Sounds like my opinion. I would take the Metaspeed sky. I own the nine Vaporfly and the metaspeed sky. For me the Metaspeed Sky is the better raceshoe because it's more stable and also really fast. Works great with my type of runningstyle 👌👌👌

I bought the Alpha 2s and compared them to my vapour 2s for a 1k x 5 interval session. Alpha 2 won by a huge amount despite the weight. I had never done a 3:11 km before the Alpha 2s. Couldn't believe my eyes looking at my watch.

@@o0oSM00THo0o I ran each KM flat out with a sprint finish, like a vo2 max workout with a good amount of rest in between so I could hit some fast splits. If you add the splits up, I took 25s off my interval PB just by using alpha 2s. It was way to hot and humid that day too...to be getting a pb. I have repeated the process too just in case I was having a good day. Same result.

@@AlexFilitti definitely soft and for me, unstable in my right foot. As a forefoot striker, I feel excess movement in my right leg. This made me feel like I was working harder with my right leg to stabilize the overall ride. I do think they feel comfortable otherwise. The upper I’m not in love with as it’s slightly tighter on my toes, and less comfortable as endo pro v1. The upper on v1 felt much softer and accommodating to me. V3 is certainly more breathable though. I like that you mentioned the rc elite 2 with this because that’s exactly what it reminded me of. I did not like how soft they were either. I would say endo pro v3 is bouncier but about as soft.

Basically at those numbers it’s just down to personal preference. Performance they’re all equally matched so fit, shape, ride are just preferences. I’ll continue to get old colourways cheap after this :D

Terrific video; thank you! A thought I had was that the data you presented was for only one rep (2 km in each shoe once). It would be interesting to change the order around and do three reps or so (18k total). That would give us a sense of the variance in the data, etc. How about that for a workout suggestion! Great video! I'm still on the fence if I should get the Alphafly 2. I love v1, but I'm concerned with the added weight, width, bulk of the v2. I'm doing Chicago marathon in the fall and leaning towards using the Vaporfly v2.

If you’re concerned about width, weight and these things for v2 compared to v1…don’t be concerned! The ride is fairly similar and actually a little better thanks to these improved details! Hope this helps!

Hi Michael. I'm running Chicago too, hoping to break 2:50 (if everything goes right). I race usually in VFN2 but because the AF1 gave me big toe problems, otherwise I would used the Alpha. For the v2, I have the Proto, and it's true that it's heavier, but it's a better shoe than v1. Better upper, more comfy, you don't sink that much and the 8mm drop I think works best in the latter stages of the marathon. I would go with the Alpha but hey, you can't go wrong with the Vaporfly, that's right. Have a great one!

That was the best "shoe battle" video I have ever seen and, I dare say, the most interesting and complete video on carbon plated shoes there will be this year. I have said it before, and I will say it again: your channel should (and will) have millions of subscribers. I had my eye on the Endirphin Pro 3, for its versatility. But I will now, I think, try the Edge+. My typical cadence ranges from 185 to 190, including on easy and steasy runs... The previous version was too firm, but it looks like the new one is at least worth trying for someone with my type of cadence. Thanks!

Very scientific. Great review. I love the alpha, but all new reviews are raving about the endorphin pro 3. I was surprised to hear you compare it to the rc elite. That was my 1st super shoe and I loved it until I tried the alpha and Adidas pro 2. Should I try the endorphin, what do you think

A lot of this is subjective and needs testing on a wide range of runners for it to be useful. Also worth noting the Metaspeed Edge is for cadence runners to increase stride length, NOT increase cadence.

Great video Alex. I’m a big fan of the Alphafly V1. Ran my HM and M PBs in that shoe. Looking for a new shoe to race in my next marathon and I’m really undecided between buying a new V1 or getting the V2. Heard some reviewers saying that V2 is not as bouncy, and tbe weight gain really puts me off. Edge+ didn’t work for me and the fit of Sky+ wasn’t great. Not sure about the Endorphin 3, although I really enjoyed the V1 for shorter distances. What do you suggest? Thanks and congrats for the great work.

