Great video, the trend of tiny keyboards is really strange to me considering the whole point of them is to save space but most people put tiny keyboards on massive desks. Either way whatever you prefer it doesn't really matter, but there should be the option of both for everything. For me, Corsair K100 is like 80% perfect but it only has speed switches so it needs browns. K95 Platinum XT is perfect but doesn't have the new features of the K100

I agree with what you said about the K100, even though Cherry Silver Speeds have been very good to me throughout the years, however, in regards to the desk space and smaller keyboards, the main reason for that is the *wide* amount of space you would have for your mouse. It's especially useful for gamers who damn-near swing their mouse all around the desk when playing FPSs and things like that.

FINALLY Every time I ask someone for suggestions, they just go "buy a TKL instead"
@holongwong64792 жыл бұрын
if TKL is good for someone, I will suggest they try 75%. If you want full size, I recommand old keyboard instead of 2022 keyboards, nothing wrong with them, just many old option still there and basically makes no difference. Some brands rarely has new model come out or still remain those models even newer one being launched such as Filco. They always great.
@apem2kilo8792 жыл бұрын
That's what I used to see in some techies forum. In one of the Discord server of a local tech reviewers I join for example, many have asked about the full size recommendation but sadly they rarely give one, either because they don't know about recommended full-sized boards even though there's a lot of them ranging from cheap but good quality OEM ones to the ones from expensive big brand or because they simply prefer smaller form factor with separate numpad because they don't use numpad often, only for work so it's better to have a separate one. And yeaa they always justify the reason of why smaller form factor will always be better which might not be everyone's favourite. This kind of treatment often make someone who asked for recommendation to flee from the forum without even saying thank you as far as I've seen, probably because they feel asking for those people are useless at the end (I guess?)
@HappyBeezerStudios2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I really feel like the odd one, because I have requirements that go against what people say. I prefer cabled headphones for the simplicity and "it just works" usability, I still have my DVD drive in use on a frequent basis, I use my numpad almost on a daily basis, and I have big hands, so all these tiny sub 70g mice are just uncomfortable to use.

Reaching over to the right end of the keyboard gets annoying, and the right hand stays on the mouse to move the selection to different cells. Tempted by some of these boards, but as someone who spends an ungodly amount of time in front of a computer for work, I really wish someone would make a mechanical version of the Microsoft Sculpt Ergo. There are some options, but they’re either riddled with gimmicks, have an exorbitant price tag near $400+, or don’t have a logical form factor for a productivity setup. After using something as comfortable as the Sculpt Ergo with a tented and angled board, you really feel the strain on your wrists and forearms from standard keyboards. Same goes for their Sculpt Ergo mouse (though the wireless tech is absolute trash if not in direct line of sight to the receiver). Alice/Arisu boards get close, but don’t achieve the same level of usability and comfort.

I would love to have one with a detachable numpad. I do use it to input long numbers in excel and bind voice channels to it if a game has more multiple. And for those having the numpad on the left side would be super practical. But at that point I wouldn't mind having a seperate numpad. I also don't like if the function key block is tinkered with, it really messes with touch typing when keys aren't where they are supposed to be. And for a maximum typing and gaming solution I would probably use two keyboards. One with linear switches for gaming, and one with tactile switches for typing. Both obviously the same brand and model, with removable cable, so that I could simply unplug one and plug in the other.

Thanks especially for this. I'm a gamer who sets up their (left) hand on the Num keypad (for lots of very good reasons, one of which is that if you are WASD your mouse hand is stretching and that's going to give you back and neck problems) and also an audio transcriber who types for a living, all of which amounts to: needs the full keyboard including full Num keypad. I tried the 'gaming keypads' just for your one hand, so far they seem to be uniformly anti-ergonomic and non-anthropometric (my industrial design degree tells me this). So thanks, this is an excellent start on my long quest (that definitely won't include Razer; I was given a new one to try and it's rubbish - packed full of stupid gimmicks, a volume knob I don't need and which doesn't work anyway, and FRAGILE switches that shatter if you look at them the wrong way - compared to the 'legacy' one I still have that dates back to when Razer were pioneers in the mechanical keyboard realm, that still works beautifully after, what, 15 years or something?).

