I installed the Updated Bilstein package this summer. Folks, just take your time, and you can do it. It’s just nuts and bolts. I would recommend buying a can of PB Blaster and maybe a couple days before you install (or first order it) spray everything you feel you’ll need to get at (via this video) and then some. And again the next day. It gets messy, but while installing the lift, you can wipe it down when you’re done, which the remaining penetrating oil will help preserve and fight rust (you can tell I’m from Wi, lol) Get an alignment done after. I drove mine for a month because I wanted to wait for my new tires to come in before I had it aligned, so Everything could be done at once. It handled ok during that time, but since then it really does handle better, firmer, flatter then stock. No rattles, no problems. I would buy again. Again, it’s not that difficult, you can do it.

Hi, Thanks for the RL and NW vids. Any feedback on either relocating or protecting from harm those emission components under the driver's seat area of the undercarriage? Any issues w/the rear tow hitch w/either the RL or NW lift? What hitch do you have? Looking for one that tucks up out of the way. My '09 RAV4 V6 AWD will be getting a lift along w/a tire upgrade. I test fit a set of 245/65R17 (29.5" tall/diameter) winter tires and as you noted a 31" tire would be the max due to the front's lower spring perch. Here's a cheat sheet for wheels/tires I created. Stock RAV4 tire height/diameter: 215/70R16 = 27.9" 225/65R17= 28.5" 235/55R18 = 28.2" (Sport) Upgrades - NOTE if you use aftermarket wheels ensure the OFFSET (45mm is what I found online) and Center Bore (60.1mm) will work: 235/70R16= 29" 225/75R16= 29.3" 235/75R16= 29.9" 235/65R17= 29" 245/65R17= 29.5" 235/70R17= 30" 235/60R18= 29.1" 235/65R18= 30"

So I watched both your videos on the different lifts for the rav4 and I really appreciate that because as far as I can tell you have the best diy on the web. Moving forward, between the two kits what was your experience and how do they fair up until now. I am mechanically inclines and am not scared to do the work myself however there is very little feed back on the net as far as giving a modest lift to the rav for general outdoor clearance. Thanks in advance
@CreativeMechanic4 жыл бұрын
A lot of people believe the bigger lift the more tire you can fit, but the RAV4 front strut will limit your tire size to 31” unless you run spacers. Both kits raise the vehicle but the Northwoods will give you more longevity in your CV axles because of how it works, but it doesn’t raise it as high as the Readylift. Northwoods rides better, but Readylift is taller. I plan on combining the two, but need to work some issues out first

@@CreativeMechanic definitely interested in that combo update! I've been debating on a lift solution for my 2007 so I'll definitely be looking forward to it. @CreativeMechanic4 жыл бұрын
Springs let you carry more load with less sag, they lift the vehicle without as much stress on the CV axles. The spacer is used to “level” the vehicle so the front sits level with the back. However the spacer in this kit is much shorter than a spacer alone kit. Both types of kits have pros and cons

I have been test driving some 2017 2018 RAV 4s with around 20000 miles and some rides feel way better than others in the same model XLE. I sold my 2018 RAV LE because the ride was so harsh. Recently test drove a XLE that rode great and an XLE that rode as bad as the LE I got rid of. I am wondering why the huge difference from vehicle to vehicle. Any ideas out there?

You sold me on this kit for my RAV4! I had it lifted recently, but I’ve been experiencing vibrations only when I hit 20 mph and stops after that. Did you have to troubleshoot any vibrations or have to change your pinion angle? Nathan mentioned it could be my CV joints (my car ran perfectly fine before the install) so I’m having that checked out soon but I was wondering if you ran into any issues as well. Thanks!
@CreativeMechanic3 жыл бұрын
You get an alignment after the install? Did you change tires at the same time?
@FingMou3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply! I had an alignment done and no new tires. I’ve read that it may not be a tire issue at low speeds, but I’ll go get a second opinion on an alignment or have my tires rotated.

Have you not had any issues with the CV axles? I installed the kit and I’m getting a wobble around 20-25 mph. Reading the forums and it seems others been having the same issue. Just wondering btw, I’d appreciate the response and any insight into the problem. (2012 V6 4WD)
@CreativeMechanic3 жыл бұрын
I think the issues come from the rear toe arms. Do you have the ones that were glued for the safety recall?
@rgrrgrsxndngr19043 жыл бұрын
I have new rear toe arms, took the glued ones off, and I still get wobble around 20-25 mph. I was thinking it was my second gear in the transmission causing the wobble this whole time. Think I'll have to stick a few go pros underneath and drive it around. Going to install some Specialty Products adjustable rear camber arms this week.
@OGLouisVuittonDon3 жыл бұрын
@@rgrrgrsxndngr1904 Has to be front axle related. I took off the front lift and kept the rear lift (temporarily ) and the wobble disappeared. I’m almost certain the slight change in angle for the CV axles is the likely cause. Mine has 100k miles so they are probably worn out. Took off the lift completely in the end.
@rgrrgrsxndngr19043 жыл бұрын
@@OGLouisVuittonDon ahhh I see. Yeah it definitely feels like the shaking comes from the front, not the rear. Maybe I’ll try removing the front struts and toss the old ones back on to see if that fixes it also.
@OGLouisVuittonDon Жыл бұрын
@Jeremy When I commented this, at the time there was only one thread that "solved" this issue with your response. There were still countless other threads in the process of diagnosing and suggesting other solutions. Now enough time has passed for me to be confident in your response that is now backed by few more confirming the same. I just wanted to understand the issue better so I'm not going in circles spending unnecessary time/money. Some more insight for anyone else curious. It's been confirmed that the issue is indeed tied to CV axle wear and new CV axle angle. The new angle causes some slack between the gears and the wear pattern that most axles will gradually develop with enough miles, which then causes the shake when enough power is ran through. Unfortunately no aftermarket axles have been confirmed (yet) to fix the wobble.

1. The 2006-2012 AWD Rav4 was Toyota’s fastest 0-60 vehicle 2. It can tow 3,500 pounds 3. It gets 28 mpg 4. It has tons of cargo space because the spare is on the rear door, my Great Dane can stand up no problem. It’s hard to find another vehicle from that time that competes with those stats

No, if anything you should have someone check your shocks
@ferdinandtorres39304 жыл бұрын
I've watched a lot videos to get my RAV4 ready for some off-roading. Lower the tire pressure when you're about to go off-road. Most videos show 20-25 pounds of pressure for off-roading. This gives you more cushion for the ride with the softer tires. Make sure you have an air pump so you can reinflate before you get back on highway or regular streets.
