I agree with others that Superfruit's Defying Gravity is a MUST SEE! Mitch is amazing when he does these songs. He shows so many emotions. I would love to see them in a Broadway Show! The three of them were born to perform.

All three of them have said that "adult beverages" were involved in this one. SuperFruit was active during the years when Scott and Mitch were living together. Kirstin is their oldest and closest friend. As far as I can tell, it happened like this: One day Scott and Mitch invited Kirstin over for the evening, just three old friends relaxing together after work. Naturally, that meant starting the evening with a few drinks. And equally naturally, given who these particular old friends are, relaxation eventually turned into singing. Mitch and Scott had anticipated this, so the studio was ready for them to spend the rest of the evening there (so as not to disturb the neighbors); they even had someone there to film them. And, of course, since this was still about relaxing and having some fun together, they drank cocktails between takes, thus proving that, while alcohol affects their judgment just as much as it does anyone else's, it doesn't do a darn thing to their voices. The blonde wig appears in so many SuperFruit videos that she practically qualifies as a character in her own right. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm seriously impressed that Mitch managed to recover his composure after only two lines. In the blooper reel, they're playing a game they invented in high school; I'm told that most choir geeks invent the same game, or something very similar. The goal is to sing as badly as possible, for as long as possible, without bursting into laughter. In this instance, Kirstin lost when she dissolved into laughter. Then Mitch saw that Scott was on a roll, so he graciously conceded and let Scott have the floor. And a good time was had by all, including us.

My sisters and I, who all sing, used to play the same game, only we would sing like we were drunk. It was very hard not to laugh!

Mitch in all the Pentatonix/Superfruit/Messer songs acts the words, not just sings the words. We also see this from Kirstie and Scott, their musical theatre background shows in this. You REALLY need to watcch SuperFruit's cover of Defying Gravity.
@terriepurkey7085 ай бұрын
Definitely Defying Gravity as a follow up. Scott asked Mitch to sing it with/for him for his birthday cuz he was sick and couldn't go to the actual play. Mitch is ....... other worldly!

Superfruit is like a gift that keeps on giving once you go down that rabbit hole. Begun when the guys were roomies as a vlog channel, they played games and cut up and did parodies, but sometimes they would sing, and there is something incredibly special about just those two voices together. They did medleys, my favorites are the Rihanna Anti Medley, and the Empire medley, and spoofs like “Hip Hop Goes Broadway” and covers, like “Happy Little Pill” and “The Promise,” then the whole Superfruit experience culminates in a full EP of original music. Every song on it should have been a huge hit, and they did full fledged music videos for every song (two videos for one of them). They actually took it on tour, and were a huge draw for Pride, since they are both out and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. I miss Superfruit.

YES!! Scott was wonderful in that too. But Mitch was just as good as many of the awesome Broadway stars who took on the role of Elphaba.

Great reaction. Glad you enjoyed it. You should check out "The Wizard of Aaahs", with Todrick Hall. It has all of PTC in it and is incredible. It's a retelling of The Wizard of Oz.

One of the joys for me in discovering Superfruit is the realization that it allows us this unfiltered look behind the scenes at who these incredibly talented artists are as every day people. It clearly shows that they like to have fun and definitely don't take themselves too seriously. It is a rare gift and I truly miss the duo in all its many incarnations - from silly to serious to professional. The PTX Vlogs are another incredible peek behind the curtain as the group is on tour. Thanks for the great reaction!

Now you understand why Mitch was laughing when the paper "snow" was thrown onto him. There is almost always bloopers after the "Subscribe" screen. The room is actually a spare bedroom in Mitch and Scott's apartment, they set it up to record their SuperFruit videos, which why there is all the sound and video equipment. As others have said, they were playing around with this soundtrack, and spur of the moment called one of their cameramen, and said "get over here now", and brilliance and hilarity ensued. I know others have suggested this, but I have to explain all this so you understand, On there Scott talked Mitch into doing his favorite song from his favorite Broadway musical, the Play is called Wicked, the song is Defying Gravity. The play is the Wizard of Oz told from the perspective of the witches. At least that is what I read on an ad for the play, I don’t know for sure if it’s 100% correct. In this song one witch Elphaba (strange name I know) is arguing with Glenda about learning how to be the first witch to fly on a broom. (the name Defying Gravity makes sense now). You kind of need to understand all of this to not only understand the song, but their "costumes". This song will give you an idea just how high Mitch can go, but I feel he can still go higher. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJWxhJxmbLlofbM

Always love watching this one! Yes, it was recorded in a studio, Endless Noise in LA, where they (both PTX and Superfruit) also recorded most of their early "Evolution of..." videos, as well as several other Superfruit fun music videos (La La Land Medley, Defying Gravity, Hip Hop Goes Broadway 1 & 2, Pop goes Broadway, etc). And they have admitted that there were adult beverages consumed before and during this recording. But they still sound amazing!

Superfruit is packed with so many wonderful pieces....both of Scott and Mitch alone and many pieces with friends: Rise, Defying Gravity, Guy EXE., Broadway Goes Hip Hop, Empire Medley, Happy Little Pill....and then there's the albums: Future Friends 1 & 2. Scott and Mitch have a special blend when it comes to harmonizing together. It's awesome to listen to.

