We are a little took good for our own good at adapting to literally anything. We will bash our heads against that damn impossible boss until 8 hours have passed and we have finally figured out how to beat the damn thing. And all of that practice has done nothing but hone our reflexes, visual processing, decision making, etc as our brain grows new connections between neurons. Every single loss just makes us stronger and better able to deal with the next situation. We learn rapidly from our mistakes and can adapt in near real time. Actually... are we The Borg?! Someone once described our brain as twin liquid cooled super computers capable of rewiring themselves in real time to meet a constantly updating situational understanding. Each of the halves backing the other up as a complete fail over. In real time. Each possessing multiple layers of sub processing able to handle tasks or escalate as needed. Any task needing escalation can have algorithmic processes created for it by repeated action growing new neuron connections eliminating a meed for that task to rise to conscious decision making. Think about that. What you've got in your head is light years more advanced than the best we can build. Adaptation is literally coded in our DNA.

Yeah, read a short story as a kid and couldn't recall where it was from until last year. It was a short story in one of the Animorph books. The basic premise was that this race had a game where they (in their version of some kind of VR) could create a planet along with allthe plants/animals/sapients on it and develop it and compete with each other. They would broadcast these games/matches to each other, and unknowingly to the rest of the universe. One day they are invaded and all but wiped out, without being able to explain that it wasn't real but video games.

@Chase Peeler there were two modes, A and B A is normal, B you start with blocks already on the screen and have to survive long enough to complete 25 (I think) lines. To win B, start with the highest height and fastest speed. And survive. I don't know what you need to do to win A. Maybe a certain number of lines, maybe a set score... I'd play until I was bored, then die. When you win you get a cutscene of a rocket taking off, then some dancing Russian people. Game A shows the rocket up close, B shows it from far away.

1st Grand startegy game: one of the Crusader Kings RTS game: sounds a lot like C&C red alerts series to me cant pint down wich one tough. After rereading found some more i reconiced. Melee oriented game: Darksouls the git gud kinda makes me thing that Horror game: Dead by daylight Elemental animal game : pokemon 2nd Grand strategy game: Stellaris with a special mod ? cant ques the FPS prob battlefield?

Battlefield is the only shooter with large scale multiplayer and flag capturing that allows you to throw cars across maps with c4.

I see paradox is still selling dlc for stellaris. If we are lucky they will have updated the engine and graphics and only done another 14 reworks of how the planets an populations work by the time this story takes place.

The year is 32.790 solar calendar. The new Stellaris dlc, Infinity, shows wars among galaxies and horrors from beyond. Still, no rework from ground combat units
