Wonderful choices, Nicolette! I had to watch both "La Haine" and "400 Blows" as part of my French class in secondary school, and I found them to be incredibly moving and thought provoking. ❤️🇫🇷

Hey kiddo. I just moved back to the States from Europe. I saw a French film that I forgot the name of. It's a film about the children of immigrants in France. It is unflattering towards the immigrant community and liberals. There is scene where the immigrant children- bullies to their lovely little core- force a child to do 85 push ups. Then they steal his sneakers. And there's an interstitial kind of story about a misplaced poussette on a train and the conductors going through every known language to try to find the owner. Again, it does not paint immigrants in a flattering light; my wife loved it, I was a bit leery, but I've come around since then. It's an important social document. I can't find it anywhere in the States.

can you help me find the name of the movie? i think it's French (but not sure) from the 90s or early 00s .. in which two guys (one of them has no luck in love with his life, because the dwarf cursed him as he spoke) while driving around the country meet a girl on the way and probably both fall in love with her, come to Paris where they visit a night strip club .. I also remember that they fought with each other in front of that girl when she was sitting on the hood of a car it seemed. and at the very end when the credits started they all came somewhere in nature, one of the guys gets out of the car dancing.

I really like "Diabolo menthe" (or in English "Peppermint Soda"). It's a coming-of-age movie about the 14-year-old Anne and her older Sister Frédérique who live in Paris. It follows them through their school year, their first relationships and other important events of a life of a teenager. Great list! I am going to watch the Agnès Varda Documentary. :)

Oh my god I just finished watching L’ascension and oh man that is one of my favorite movies now. It’s basic French so easy to understand and a beautiful plot that almost had me crying tears of joy a few times. Would recommend

I didn't check if it's on Netflix before I made my list >_< I will add a N if I saw it (perhaps omissions). I like "99 Francs", "Plein Soleil" N, "La Piscine" N, "Les Valseuses", "Jean de Florette" (part 1&2) N, "Léon", "Série noire", "Le Nom de la Rose", "Le Pianiste", "La Haine" N & "Amélie", etc.. And some comedies "Les Démons de Jésus", "Les Visiteurs", "Les Bronzés" (part 1&2), "Le Père-noël est une Ordure", "Les Trois Frères", "Le Dîner de cons", "La Chèvre", etc.. And some Belmondo or Louis de Funès movies.. =)
