Fun Fact: This finger gun battle wasn't just a spur of the moment reference to the Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, et all show "Spaced." During the final stretch of this episode's production, the lead writers Nick and Pierre had to start working on episode 5 and they wanted a big VFX heavy finale, so the production had to be low budget for the action scenes in episode 4. Wanting a big ending to episode 4 as well, the team had to brainstorm a budget friendly action sequence. Writer John Bernhelm came up with a solution: At the very beginning of Episode One, a random asshole pops up and does the finger guns and gets shot or whatever, and then he’s like uuugghh. I originally pitched it kind of as a callback to [that], but also this idea that on Helios, they’re a company that makes guns but they don’t deal with the danger every day. For them it’s all a joke, so they kind of play at being a Vault Hunter. After I pitched that, everyone was like “Oh, it’s like that episode from Spaced.” I had not seen that episode from Spaced. I went to KZbin and it was exactly what I was thinking of. It’s been done. [But] everyone was like “Yeah, it’s a throwback to Spaced, people will love that!”

This is evident because he has his mask from after the end of it and Nakayama was the one that made Holo-Jack before he was kicked out of Hyperion and we find him in one of the dlcs in BL2. As someone who didn't get into this series but heard a few things about this particular game, I'm having a blast watching them play it. As for everyone saying Jack is an irredeemable villain, if this is your only exposure to him then he doesn't seem so bad, and I think a lot of the decisions Matt is making are fair for not knowing the previous games. Sure a lot of references are lost in transit but why would these characters have a detailed knowledge of the events of the previous game? I don't know I haven't played them, and I know how frustrating it is to watch the best friends bumble their way around a game or IP that you love, I just think more of their decisions are justifiable than not. Except the space cowboy thing, c'mon it's made pretty obvious even here that catch a ride is scooters thing.

After finishing watching this episode, i will say: Matt is making the most evil of decisions and i absolutely love it! Most Let's Players would be moral and take the high ground but, I appreciate when someone decides to be a bit evil in their playthrough! It's quite refreshing! I mainly say that because i've seen a few other playthroughs of this, and most others took the moral high ground, but, this one feels a bit more special because they did not.... they simply went with what they wanted, and i can appreciate that.
