go to the gym “. Your point is movement. Since this discussion is fairly rudimentary, when you (the host) talk about people who have no clue as to where to start, why do you assume that population will “go to the gym”as though that is a necessity. Your point is getting movement, people can get movement in many other ways. Animals don’t go workout at a gym. They simply MOVE. So rather than say “those who haven’t gone to the gym..” as though it’s so bad one doesn’t have a gym membership , you should refer to it as MOVEMENT /ACTIVITY/ WEIGHT BEARING . Walking, jogging, biking, hiking, working , lifting boxes or groceries, in-home stretching, yoga, calisthenics. Many seniors walk the mall doing loops due to weather , walk the beach, take dance lessons, play pickle ball, tennis. We don’t all have to “go to a gym”. And I’m sure Dr Le would agree that being out in nature has a whole other mental benefit. Please don’t make “going to a gym” a prerequisite to good health!

Im also researching the many traditional herbs are great for hormones: maca, ashwaganda, dong quai, etc. and also looking at my gut health! So many systems to care for!!, but hoping over time, by being consistent: daily 10k steps, eating high quality and fermented foods and fats, and balancing my hormones, my weight will return to normal.

Think one of the problems may be, withdrawals from processed foods, sugars, chemicals and whatever else is in the foods that most people have been raised on or eating most of their life. It's like a drug addict trying to just quit cold turkey. There's something going on when trying to lose weight, you are having withdrawals & symptoms of real cravings, and lost of control. Have seen people go through these moments, their demeanor changes, their mean, they want food, just like a heroine addict, but it's Doritos or McDonald's. 😶🧐

Spot on! No one has said this! My sentiment entirely. It’s cravings not hunger when you are someone who eats processed food. One just has to go on a keto diet to understand the difference. I was constantly craving and never satisfied on a so-called normal diet. I got to the stage I hated food due to the weight gain. On keto I lost weight, have no more cravings, (therefore fasting is easy) and I appreciate my food more. You are right high sugar carbs are addictive. I read a great adage once: “you’ll never get enough of what you don’t want” And that’s what it’s like on a processed diet!

Processed foood probably have hidden chemicals to make you hooked hence the addiction so when you quit eating it your gonna go through some withdrawals since your dopamine reward system not getting its usualy dosage. I use to be addicted to Mc Donnalds and had to eat it every day but i been mc McDonald free for over 10 year now!!!! Good by Mc Donnalds I dont eat your heart disease crap.
