This is great stuff. Although your lesson seems basic, it addresses many of the more complex issues that emerge as you go through the process of the day to day swing problems that crop up in your swing. The swing setup is 90 percent of golf, in my opinion.

I've gone back to this swing and it really keeps good consistency and takes much of the timing issues out of the picture. Looks like Bryson is doing some version of this as well, and he's a big fan of eliminating variables. My problem with other more ballistic/timing swings is they seem to work just fine one moment or interval and then totally fall apart five minutes later. I don't need 2x the distance, I need reliability and consistency. So taking the club extension out of the variables and also keeping width in the swing seems like a good bet. The strong grip eliminates release timing issues, and once again, maybe a more whippy release would give a faster swing but it adds variables.

Great points, paying particular attention to that inevitable, aging. Flexibility is lost. Consistency however is always regardless of age, best served with the simplest swing which is the SPS. Thanks once again for the basic discussion and review (or introduction to this for others). Appreciate your videos. Thank you. I’m 65 y, 6 m old and just back to golf after 25-30 years. This makes all the difference, and wish I had used this way back then. Standard swing would be extremely difficult for frequency of playing golf and inconsistency with results. This is so much better. Went from hitting 66-68 for 9 holes down to 50 in 2-3 weeks. Hoping shortly to get to low 80s consistently (for 18 holes); low 40s for 9 holes.

I was trying to put this stance into my game. Tried to use it in a lesson I took and the instructor said That was my first problem and wanted the hands below my shoulders in a more conventional swing stance. For me, another failed lesson. I believe this set up is the very best and I intend to put this into my game from now on. Also, I have a serious problem with coming over the top, so I really need lots of time spent with the half swing to help me correct that. Thanks for the video.

The setup with the hands higher will very often correct the over the top move. If the clubface is open through impact then adjust the grip stronger in the leading hand.

One thing not mentioned about Moe's swing, not yours, is I'm 58 and in good shape, but Moe's swing really made my joints hurt. I can swing pretty good at Moe's swing, but after a round I was hurting. Kirk's more upright swing is much easier on my body. Hope this helps if you are undecided on which method to use.
@Setup4Impact4 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard, Moe's swing can be brutal on people's body. Especially if they come in having some clubhead speed and then suddenly try keeping the trailing heel down, and lead knee flexed through impact. A recipe for lost distance and injuries. Keep it simple and move naturally. No reason to overcomplicate a simple concept.

Thanks for the video. Left arm to the club is not a straight line correct? There is still a very slight angle to it. Also, do you hinge (upward) your left wrist during back swing? Does it start at chest level or off-of the ball? I assume the 3rd step is for irons only. or for Driver as well? I tried at home and it is really hurting my left arm. Not able to relax at all. May be I was trying to go for a straight line.

Kirk, I'm a senior golfer who just started watching your videos on KZbin. Very interesting. I noticed that you seem to keep both feet planted during the swing, and don't allow your front (left) heel to come off the ground in the back swing. Is this necessary for the swing you are teaching? Lifting the front heel is more necessary for us who don't have pro golfer flexibility. :-)
@Setup4Impact5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ed, Actually my left heel does come up a bit on the backswing especially on longer shots. As long as your body stays in position it is fine. The right heel should also come up before impact.

I have adopted your setup for impact swing approach. My iron, fairway woods, and hybrids have improved significantly. The problem I am having is with my driver. I continuously top the ball. I hit hundreds of balls at the driving range, and smash my driver. Somehow this does not translate to the course. I am in two senior leagues and keep putting myself behind the 8-ball by hitting very bad (short) balls off the tee. Any advice?

Would you recommend one length golf. Clubs so the Set up is the same no matter what iron you using
@Setup4Impact5 жыл бұрын
I would try them first in a fitting. Many who buy them find out that the long irons do not hit the ball as long as they should. It is a good concept but you must verify that you are getting proper distance gaps between clubs.
@richardcharles2904 жыл бұрын
I have a set of one length golf clubs, but I don't use them. If you've played even a couple of years, you already have a feel for gap length vs. 7 iron. You will have to adjust your whole mind set for what club you're using. They are all the same length, so all you have to do is add a little extra shaft lean and your 110 yard pitching wedge is now a 135 yard 8 iron flying over the green. The biggest problem I had was using the correct club. They really need to have the club number on the face (ala Big Bertha irons), because you will be stopping half way thru your swing to check if you have the right club. Sounds silly, but I often second guessed if I had pulled the right club. I guess it's a comfort issue for each person.

Kirk Junge Thanks! I have to say that your method has by far been the best for me! I’ve taken several lessons (private, Golftec, etc.) over the last 3 years and none of them stuck; I’ve continued to struggle with early extension and flipping the club. The single plane swing you teach is so intuitive; what also helps is that your videos are consistent in the techniques explained. Too often instructors try to bring new content by explaining new “fixes” that leads to so many swing thoughts. Thank you for staying constant!!

Sounds like Moe Which is great
@Setup4Impact4 ай бұрын
Not a lot to do with Moe, except of the orientation of the arms to club at setup. Grip is different, distance from the ball, leg action, and much more. Each person needs to find their own best swing, as Moe told me many years ago. “swing like you, not like me”. More on differences at kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKfOZGufecqhgdk

Aren’t you teaching the Moe Norman swing
@Setup4Impact3 жыл бұрын
The arm orientation to club is similar, but most other aspects are different. I used to teach his swing, but found that people only really improved a lot if the concept was customized for each person. Most need to stand closer, adjust the grip to fit, more narrow stance helps people turn better, as well as not restricting natural movement.
