But I’ve been heard/read that the ED1 numbers aren’t exactly accurate because colleges use a lot of their early spots for athletes and legacies.
@SupertutorTV2 жыл бұрын
This is true at top ten colleges for sure- esp Harvard and Penn- and when you see 1.5x odds at schools yes. But when 80% or 50% of a class is filled early they are not all athletes or legacy- Harvard runs one of the stronger legacy games and they are probably 15-20% legacy vs 30% as they used to be. The trend toward ED is rising though
@kimbeg70822 жыл бұрын

I think the ED numbers are completely skewed not only by legacies and athletes but also targeted URM, low income and 1st generation students. A lot of Top schools will do Flyover programs so if those kids apply, they will probably get accepted. Bottom line: If you are a normal student without a hook (athlete, legacy,. URM , low income), your chances are probably almost identical between ED and RD - maybe a couple of % higher - not 20-30%
@brookifyd2 жыл бұрын
From working as an independent consultant-- 50% of my students* who applied ED/REA/EA to their top choice school (or regular if to a UC as top choice) got in-- second round the drop off was STEEP last year. Things are changing and I'm seeing huge advantage early right now with the cohort I work with (typically not URM/low income, typically NOT athlete, legacies excluded I get those sometimes but didn't have many last year-- but may have great activities, incredible accomplishments, amazing recs and always strong stats) (*24/36 of my students elected to respond to our annual survey, majority of those who didn't respond did ~1-2 lessons only vs more)

When I went on a tour there they said that they take about 25% from each pool. Considering that the pool sizes are smaller for ED you have a better chance. Take this with a grain of salt bc when they gave their info section idk if they gave the harsh reality

Hey Brooke, I plan on applying ED to either UPenn or Dartmouth and I’m conflicted I love both schools but UPenn is closer to home (but it also has a lower acceptance rate for ED applicants and tends to prioritize student athletes in the ED round) any advice

Yale should be on the blog chart did you check that? Stanford doesn't release data but IMO there is an advantage to early. At least from my students that I work w/. Brooke, I remember that you did a video referencing applying ED to the Ivies may not be a good strategy if you are not a legacy as they are advised to apply ED and that could be a big pool of applicants. Does the ED% account for all of the legacies, i.e. Yale’s ED Pool%. Thank you and love your informational videos!!

This video is a little misleading. In addition to legacy, you got donor’s and All recruited athletes applying ED.

Right these stats over represent the advantage at about top five or top ten schools (at HYPS for ex) That was my point in the other video. There is still an advantage conferred though I would say even without athletics or legacy at least from what I’ve been seeing post Covid. This is the first cycle of data that we’ve had post Covid so I am shifting on my advice on this point given that data. We’ve not seen early numbers this high in the past I think “. I also had a couple kids get in regular who did SCEA last year and I think that extra knowledge that a college is the students first choice helps. Below the top ten or so these stats underrepresent the early advantage IMO

Hello Brooke! I’m thinking about applying Ed to NYU but I still wanna apply to other top colleges like Princeton. However, I wanna secure a spot at NYU in case I don’t get into the other top colleges-though I might choose not to go there if they do not provide me with enough financial aid-Should I apply ED? And let’s say I got in and they offered me a decent aid package, am I allowed to reject it even if I can afford going there after the aid?

NYU notoriously gaps people on aid. Their aid sucks. You can reject it if you can't afford it but you get to decide the line you can afford. Just don't go to a more $$$ school after that if you turn it down. But if you ED you should be prepared to go to NYU and not go to Princeton. You'll need to tell them what your negotiation line is with aid and they may not tell you immediately what they can do for you. I had a student at an Ivy request more aid and it didn't come through until early March.