It's not unusual for me to wear out a non-mechanical keyboard in less than two years, so, this replacement of hardware lead me to buy more sturdy products. My current cheapskate preference is the EVGA linear or clicky versions of the Z20 that are normally well over 100 dollars, but at present are on sale in the 50 to 70 dollar region.
@HappyBeezerStudios2 жыл бұрын
Those are optical switches right? I see them with linear switches listed at 48€ currently, not bad. The version with clicky switches sadly is still 140€
@fturla___1562 жыл бұрын
@@HappyBeezerStudios The EVGA Z20 Mechanical keyboards are definitely light based optical switch tech that perform like tradition mechanical keyboard switches. If you want the actual mechanical versions then buy the EVGA Z15 keyboards, because those have mechanical switches of the Kailh design that can be swapped out for your preferred switch. I do not know if the switch connections are Cherry MX switch compatible. I recently have seen both the Z20 and Z15 priced between 30 and 60 dollars especially on the EVGA website. Both Z20 linear and clicky (LK Light Strike Optical Mechanical) versions use the LK light activated mechanical switches I have no idea if and why the description is the same, but the Z15 uses Kailh brown clicky switches and the linear version uses Kailh Speed Silver switches.

Yeah... You're just wrong here. The K100 is missing and it shouldn't. The keyboard enthusiast people need to stop valueing typing experience that high in a gaming environment. Noone gives a damn about if the typing feels nice or anything. Why would I want a overpriced lubed keychron or ducky that have: - worse software - worse/no (dedicated) macro keys - worse Media control - worse software integration All those points are WAY more important for gaming, than a freaking prelubed space bar... This comparison is stupid. Or you need to rename the video The K100 is by far the best 100% Gaming Keyboard. Nothing comes close

I will still go for Filco/leopold/varmilo if you don't need extra function, or ducky for lower price. The diffinitely not launch at 2022, but the last long and build very well. Most of their model still use Cherry MX switch which may not meet today standard feel, but the cherry switches in those keyboard feel much better on other brands especially gaming brands and proved to be longevite. If you need extra function, go for the gaming brands, but most of them (not the cheapest model) basically have same function, because the function is provided by the software not the hardware, unless the brand intendionally block the function to some models. (usually block the cheapest model) And if you want to use extra function without software, please see do the keyboard has internal memory to store those commands and function, even it does, do not mean all function can be use without software.

I will never understand why anyone needs TWO WAYS to input numbers. In my opinion, it's just not worth the extra bulk. Especially as a gamer. I often ended up bumping the numpad with my mouse, clicking accidently - so frustrating! Even as a web developer/programmer, I used to find myself too lazy to move my right hand all the way to the numberpad section and I was just using the alphanumeric keys. And then gone from full size to TKL to 60%. It's so cute, saves so much space on my desk and is much more convenient to carry. 🥰

Long time fan of hardware Canucks but you guys should really go deeper into keyboards. It's like if you only reviewed prebuilt computers. Should mention: Royal Kludge RK96 (personal daily driver with Boba 4U switches and XDA keycaps), Keychron Q5/6, and DROP shift. Considering the audience is into building and upgrading PCs, it's pretty easy to move into doing similar for keyboards. I'm also done with keyboards that aren't hot swappable.

Ok wow didn't even kno that existed! Is it being actively supported? I'm actually still using an antique G15 which has the old LCD screen - still useful. :D But the support/apps were always garbage then died off completely.
@AlexanderDinebier Жыл бұрын
@@Flohpange Sadly Corsair didn't give independent developers the option to create their own plugin for the screen. There's a lot of potential in it, but softwarewise you can't do as much with it as with the Logitech G15 screens. (As far as i know. Maybe they changed that.) So all i'm using it for is showing me total power consumption, system efficiency and time/date. (Corsair AX1200i supplies that via USB.) I'm also using a Streamdeck XL with HWinfo plugin for system stats. So each of the little screens in it is showing different informations. (CPU usage/temp, GPU usage/temp for each of the cards, water temp, pump speed, fan speeds, usage of every drive, network up-/download, and so on) The keyboard also has Streamdeck integration and 6 dedicated keys for it. I use them to switch between different profiles on the Streamdeck. The potential is limitless. What i'm using it for is just scraping on the surface.

Full size is full size. 96% is not full size. 1800 is not full size. There are still several keys missing on those keyboards compared to 100%. Why is everyone insisting on removing the numpad, and why they're making those "almost full size but cramped" layouts? Better would be to remove the arrows and nav block altogether, and leave the numpad in place - the opposite of TKL. See, there's the NumLock key since 1984, which means your num pad doubles as the nav block! But it seems no one is making such nav-less keyboards, which is a shame.