@@AlexFilitti still the king apparently 🙈 I did my first duathlon recently and am eager to do more. The VF takes too much time to get on right in transition (that tongue….), so I put speed laces in my Alphafly’s and that worked ok. They’re still not the easiest to get on though and for the shorter distances I would prefer a more VF-like snappy shoe. I noticed that the metaspeeds are popular with triathletes and transition quickly. When I need new racing shoes, I will consider a non-nike option with the duathlon in mind. But it seems the Nikes are still the best when it comes to performance… What do you use for your duathlons?

Just bought a pair and I personally disagree, I think they’re firmer than the Alphaflys. In fact, that’s the reason I returned the Alphaflys, too mushy and too unstable. The Endorphins are the perfect amount of mush and much more stable. So there.

I agree! The are about equal in “mushiness” but the Pro 3 is much more stable. I have high arches and very normal feet in width. I’ve never liked Nike because of how narrow they are and just have never fit my feet like Saucony.

Great video. Because I am a striker between midfoot and forefoot. I like endorphin pro 3 very much. And I don’t like alphafly next 2 because I can’t fell the rocker. I like the midsole of adios pro 3 but I don’t like its upper. I will try sky + when my size is available.

Alphafly remains better for my biomechanics. Pro 3 is a little too mushy and unefficient for my stride. Alpha 1 is quite demanding on the calves though.

I saw a nice study with lab verified data showing the AF V2 being far less efficient than AFV1. The study is only N=1 like yours so not really that valid except for the single participant. Slower and less efficient runners may benefit more from different shoes than a faster more efficient runner so we should all take this information in stride (no pun intended) and test the super shoes out ourselves in similar type studies. Easily the AF V1 provides me with the most efficiency, regardless of distance.

Looks like I was slightly off in my prediction from the Instagram post about these. I’d have thought you’d rate the adidas higher. Good informative video. I’ve only used the Alphafly out of these but I don’t think I need to look much further. It’s such a good shoe to run in. My session last night saw me running in it from 5:00/km down to 2:36/km and it felt brilliant at all paces. I seem to have a liking for shoes which come over from your measurements as the least stable and with the fastest pronation velocity. I must have something in my gait or running style that gels with that type of shoe. Alphafly, Rebel v2, Endorphin Speed - all of them my favourites. Also, what happened to the cosy pain cave set up? Not as much of a fan of the echoey corporate office table set. ☹️

Lots of changes and an « updated » pain cave is in the making. The echoey room is actually our living room (still empty indeed) 😉 Your comment also says something interesting about Nike’s understanding of fast shoes. The VF also has a high pronation and pronation velocity. The two of them are shoes that « let the body speak ». If that make sense. Thanks Andy!!

What shoe would offer the most energy return and stability, I need a racing shoe that stops me pronating in too much whilst dealing with post tin tendinitis’s. Alphafly was designed for efficient forefoot strikers. If you are not a clean forefoot striker you’re wasting your effort in the Alpha. Just watch Kipchoge run 😎

I would respectfully disagree. Eliud is a midfoot striker but the Alphafly is one of the super shoes that works no matter the footstrike and race pace

@@AlexFilitti Thanks for the reply :-) I'm not sure on Kipchoge midfoot strike. If you watch him run in slow motion he hits his forefoot squarely. His sub-2 running video shows how he easily bounces off the forefoot with very little ground contact behind the Alpha air pod. While the Alphafly is lower drop (5-6mm) than the Vaporfly, allowing for a more natural footfall, the key to the shoe's performance is the air pod energy return. I tell runners who say they don't run well in the Alpha is to imagine they are running a gentle uphill all the time: lean the torso forward more, and rely on the forefoot. I don't know anyone who is a mid to heel striker who likes the Alpha. The heel on the Alpha is basically for light stability, but not for the primary foot strike.

