After researching all the low cost water/oil filters I could find I finally found the one. This video features what I believe is the best for the money. It can be found on eBay for $99.00 under the heading "PCP Compressor 4500psi Oil Water Diving Filter 300bar 30mpa L350.

Hello Aaron, thank you for the concise explanation. I recently decided to make the "plunge" into PCP's and decided on the Yong Heng compressor based on other reviews and maintenance information I found elsewhere. I just subscribed to your channel because you're easy to understand and you've obviously done your homework which saves people like me, time. It's not obvious to some that these high pressure air systems can be very hazardous if not properly utilized and maintained and these systems deserve lots of care and respect ! Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Thanks. A bit of advice: never fill a tank to over 3,700 psi. I know of people ho insisted on filling their carbon tanks to 4,500 psi and the unit failed somewhat quickly. It is rated to 4,500 but remember it cost only about $400. So don,' push it too hard. Thanks and best of luck

@@aaroncantrell8819 Troy Hammer of Annihilator Airguns did the full tune which includes upgraded cocking lever, upgraded trigger sear and polish, Deadblow valve modification, hardended valve stem, highly modified transfer ports and power adjuster, slingshot hammer and anti debounce, dual hammer spring, quiet kit suppressor baffles and air stripper, and some other tweaks. I asked for a gun that would shoot 36 shots (3 mags) at 45fpe. It came close to that and only cost me $285 shipped - the gun cost me $450 and I had it direct shipped from pyramid air to his home. I had the gun back in about 3 weeks. Since then the hammer spring settled and weakened some but Troy sent me replacement springs right away and an additional spring that he installs in the .25 cal guns that upon some initial chrony testing is shooting 28gr hollow point bow tail slugs/bullets at 900fps and shooting the 25.5gr JSB Monsters at 960fps - this is a very accurate speed believe it or not for this pellet and a ballistic coefficient of between .045 and .051! I've taken things apart to do more polishing and done a bit of chrony and target tuning but everything else was done by Troy. check him out at annihilatorairgunsandtuning.com/

Hello Aaron, great video. Most large scale desiccant & molecular sieve dryer systems in industry have 2 vessels with pre and after chamber Flo filters. Most all have inlet water & oil separaters that somewhat limit dessicant bed contamination. The oil/water flows to a timed drain tank.They use dry air from the drying chamber to reverse flow the saturated vessel moisture to atmosphere to dry out the bed for the next cycle.. Of course this occurs at a much lower psi ie 100-120. I will order one of these dryers as you suggest and remove the dess and mol sieve and dry it out in the oven. Your the first KZbinr to explain that if the drying chamber isn't allowed to dry, it is useless.
@aaroncantrell8819
@aaroncantrell8819 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks you for the idea of using the oven to dry the sieve and the idea of a pre filter before the chamber filter I know it will help with the oil problem but I am not sure if it will for the water problem. However I am going to look into it. One thing I am doing it turning on a dehumidifier in the basement where the compressor is kept and not filling the tank until the humidity is below 40%. Thanks again for all the information. Keep me informed if you come up with any other great ideas when you get your filter. Best of luck.

Put high quality hydraulic oil in it and change it often. Also keep it cool by putting damp rags on the two high pressure tube and don't push it to 4,500 psi when filling your tank. I find that following these recommendation will make the Yong Heng last for years. Oh yes, the filter is a good idea also. Best of luck.

I have 2 of the chinese branded compressors as well as the air venturi model. As part of my filling routine i always purge my hoses for 10 to 20 seconds to allow any moisture or oil to be released prior to filling. Also i baby the compressors only allowing them to run for so many minutes and then giving them a decent amount of cool down time,especially with my small back up tank...and the large scuba tanks..well they get filled at the scuba shop(no point in making my smaller compressors work extra hard on larger volumes of air)....great video man!

I agree that we should not over tax the compressor so I to only use it to fill my small tank to 3500psi and I take the big tank out to have it filled. I do everything I can to keep the heat down and am learning even more ideas on cooling. A question. I don't think I understand how yo purge the hoses for 10 to 20 seconds. Can you explain. Thanks.

aaron cantrell i live in the tropics(hawaii)...i noticed that regardless of whatever air filter i had on my h/p compressor there was always a bit of oil/water in the line(probably because none of these compressors have an air tank)...so now i just turn the rig on for a few seconds without attaching the fitting to anything and blow out any water that may have condensated since my last fill. I also use this method as a way to tell if my filter needs replacing.

