Been following you for about a year - so excited to see new videos posting! I’m working on saving a dying backyard. I just planted my second round of RPR (1st was last spring)- it’s been about 7 days, wondering how long until I should expect meaningful growth? I can’t tell what is old grass poking through the peat moss, and what is new growth. I stored the seed in my shed, should have been dry over the season. Wondering if something might be off with how I stored the seed? Any suggestions?

Hey Gina, Great video. Had a question on your thoughts about aerating.Would you pick up plugs if you were gonna fertilize right after or does it matter ?

I only aerate when I have soil compaction and if i do i remove the plugs and push sand or enriched topsoil into the holes to ammend the soil. fertilizer is a great thing to do after aeration.

Great video and comparison! I have an entire lawn of RK elite PRG and I feel that it does not get as thick as I would like, despite proper maintenance and overseeding. I feel that makes it more susceptible to weed pressure and poa. Would you recommend overseeding my lawn with the RPR? To get a denser turf and would it match color, texture and reflectivity (striping)? Thanks!!!
@pestandlawnginja8 ай бұрын
the new rpr mix with csi, from my knowledge has not been implemented in the rpr bags. we are patiently waiting. but as far as i can tell the rpr / csi matches great. but i will say my knorr brand at my home is dense, not quiet as dense. i would get a soil test done, i prefer mysoil, to see if there are any nutrients you maybe low in. I would also consider over seeding as well.
@paulgray71045 ай бұрын
I live in zone 5, northeast Iowa, yard is mostly full sun. I currently have Ryan Knorr perennial rye and it's doing well. I was thinking about over seeding with the Barenbrug RPR, for the spreading benefit. Do you think this would make a good blend or will this give me any issues at all? Thank you for all that you do.
@pestandlawnginja5 ай бұрын
It would blend well as soon as they release the new mix. The colors are very similar with the new mix. Unsure when they're going to announce the new blend being in the rpr bags

Had the recent wind storms take out my aspen trees in my front yard here in Draper. Going to be getting a lot more sun. Now, it just needs to stop raining on my days off so I can get out there and detach, aerate, and fertilize. Any recommendations for a seed friendly preventative?
@pestandlawnginja8 ай бұрын
what a blessing to get rid of those aspens hehehe. not a huge fan of the runners. as far as a seed friendly preventive, tenacity is about the only option.

You didn’t talk about the rgr as being regenerative perennial ryegrass. I want to know how it’s doing on spreading. In my opinion that’s the whole reason to go with rpr. Did it fill in your bare spots?

You said you watered the dry spots. How late in the winter did you do that? I shut off my exterior water at the end of October and my lawn RPR stayed very green until December, but finally went dormant. I also didn’t do any winter treatments. It’s coming back nicely now, but mine is probably 30 days behind yours (in terms of color and growth). Should I take from this that if I prevent it from going dormant into late winter and use something like a 20-0-0, I could theoretically have it be this green by mid-March?
@pestandlawnginja8 ай бұрын
This season i spot watered from end of october through november, once every 5 to 8 days. we had a dry spell during that time. but nothing crazy. The lawns in our region typically don't go dormant until after dec 5th, on average. ground temps are much higher than people think they are. I think the misperception is that a few nights of 34 degree weather doesn't mean the ground temps are permanently below 40 degrees. especially considering daytime temps range from 45 to 55 degrees throughout that time period. The fertilizer doesn't prevent it from going dormant. it gives it nutrients as the ground temps dip in and out of the growing range. when the ground temps are that low the primary nutrient becomes nitrogen. In my area we are super super low on nitrogen and potassium. i gave the lawn good doses of potassium during the primary growing season up until the end of october which also contributes to the success.

Hey! I'm in Central Utah and have a KBG lawn that's struggling to thicken up... is it possible to reseed with straight PRG like in your video (or a KBG/PRG blend) or do I need to kill it off and then make the switch? That rye grass is pretty appealing!

rye blends nicely with kentucky blue. the blue is a bit more aggressive on the thickening up and can push back on the ryegrass but not a big deal.

The advertised cultivars on the Ryan Knorr grass seed in general is not necessarily what you will receive. The website tag will say one thing, but the tag on the bag you get may be something different. Stovers, which is the actual Ryan Knorr vendor, reserves the right to swap out cultivars with what they think is a comparable cultivar selection without even letting you know. His KBG PRG included another cultivar when I purchased it, and Stovers did it again separately when I purchased direct a bag of their premium KGB blue mix last year which was supposed to have prominently have bewitched bedazzled, but it was completely swapped with 3 other KBG cultivars. Just something to keep in mind!
