Alexis Martin it's hypocritical for you to tell white people to get out of their feelings, when obviously you had your own feelings and were inspired to share them.
@chungleandthebims1677 жыл бұрын
Rhyann Original commenter never told white people to get out of their feelings. That's your assumption. In case you didn't know black people hate on black people as well. The point is, said people she refers to are invalidating experiences instead of listening and TRYING to understand. It doesn't mean they always will, but the point is they tried. It's like someone complaining about a headache and you saying "it's not that bad" when you aren't experiencing it firsthand. The key is to listen and attempt to understand.

If there is an entire group that doesn't feel safe around police - that's an national security issue. Specific cases of abuse, neglect, crime of behalf of police needs to be gathered and then dealt with nationally. If somebody gets killed I cry because I feel sorry for them. I don't care if they are black or white - if they are killed without reason - that is a HEINOUS CRIME! CRIME cannot be ignored. If national institution, such as police, is corrupt to the point where it becomes dysfunctional or malfunctioning - it is time to do a reform. We need to create a system of checks that would balance the unrestrained power of the police. What kind of checks? Think about it. I don't want innocent people to be just killed in this country. You might relate to them as a "black person", but I relate to them as a plain human being who knows that everyone wants to live just as much as I do. I am concerned because today I became a part of an American society and I do care for American people as a citizen of the US today.

I'm blonde blue eyes white girl, my BFF is from Domenica, she's a deep black skin white very dark eyes. When we met we instantly become best friends. We worked together for couple years part time working for promo companies doing jobs like sporting events, beer events, golf tournaments, party events, business catering food events, street teams for gyms, club/bar events, casino girls, the list goes on and on. We worked so well together our regular companies requested us always to work together. I've worked internationally for many years prior to meeting my best friend so I know all about experiencing racism and being the only person in the room of my race. I've been asked to leave shopping stores and denied to sit and eat at trendy busy restaurants. So I know what it feels like to be physically pushed down when walking on the street minding my own business. I will say this, when my BFF and I worked together I was blown away by the racism in our home country, I never would have ever in million years though USA could be still like this!! We spoke very openly about our disgust for how she was treated by many. She never understood why I stood up and stood my ground for her on the daily basis when she was so good at ignoring and not letting that horrible crap bother her. Until I told her what I went through for years on end in remote areas of Asia. She never tried to stop me again once she understood I was not only standing my ground for her and because I felt it was the right thing to do, but she understood I was doing it for her, me and everyone else because this behavior effects us all alike. The hair thing I laughed because I remember our talk about my questions about how she can change it so easily. I just didn't know how it was possible because I've never been given that option when going into get my hair done. So I didn't know the process, all I knew was wow I'm jealous and why can't I change my look so drastically and have it turn out so good and gorgeous every time!! Learning and respecting each other being open to talk and ask questions without fear of OMG do I sound racist??? oh just in case I shouldn't talk or ask anything. How else are diferent people supposed to learn from each other if we can't openly talk and ask questions that should be normal life!! We all breathe the same air, everyone needs to get over themselves. If we all looked the same the world would be horrible place.

This is where we dispel ignorance, develop empathy and create honest conversations. This is why we need to have friendships from different backgrounds to break our bubble of what reality means, this is how it no longer becomes a nameless face but someone you LOVE and CARE about that is going through racism and prejudice. Honest conversation, without fear of repercussion and judgement is where we can finally break down barriers.

She is literally the most loved and popular person, no one cares about her skin color as she is so much more than a black person and I think the main reason everyone loves her is because she is so confident and different. And being confident has came to her advantage as she's realized there are other people from different races who like the same music, like the same food, same fashion sense etc. Honestly just embrace yourself but don't change who you are. When I was a kid my dad took me and my sister and cousins to the park to play cricket and on the walk home he was carrying the bat and stumps and he got stopped and questioned by police about what he was doing/why he was carrying a "weapon" and all this shit. I was about 6 and I just remember crying my eyes out asking my dad "why are they doing this?" It was so clear we had just come from the park which was still in sight from where we were, he was with 5 kids all aged 3-8 and still he was suspicious to them. Eventually the cops came up with their excuse that they had stopped him because his name was "of interest" which was just stupid since they didn't know his name when they stopped us and my dad has never been in trouble with the police in his life. Madness. Six years old and realising I'm gonna have to deal with this shit my whole life because I'm black and therefore "suspicious".

