3:04, thats the way you do it. Take someone completely off their feet, then they have absolutely no leverage to use against you. Those not familiar with Judo don't realize how much leg work is involved in take downs, most just think of hand grappling/throwing, where as most is simply eliminating the opponents leverage by taking out their legs with leg throws. So much fun to watch. Again a huge thing, taking someone off their feet = no more leverage.

Imagine being thrown down at hard surfaces.
@BW0224 жыл бұрын
The mats are aren't soft. Depending on the venue the floor might have some give. Traditional mats are compressed straw while newer types are compressed foam. However, they are darn solid -- especially when new. The reasons why no one is injured (in these cases) is that the goal is to throw people on the flat of their backs, the opponents all know how to break fall (and keep their heads tucked in), and of course the video is of successful throws. If it was half-point or third-point throws... you'd see a lot more hard/bad landings and injuries. And if these were actual fights... you'd see the thrower not being so 'clean' on the throws -- dropping to knees, not keeping uki's head shielded, etc. In which point, the surface would be a secondary concern. I'd take a clean throw on concrete over being thrown by someone on a mat intentionally dropping to their knee(s) and dropping their shoulders such that my head, neck, or shoulder was the only part of my body taking the fall.
