The SARB065 dial is stunning, I'd easily take it over the Brightz. I'm a sucker for domed crystals too, so it's gotta be the Cocktail for me.
@toolongforyoutoread68 жыл бұрын
Brightz is one of Seiko's lines, like Prospex, Dolce, and Presage. I think that's moonstone on the crown. The SARB065 was designed with a famous Japanese bartender, Ishigaki Shinobu. That's why it's called the "cocktail time". Hardlex is actually closer to sapphire in hardness than ordinary mineral crystal. Mineral crystal is a 5 on the Mohs Hardness scale, sapphire is a 9, and Hardlex is a 7 or 8, depending on the grade. I've bought from SeiyaJapan, they're great and I've never been hit with import taxes (I live in Northern California). However, Long Island watch is having a 10% off sale right now which is resulting in amazing prices.

I got that SDGM (aka the Grand Cocktail) a few years ago. I have to say that when I put it next to my Grand Seiko Snowflake, it holds up very well, at least in appearance. Obviously, the Snowflake is titanium instead of steel, and it has a Spring Drive movement, but the finishing appears very similar for a watch that cost 1/6 as much.
@evvignes3 жыл бұрын
@@t185bear, I agree. Since my comment from four years ago, I have acquired a spring drive with a champagne dial. It is amazing how well the SDGM holds up in comparison. The snowflake is a stunning watch, excellent choice.

I would like to know who it was a long time ago that decided dress watches should be lume free. I know that I don't wear a dress watch only outside in the sunlight. I wear it in dim rooms as well. Anyhow, great presentation. Keep them coming.

I often think this, I probably wear dress watches more for evenings out rather than daytime so it does often strike me a little odd when people say it's a dress watch so doesn't require any lume. I'd rather have even a fine line of lume than none at all.

Great video! I like the SARG011 a lot, it's unique design and small details ie. the red on the seconds hand and the frame of the date window are priceless. Your reviews are great, as it just shows you appreciate watches of this range the same way you appreciate Haute Horology pieces.

Thank you so much for posting that video. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. I was especially pleased to see the Seiko SDGM001 ( The Brightz) as it, along with its very dark brown /black brother the SDGM003 are very underrepresented on KZbin. As you know, having examined all four watches closely, the Brightz surpasses the other three excellent watches, by a country mile in every respect bar movement in which it's their equal. Mind you, at twice the price so it should. I enjoy pretty much all of your videos very much indeed, having been a fan more or less from the start. I hope and pray your success continues and whatever dreams you may have are realised. Stay safe, stay well, stay happy!

I own the sarb033 and the sdgm001 both. I wear the sarb on a high quality black leather strap and it looks a million. The sdgm doesn't need a bracelet change because it is a superb bracelet. Especially considering the price of the watch. Put a different, higher grade movement in the sdgm and it is "almost" Grand Seiko-ish. Yes i said it. The finish and quality is that great. The sarb and thesdgm are both keepers in my collection. As is the skx007 the blue sumo and the shogun. I cannot help it but i love JDM Seiko's.

I'm sure someone has said this before but I think maybe they wanted to encourage outsiders to come and visit Japan to boost the tourism industry but of course the advent of the internet and online buying eventually brought a collapse to this objective. And due to the pride that Japan is known for, the JDMs remain largely reserved for the Japanese population. By the way, I just want to say I'm a big fan and I'm absolutely certain I'm not your only fan here in Borneo. Love your videos and all their contents. It goes without saying that your influence on the international watch community is very strong. I'm sure not many will argue that much of the watch purchase decisions around the world are based to some extent on the opinion you give on those pieces. I've been on the fence on the SDGM for quite some time but after seeing this video, I'm definitely sold. There you go on the influence.

Thanks for the reviews, TGV! Problem for me is going to be to choose what to get! I plan to buy a JDM Seiko on my upcoming trip, but there are so many to choose from! My fear is that I'm going to like the SDGM003 best, and it's really more than I'd like to spend, but it looks sooooo cool. Not that I'm going to decide until I see them in person, but I almost wish you had said the Brightz wasn't worth the extra money! Oh well, first world problems, as I'm extremely fortunate to be able to travel and have the money to spend on any one of these.

Just checked out the SGDM003 - very nice! The thing about a dress watch is that places that you're going to want one are more formal or important events. It's these types of situations that I would want to wear something a little more high end. A good value dress watch is a bit of a contradiction IMO. But then if it's only something that you wear occasionally, then cheaper makes sense. I suppose that's why the Rolex datejust has sold so well for all these years. A perfect dress watch that can be worn in all situations too.

Hi TGV. I am considering to buy the SARB 065 as a b-day present for myself. I have been reading a lot of reviews about it, and was happy when you announced that you were going to review it. My other option is the Orient Classic Star. How would you compare both watches?