Great video, and I applaud you for looking into things as opposed to dismissing them. This is a real concern. Whether or not it ever manifests itself into a problem depends on a few things, but any time you are using compressed air for sensitive applications, filtering and moisture removal are almost always required. The best systems use air dryers that cool the air below the dew point to seperate te water from the air after any oil and contaminants have been removed by a micron filter. Carbon is also not a bad idea. Especially if you have chlorine tablets in your garage or something like that. High pressure in these metal tanks.

These are great pumps ..Had mine for almost 2 years now . Not any problems.. Aaron if anyone is complaining about these pumps it is because they have some kind of interest in the American made 1200 dollar pumps. Believe it or not.. this Yong Heng pump is twice as fast at filling my tank than the 1200 dollar american made pump. I paid 303 dollars for my pump and just like yours has the two tubes going to a separator and mine also has automatic shut off I can set .. I do just like you do...set my pump to stop at 4200 or 4300 instead of the max 4500 I agree with your advice .. really good. THanks and YES these are great pumps.....

I told him that my friend purchased a Omega compressor for $1,900 and it broke after 51 hours. He has a Yong Heng that is still working great. I also told him that we so called airgunners are very happy when we can buy a compressor for $230 that work as well or better than a $1900 Omega and then spend the $1,670 saving on other guns. Thanks for watching and for your comment.

Old video, but I see youare still active. I recently bought a molecular sieve, but I will be returning it. I have a condensation tower inline, that almost did it. The finishing touch was to add cooling to the vertical line going from the second stage head to the leaving line. I run a piece of 3/8 copper along the line, wrapped it with bare copper wire, and hooked it to my water loop. Just did my first test, the black filter like you have leaving my condensation tower was completely dry. I also use diester oil. The same thing they use for scuba tank compressors. Its expensive, but doesn't smell or carbon up the high side piston.

I have two in series. I left the factory inline cotton filter in place. Next I installed a moisture removal stage. It works by allowing moisture and oil to fall out of the air stream (gravity). It I installed before the dessicant stage. So before the compressed air even gets to the desiccated stage, most of the oil/water issue is resolved. Makes the desiccant stage last forever,

I saw this comment on Amazon from a guy using a similar filtering oil/water separator: "1 Year update: This is still working great. I have not had any issues and I'm still using the original media and cotton filter. In all honesty 95 to 99% of the moisture is trapped by the compressors mini cotton filter. I recently tore my Hatsan's tanks down to install regulators and while working on them I checked for moisture and there was ZERO. I even ran a tissue down the tube a few times and it came back perfectly dry." Also, you can remove the beads and desiccant and sun dry or oven dry them if they get damp, then re-use it.

I have posted the tree stand setup take a look at the next compressor video. No need to place one on the inlet because there is not enough pressure to make the filter works. It has to just be on the high pressure side. What does work is keeping a humidifier set on 40% in you basement and doing all you filling there. Sometime the humidity can get as high a 80 or 90 percent in the garage or outside. Thanks for watching.

Use a silica ozone generator filter (Amazon $26.99) on the intake negative pressure side in conjunction with the tuxing filter on the pressurized side. It's tubular with blue pellets in it. Screw the screen filter on the intake side of that and it works great. Catches the moisture before it cycles through the pump.

Many people still use a hand pump to fill their guns, and most of those have no filtration at all (some do - but even my expensive FX 4-stage pump doesn't by default). Of course there's little chance of getting much oil in the system with a hand pump but water is always a concern. So using a Yong Heng (type) electric compressor together with a filter system has to be a better system than a hand pump for your guns and nobody is suggesting using a hand pump is a bad idea. Also, some sort of drying system on the input would help a great deal, it can be a large volume container of desiccant (it's not under pressure so easy to DIY a solution) and maybe a few Kg of self-indicating Silica Gel in a large plastic bag would do the job. Use large diameter (say. 1" ID) plastic tubing to connect to the input so there is little added resistance. It's something I'm going to investigate anyway, even if only half the water is removed that is still a significant reduction in the amount of water entering the machine in the first place. Lastly, first service you do on the machine just replace all the O-rings you can access with decent Viton seals, the supplied ones are rubbish, they will disintegrate and bits will be spread throughout the plumbing. Don't wait until that happens!

Some advice, If you are ever around when someone using a electric compressor and filling a tank to 4,500 psi I want you to put a white cloth over hole when they depressurizes the fill line and see, fill and smell what is one it. Oh, and never compare a hand pump to any high pressure pump because there is no comparison. Best of luck.