A few months ago my fiance called me panicked and I asked him what was wrong, he said he was driving and all of a sudden four cop cars began tailing him when they put their sirens on. They approached his vehicle with guns in hand and ripped him out of the vehicle before he could even take his seatbelt off. They threw him into the concrete and all of them put their guns on him. Turns out, once the confusion was figured out, that someone had stolen a truck identical to his and switched license plates so he was driving around with what looked like a stolen vehicle because of the plates. We're white, and now equally terrified of cops using unnecessary force. He could have been shot and killed for absolutely nothing. So I understand people of colour being afraid, but I stand in solidarity alongside you. I know what happened to him wasn't because of his colour - but it still happened and was still terrifying nonetheless. Police using unnecessary force is utter bullshit.
@endofanage2237 жыл бұрын
Kristina Vee less likely to happen to someone white but it does on occasion. But for someone black it is more terrifying because white cops tend to lie and use force on any black person that results in the person being killed. Police have always been this way towards black and brown people. White people are just getting a piece of the big problem.

We should not be scared of cops. Fear of police breeds resistance against police, and that is why cops are being pushed to use force. The police are every day people who have families. They want to be alive at the end of the day just like you. They are risking their lives to go after someone who stole a vehicle, who could quite possibly have a gun. It’s really shitty that your family got caught up in that mess, but these cops are doing their job and keeping criminals off the streets.

I didn't realize race was such a big issue until I heard Americans talk about it. As an European our definition of racism crosses all races, which I understand is very different from the perspective of America, where black people have been oppressed by law, and therefore any other race can't feel oppressed by the way off racism . Which I guess would be disclosed as singular racism....But I find that people believe race is actually a thing, and don't realize it's a social pyramid, and also the fact that a lot of Americans don't understand that outside America, we look at racism very differently, that for example a black person making negative remarks about the skin-color of a white person, would be considered racism here. And I hate to say this, but I do see a lot of double-standards in race, which makes me think that if there would be equality in that matter in the US, it could turn to oppression of white, because young people are taught to hate white, or not socialize with white, and meanwhile it seems that it's okey that Asians are suppressed and made fun of by both black and white people. (I hope no one found this offensive, I just wanted to share from a different perspective. I hope the race-issue will get better by teaching children love and self-love.
@NiaKF7 жыл бұрын
Tinkerbells' pixie dust I'm European ( British ) and race is still "such a big issue" and I'm sure it always will be. Being European so I'm assuming you're white (correct me if I'm wrong) it's probably hard for you to empathise with but it's very much still there. And in regards to "double standards" Most black kids aren't taught to be racist to white people, but feelings of anger towards them grow as a response to what they feel in society. Blacks race issues I don't believe are comparable to any other race as it's completely different because of the societal structures in place to mentally keep black people as a whole in a worse of position than whites.

I'm half Japanese and half white, growing up I wasn't accepted by white people or asians. It is still a problem today. I know this is a video acknowledging only whites and blacks but I just wanted to put my two cents in here for those of us who are mixed with two very different races.

I feel your pain. My guidance counselor is Japanese, and she came to Canada in the 70s. She told me once how kids would follow her home from school, throwing stones at her the whole way. I live in community where the white population is low(I'm white obviously if u look at my profile pic. I mean how much more basic could it get😂) and I'm thankful I get to grow up in a community where I don't judge people on the color of there skin whether it's black brown yellow or white but by there personalities and souls. School districts around me have a much higher white population and I could switch if I wanted to but I make the decision to stay because I want to be at a place where I learn about different cultures and why and how people do things differently. People think that rainbows in the sky's are pretty but not everyone thinks the rainbow of people is and it's sad. I can't wait till the day comes when the population can be identified as one word(human) instead of thousands of different labels. I may not agree with what everyone has to say or do or what they believe in but I will always give them the respect and kindness they deserve because they are a person just like me and have no lesser value.