Hi TGV - Great line up of Seiko's. It was very helpful to me to see them compared. I wish the SARB033 came in a 40-42 size for my wrist size. The Brightz is a very nice watch with a well built case. The second hand color of the SDGM001 reminds me of the gauge indicators on my car's instrument panel. Kind of neon red/orange as you say. Maybe that's what they were going for. Cheers!

Thank you John, if you like the SARB033 but want it in 40mm, you should go for the SDGM003, it's even better then the SARB003 quality wise, black dial and with so much more. Spot on with the observation of the colour, totally see what you mean. Best regards, TGV

A thorough review for having done 3 watches at once. Well done.... The Alpinist SARB017 (re: FB opinion poll) really is a jack of all trades: Its dressy, its tooly, its smart, its water resistant to 200m. Its stunning on perlons, brown crocodile leathers and dark blue straps. Sometimes it's hard for me to decide whether to wear it or my Rolex Datejust. They feel almost interchangeable.

The Seiko Sarx045 is just above the 500$ range, you can find it for 530-520$ , and it is by far the best looking Seiko in this price range. It is kind of a homage to the Omega Aqua Tera. My favourite is the SARB033, which also happens to be my favourite out of your entire collection! :D My Presage SRP467 sports the 4R36 movement, which basically derives from the 6R15, but with a different spring that gives about 41h of power reserve. As you said, ther's one Seiko for everybody, and that's why they're so popular.
@esa0628 жыл бұрын
Alpinist is not in fact a definitive name, there are many Seiko models with that moniker, but I think everyone meant the SARB017. It deserves it's first place IMO. It is very pretty and sophisticated, but it's also tough. You can wear it playing rugby, then rince the dirt and blood off and go get married. You know, should you have one of those days :-) That 065 dial is spectacular though. They have captured the essence of snow in it. It always stands out with the blueish hue. The movement is 21600 bph, which has been pretty much the standard in Japanese watches a long time, so calling it hi-beat requires looking back to when 18000 was the norm. It has just stuck from history. But I think today's 36000 and above hi-beat mania is pretty silly. It makes the watch a little bit more accurate, but also more voulnerable. When the oils go off, those hi-beats wear out their bearings a lot faster. I prefer the 18000's. Who cares how fluent the movement of the second hand is.

I have to agree with most of what you say about the SDGM001. I gush about mine (probably too much) I have the black version of the SDGM - the 003. I LOVE it. A lot of watch for the money. It's my place holder while I pay the layaway payments on my Grand Seiko Snowflake. That said, it's so much more than a place holder. If you buy used you can get the SDGMs for around $500 in nearly new condition. A bargain. To me the 40mm is a sweet spot and while I like the Cocktail time I like the sapphire and the case design so much more on the SDGM. And like you say, the striated sunray dials are simply exquisite. You need to buy an SDGM001! Your poll was interesting as I'm now contemplating either the Alpinist or the Sumo (the blue one though). Great review Guv. Cheers mate, John

You should definitely. Tokyo is an awesome place for watches. All those JDM models, not to mention a very active used watch market. Japanese take care of their luxury items very well and thus, you will often see used watches at dealers that look practically new. If you do drop by Tokyo, do check out these few dealers; Jack Road, Kame-kichi and Housekihiroba. There are plenty of others as well but these few have plenty of eye candy to feast your eyes on, at very reasonable prices.

Thank you Carlos, very kind of you, these Seiko watches are their best kept secret, but the secret is out! As for the GS, check my latest video ;-) Best regards, TGV

nice video sir , I would like to suggest making a video explaining the terms you use like what is the difference between the different mechanisms and different types of watches

I own a Seiko SRPG23J1 - very nice, but the bracelet is where they've cut corners. I'm going to upgrade the bracelet and it should look very good for the price.

Hello TGV, Beautiful group of watches. 👍🏼 I have the cocktail time and am planning on getting an Alpinist soon. About the beats per hour for the 6R15 movement, I believe it is 21,600 per hour. Hoping to see a Grand Seiko Chronograph review from you someday. Cheers!
@theurbangentry8 жыл бұрын
Thank you Miko, did you not see the annotation on the BPH? I put 21,600, please let me know if it is not showing up. GS review coming next week in fact, not a chrono though. Best regards, TGV

Another great video! Man, I love that Brightz!! I may have to pick up a SARG011 though. I really like the big lumed numbers.

That Brightz really do look like a Grand Seiko, what a beautiful piece. I am a real sucker for the blued seconds hand, and the combination with the champagne dial just makes it pop all the more. Though, if they had made the SABR035 with a blued seconds hand, I would have been all over that. Stunning pieces all of them, though.