Nice video. YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK. I do have to mention however you need to do a little more homework. Molecular Sieve and Silica Gel are both in the Desiccant family. They both take water out of the air however they do it at different rates at different humidity levels. At 10% RH molecular sieve desiccant can adsorb 15% of it's own mass in moisture. At 10% RH silica gel only has the capacity to adsorb about 5% of its own mass in moisture. So you would need 3 times as much silica gel to adsorb the same amount of moisture as molecular sieve! At 70% RH silica gel has almost 50% more capacity than molecular sieve desiccant. Also at 40% RH both desiccants behave the same. So in short depending on what your starting RH is will determine which desiccant is better to use. My suggestion is since you do not plane to use the Activated Charcoal the add equal amounts of each. Check this site out it was very very helpful for me when I was learning the differences. I copy pasted a lot of the numbers. It was easier than typing. www.flowdry.com/news/2015/10/silica-gel-desiccant-versus-molecular-sieve-adsorbent-which-desiccant-is-best.ht ***** PS, I use the same system without the Activated Charcoal myself. It is fabulous. *****

Arron, Can you tell me if you had to replace the female foster fittings that came on the hose with the Yong Heng or also the one that came on the hose with the oil water diving filter? The female foster fittings will not fit on any of my air gun's male foster fittings or my fill station hoses. the female fitting will fit over the male, but the ring will not lock on. I tried replacing the fitting on both hoses with a new female foster, but the threads are a different size and I have no clue what size they might be. It's frustrating because I bought the compressor, gold filter, desiccant and everything else recommended, but now I can't fill anything because of these odd-ball foster fittings. QUESTION on the order of filter stages: My air hose out of Yong Heng is always the first stage of filtration. Should I put in filters that remove the OIL first or do a mixture of OIL and WATER? My second stage is also a small 5" filter tube. I assume I should put this full of cotton and desiccant to go after the WATER. My third stage is a long black tube from Amazon with only cotton in it. I will replace that with half cotton and half coconut charcoal to go after WATER and ODOR. Would you suggest any other order for the 3 filters? I am also doing an input filter of desiccant to remove WATER before the pump begins compression. This is for a 0.5 L SPARE AIR tank for shallow diving. tjcooper

I would recommend using the filter that came with the compressor as a first stage oil/water filter then make sure that the big filter has cotton first to take out the oil before it reaches the water filters that should come second. I would replace the charcoal with the water filtering agent of your choice because the charcoal main duty is odor and taste for scuba diving. But if you are going to go diving leave the charcoal. Just my opinion. Thanks for watching.

Where would you get one of those filters to do it? I'm getting one of these compressors in a few weeks, and I'm thinking about this potential water problem also. However, I have yet to see any videos of a Hatsan tank having any problems, and there tanks screw off n on. I've also heard of water getting inside of the rifle itself, but wouldn't climate be a contributing factor also? For instance, I live in California, and we have no humidity problem here. I wouldn't think in this climate one would have to worry about the innards of their rifle being damage by a little water that should evaporate soon enough. Still, I like your idea, if I knew where to get one. Hey! I'm brand new at this. 😳

aaron cantrell I'm sorry, I was mentioning the dry-pac refills. Those are dessicant. Well the manual says to change those every 3 months, as soon as you open the pack.So I figured the same rules applies for the seive. Which I purchased as well. I bought the full molecular sleeve and the tuxing cylinder seperator you have here after watching your vids. I hope it's not hard to install and works properly, for me.There aren't any instructions and I noticed them displaying like a screw coming out, on one of the other ads on their site.So I would like to know the answer too. I went with the molecular seive out the gate, from AliExpress, just like you guys have mentioned. I think they are on holiday right now. But my tuxing "cotton" separator, should be here by the 25th and I'm going to run it then.

Aaron, I watched this and got to wondering why no one has done a dessicant pre-filter on the intake air to the compressor. I went out and looked at my Harbor Freight regulator (which does a great job of removing moisture) and scratched my head. I haven't taken the cover off the compressor (haven't even run it yet), so I don't know what to expect inside. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. I can see advantages to this such as not adding more high pressure connections as well as keeping the moisture out of the compressor and therefore the air bottle. Thank you.
@aaroncantrell8819
@aaroncantrell8819 4 жыл бұрын
I think you are wrong about the whole pre-filter idea. There is really no way to extract any meaningful amount of moister at the air intake. Only the pressurized air can yield any real moister. Go to any professional scuba shop and you will not find a single pre water filter at the intake. However you will see some serious filtration at the high pressure end just like in this video. Sorry, I don't know where to find the parts. I never fill my tank passed 3,500 psi in order to not stress the compressor too much. I think it will last longer that way. Just because it is rated to 4,500 does not mean it is good to do. When I want to fill it to 4,500 psi I go to the scuba store where they have a $5,000 compressor designed to really fill it that high. Just a thought. Thanks for watching.