There's a serious version of Let it Go on either their first or second Christmas album that is fantastic. Mitch and Kirstie take turns on the lead and sometimes it's difficult telling which one is singing. The background vocals are perfect. THAT version is the best ever.

i understand alcohol was involved in this video. most superfruit videos have bloopers after the word 'subscribe' so don't miss them. pentatonix is g rated, superfruit is pg and so so fun. scott and mitch were both single and roomates so it was easy for them to make goofy videos. their chemistry is undeniable. don't miss mitch rapping 'feelin' myself', 'hip hop goes broadway' 1 and 2, and the empire medley.

As I'm sure others have mentioned, we can neither confirm nor deny that some adult (alcoholic) beverages may or may not have been imbibed either before, during or after the filming of this event (they were, they did, and the bloopers confirm it!). Even though it's obvious that they weren't taking themselves seriously, Mitch just can't help but put himself so much into the music that he sings it all completely seriously - even with the "snowflakes" coming at him, he only breaks character once for a short time, but quickly recovers and manages to finish the song in character! And wouldn't Kirstin (and Mitch!) make a great Disney princess? The off-key singing at the end of the bloopers is a game the Trio used to play in high school - whoever broke up first lost the round, and I'm pretty sure Kirstin lost this one! BTW - the blonde wig makes a cameo appearance in Superfruit's Defying Gravity - and Mitch will absolutely blow you away!

Super fruit, both Micth and Scott are great in it, and also have fun, is less serious than Ptx, but still they sing great, what they did at the end is a game between them who sings worst,

Re Kirstin off-pitch?- could be. They are just fooling around, and may have had a couple of drinks, On the other hand, she's displaying her amazing vibrato control in a couple of places in this. Re arrangements etc. - you may not know, but Scott this year won an Emmy (along with a couple of a capella colleagues, Pentatonix arranger Ben Bram and A Capella Academy group director Shams Ahmed) for Outstanding Music Direction for "Ragged Old Flag," performed for the Super Bowl LVII 2023 by the America Youth Choir, backing Johnny Cash.

Fun reaction! So, what you have to know is that Scott and Mitch first met when they were 10 and 9, respectively, in a local kids theater production of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory. Scott was Charlie and Mitch was Mike TV - can't you just see it? Mitch and Kirstie met in another local production, and the three sang together as a trio when they were in high school. So they have been singing and acting goofy together for MANY years. The three of them did another fun video like this one as a redo of La La Land. Superfruit often do funny videos, but also some really good music videos. For serious music videos, check out SF Beyonce Medley and SF Empire Medley. For funny SF videos, check out Ghost Hunting or 99 Ways to Ditch Your Date. They also have a few really wonderful videos with other singers, such as SF Rise (Katie Perry cover), and SF Stay with Me, sung with Rozzi Crane. Superfruit put out 2 EPs and did a couple short tours between PTX tours - you know, when they were bored. Enjoy!

SuperFruit isn't exactly a "group"; it's a KZbin channel. Except for Matt, every member of #Pentatonix has a personal channel where they publish their individual work. You can find these channels here: Kirstin: youtube.com/@KirstinMaldonadoOfficial Scott: youtube.com/@scotthoying Mitch: youtube.com/@MesserWeb Kevin: youtube.com/@kolusola Avi: youtube.com/@AviKaplanMusic SuperFruit: youtube.com/@sup3rfruit #SuperFruit deserves a bit more explanation. When Mitch and Scott were living together they used SuperFruit as a weekly vlog. They also put out two albums named "Future Friends" (1 and 2, respectively) and posted the official videos to SuperFruit. Almost everything on SuperFruit is funny - the two exceptions are a cover of Katy Perry's "Rise" that they performed with three friends (all part of the LGBTQ+ community), in response to the Pulse massacre in 2016, and "The Promise," from February 14, 2019; it was the last thing they posted to SuperFruit. Except for official videos, if it's on SuperFruit and it's funny, stick around past the obvious end of the video for the blooper reel. Fan favorites include "Defying Gravity," "FROZEN MEDLEY (feat. Kirstie Maldonado)," and "GUY.EXE" (one of those official videos).

Great reaction. The question “ can they hit a bad note?” Is answered YES, but only intentionally in their very rare and random bad singing displays. For SuperFruit. Defying Gravity is a must do. Guy.exe is a hilarious video and the song is quite good Must do Hip Hop Meets Broadway 1 and 2 And they have bloopers. I laugh until I cry on the bloopers and their reimagining of classic hip hop into show tunes is impressive. Feeling Myself is also amazing. The one where Mitch has Scott shave his head because he has dyed it beyond saving help explain his bald videos ( Jolene with Dolly Parton, their 3rd Grammy and Perfume Medley come to mind)

For their cover of wicked Idina Menzel had step aside. The story is that Scott wanted to go to Wicked but or had tickets to Wicked but then he got sick and couldn't go. They also have a sketch Melody from La La Land. Superfruit hip hop goes to Broadway part 1 and 2 each one with bloopers is really really good and only takes about 10 minutes. Superfruit guy.exe is also another side of them. I don't know if you've heard of Todrick Hall but he went to high school with them, a few years ahead of them. He's a big KZbinr and they did a video with Todrick called Black and White. Then there's the Wizard of Ahhs in which the group Pentatonix is in with todrick. Todrick is Head Over Heels Gaga for The Wizard of Oz. First time on your channel and I subscribe for more Pentatonix and if you can add in the other acapella groups home free voice play and the bass gang that would be really cool. The fans of all three are very loyal and will follow wherever a reactor is reacting and going down the rabbit hole of Pentatonix