I agree. Some latinos, having some European ancestry, can pass, which helps in assimilating, which helps in distancing themselves. I'm half Puerto Rican and half black- I'm lightskinned. But even though I am hispanic, I've had other latino people use my blackness as a way to invalidate me and to denigrate me...people feel that, in no concrete way, the black struggle is worse than the Latino struggle here in America and they use that. Even though it's not necessarily true- the struggle is just different...but also, very similar.

Ryn sullivan *"As a white girl I really can't relate..."* you answered your own question. You can't relate because you're white, and you don't have to relate. Just listen and respect her experiences. Too many invalidate the experiences of black people just because "Well, I'VE never seen/heard that so.." which is stupid. This is unreal. I'm not American, and I can say that this is mostly an American problem. I'm from Scandinavia, Denmark. Everyone, no matter how you look, are raised in the same community. There's no black ghetto's. There's no black gangsta way of speaking. The N word is only known is Scandinavia, because of American movies of television in general. Scandinavia doesn't have no history of slavery either, and we weren't the ones taking over American in the 1500's, so basically what I am trying to say, is that America as far behind, considering racism. The fact that it's normal scares me. In Scandinavia, we consider racism as a mental issue. We know that the word "race" shouldn't even exist, and that it's grammatically wrong referring to anyone, as if they were another race, since it's been scientifically proven, that no matter how you look, or how your skin tone is, everyone is a 100% genetically the same. That's a fact. The only thing that separates us as a people, is racism, which is made up as well, but whenever you refer to yourself as either black or white, you are basically not really stopping racism at all. I have never had the need, to say "a black person" Or "a white person". Why should I? Peace out Americans.
@jennab18097 жыл бұрын

this is very misleading... I'm of african decent born and raised in sweden to parents that have been citizen since highschool/college age and saying racism isn't an issue because race is made up is very uneducated. before we knew race was made up racism existed and it definitely still does in scandinavia but I agree it is nothing like in America they do have a huge problem with this. In scandinavia it is rather a anyone that isn't ethnically scandinavian is more violent, less educated, backwards, scary etc. This makes it more difficult to get a job which is the place this racism is mostly seen, the workplace. In certain cases it does affect how the justice system and cops treat non-whites. I think a big problem we have here is that we think that as soon as we knew races and darwinism and all of that wasn't applicable to humans we thought nobody will treat anybody different because of how they look but unfortunately that leaves scandinavia with an issue nobody wants to deal with and it affects most non-white people and it will never be solved. Btw there is a part of swedish history where slaves were bought to an island named St. Martens and I wouldn't be surprised if there is a little bit of slavery in danish history too. Btw I don't know if you heard about this but we had nazis marching here a couple of weeks ago. I know it might seem like I don't speak swedish because of my comment but I want anyone who reads this to understand. Det är MYCKET bättre i norden men inte alls så bra som man tror särskilt i dessa tider där det nästan känns som att hela världen börjar gå bakåt. (btw I probably won't understand if you would respond in danish)

I feel like the white girl didn't get to ask the black girl questions. I think it was a great video. But it needed to be more biased. It was basically the black girl asking questions and talking about her experiences (not a bad thing) but I would have loved the white girl to tell hers whether they be good or bad experiences. But good start

Bianca Taylor I think it's in part because the video might've been longer than intended. Also, they're best friends. Im sure they've talked about a ton of things already off camera. Lol

I feel like the white girl (wish ik her name) did share her experiences when it related to the subjects but overall she said she didn't experience most of what the black girl experiences