Hey mate, what site do you use to buy JDM watches? Is Amazon reliable since we are not talking super high end.
@weytawidjaja26708 жыл бұрын
My 065 just recently came :D. The strap slowly grew on me as it completes the aesthetic of the watch, the blue stitching and semi patent leather just makes it complete. I do agree that it's hard as rocks though, takes sometime to break into. I also agree on it being too thick! Seems like this will be a watch to wear on a night out instead of one for the dress up. Now I wonder if it's possible to just get an OEM caseback to reduce the thickness! Even doing away with the glass wouldn't be the worst thing
@theurbangentry8 жыл бұрын
Congrats! Thank you for sharing that. I must admit, I didn't give the strap enough time to really try it, its hardness scared me! LOL Keep me posted if you change the glass. Thank you, Best regards, TGV

The sdgms and sarx models are my favorites the proportions are just right and look like there made to compete with the aqua terra and datejust as everyday sports/dress watches the quality,looks fit and feel of the watch absolutely trump the sarb as it should being 2x as expensive..the sarb033 is the ideal size but hardly noticeable unless you hold them side by side or if you have a really small wrist like under 6.5..the sarb065 just looks like a oversized chunky dress watch and comes off a bit clumsy looking on smaller wrist as opposed to the oyster esqe cases of the sarx/sdgms..im surprised one of these have not made it into your collection by now check out the sarx045 043 047

As an Engraver, may I recommend Duct tape on the measurement calipers to prevent scratching...
@vanessamercedes76758 жыл бұрын
He got tape on. He mentions that in all his vids
@Cougar139tweak8 жыл бұрын
I know this...but it's cello tape mate, it's why I mentioned it in the first place, I am an Engraver, I know from experience, I've handled 1000's of expensive pieces that absolutely cannot be scratched. or it will ruin the piece.
@Cougar139tweak8 жыл бұрын
:D "he got tape on"....just noticed that.
@vanessamercedes76758 жыл бұрын
+RED don't call me mate, I am a woman and it's just not a nice thing to say to a woman! And what's so funny on "he got tape on"?
@Cougar139tweak8 жыл бұрын
The word mate has no gender classification, (can be man or woman) is used like an exclamation mark here in Australia so it was lost in translation. I thought you were trying to take the piss and use ghetto slang (attempt at injecting levity into the conversation) I lived in Texas previously so I am pretty used to hearing that kind of thing, usually jokingly, did not mean to offend you.

I own the SARG009 and thought it was more or less the same besides the seconds hand but the dial is different, too. The dial on the SARG009 is black but shinier and with a touch of brown sunburst in certain light. The SARG011 seems to have a more matte dial. Overall it feels like a solid, high quality tool watch. Complaints- it is a tad too big for me as well and I did have a little trouble with the movement (it would be dead on accurate on a table but would lose half a minute a day on the wrist). I got it serviced at my local watchmaker and it runs a lot better now.

Great video TGV! Seiko Presage please. Also, why not put coloured tape on your calipers, like black or white electrical tape. That way viewers immediately see the protective tape and saves you from mentioning it over and over. Keep up the good work.
@theurbangentry8 жыл бұрын
As you said please, of course!!! So many just say review this, review that like an order! LOL Of course, I am dying to take a look at the Presage too. Good idea on the tape btw, Thank you, Best regards, TGV

That Alpinist love though, not just that it's such a great watch in itself, but how it's doing it's own thing and not really trying to be anything else. With the current one the green dial definitely doesn't suit everyone's tastes, but you can't argue it's distinctive while still in a subtle and classy way.
@gmotionedc54123 жыл бұрын
I just ordered the silver dial with blue hands! Just a beautiful watch I think
@mistral557 жыл бұрын
Personally I'm not surprised the Alpinist won. I've owned one for 12 months now, worn daily in all situations from boardroom to mountains, and no issues with the colour as even with a business suit it becomes an interesting feature rather than a matching bland accessory. It also has that weird quality of becoming very personal. Hard to explain save my partner puts it as seiing me without it would be like seeing me without hair,... and I would feel bald. Save to say it looks feels, performs and like a heritage piece from day one and with an appropriate strap (I've got mine on a vintage style Tan Leather TSS Watchworx Atlas, a beautiful quality strap which over 12 months has acquired a sublime patina which becomes the vintage look perfectly. Incidentally we do now have a Seiko Alpinist appreciation page on Facebook for those who are interested. :)

curious to hear your thoughts on the SARG009 which a lot of people calls the Seiko Explorer. have the SARG011 as I feel in love with the 'red' second hand, but lately the clean black and white look of the SARG009 has piqued my interest and very reminiscent of the Explorer I. love my SARG011 and see my self keeping it on the long run but l'm finding that I want a smaller field watch so an Explorer 14270 or 114270 is my end watch goal.

Hi TGV, I haventhe SARG011 and love it. I even like the leather band, which comes with a deployment claps. BTW, I believe the 6R15C beats at 21,600 bph, not 28,800.