After 135 miles in the Alphaflys they are the only shoes (I've have many brands/models) where I can't find ANY wear in the heel after that distance. I feel the shoe compels or at least strongly encourages me to strike more mid-foot (perhaps even forefoot) as a sensation and I'm happy to oblige given the feeling of efficiency and good results. I've got other super shoes and this is my favourite by far for marathon + distances because of that and the cushioning. It's another N=1, but it's mine. I agree about the forefoot - rely on the forefoot to do the job (with just a very slight lean from the ankles). I think if you can't get onto the forefoot the advantage of the Alpha fly is greatly diminished. I have 2 friends that are classic heel strikers and Alphaflys didn't seem to help their speed at all, while I got a huge boost.

hey Alex ...what's Up? lol ...how is the AAAPro3 in comparison to the Pro2S, the 2s were my best marathon shoes , i enjoyed the foam thats i felt realy dynamic (more so than VF2 lol)...a lot of reviewers said that they are not realy bouncy or didn't feel a lot of energy return in the 3s, but they a more stable and i don't know why but i didn't feel the 2s that much unstable as some ones mentioned in their videos....( i'm finaly not sure to buy the 3s now) and now my MA training plan continues in the South lol ;)

@@AlexFilitti Thank you! I was tempted by the Endorphin and its squishy midsole, but the stability of the Adios is winning me over. I think the Endorphin could be a problem to me just like the Rebel V2 was: great running "feeling", but terrible for the calves.

I’ve got the edge+, the fit isn’t great for me and feels firm and dead. Not what I was expecting. Endorphin pro2 is my only other ‘super shoe’ to compare with, which I had similar feelings with at the start but the shoe eventually bedded in after around 80 miles!

I feel the same but sky + is good But If you want the shoe all others are compared to (apart from in This video) get the vapourfly 2 you won’t regret it it’s super fast and feels alive plus just look at the feet of people at the front of races and probably 40% are in vapourflys If you have wide feet half size up from your normal running shoe size

in my normal size, vaporfly is too narrow in front but already had heel slippage so going half size up would only make heel slip worse. i really wanted to make it work, i've been wanting to try it for long time

@@gudboyngdisyerto that’s a shame did you try a runners knot to get a good lock down 🪢 . I have a wide foot and half size up perfect for me. Good thing with Nike is you can try them and send them back if they don’t work for you. Alphaflys version 1 are a little more a Accommodating and the endorphin pro 3 is supposed to be wider I haven’t got that one yet tho . Adidas are usually very narrow Addie pro 3 at least half size up if not full. Width is normally always a bit of a trouble for me in most shoes so fairly often have to size up.

that i agree. i'm not from us and here nike is the only one that accepts returns of shoes that have been worn outside. yes i tried runner's knot, i'm familiar with different lacing because i have wide forefoot and very high midfoot that is very sensitive to pressure so i cant tie the laces tight.

Interesting video. I'm wondering which of these you think would be best at slower paces mostly for half marathons. I run around 9:00 - 9:30 /mi and am using the Endorphin Pro 2 now. I tried the RC Elite V2 and really liked them but haven't been able to find a size that fits me well.

I’ve run in a few of these honestly if it suits your foot you can’t go past the alpha fly for all paces. I’m saying that I got blisters on my arch from the alpha fly and now run in the endorphin pro 3

How would you compare the edge+ and vaporfly?

They're actually fairly close. Both have an 8mm drop and a nice heel to toe motion. Vapor is a little wilder, more aggressive and feels more leg saving. Edge+ is more stable but again quite close in terms of bounce and energy return. The plate shapes are really close and that's what make them so similar imho. Hope this helps.

That would work really well! Just be aware that it’s softer and more flexible than these shoes and therefore your legs will be working differently.

4:30 this is my feeling as well, same with Tempo Next, I really like both shoes because I can just go hardcore and it probably pays off to run less gently with these when trying to go fast because I feel you get more of the air pods bounce this way ... really different from something like Endorphin Speed 2 where I feel I need to run with faster cadence and shorter stride to protect my legs and benefits from their agility ... alphafly = tank, speed 2 = motocross ? ;p

Great Video! One thing that occurred to me regarding any shoe with a carbon plate is comfort. Especially for racing shoes and the super shoes, I hear people saying that they expect to sacrifice some comfort for a faster shoe. Well I have a hard time understanding this because I personally run faster in shoes that are more comfortable. If a shoe that is designed for speed causes discomfort to my foot, Im going to run slower than a non-super shoe that has more comfort. I have tried the vast majority of super shoes this year and with the exception of the NB FC Elite and the Atreyu The Artist would/could not run more than 13 miles in any other supershoe without experiencing pain. So, I guess my question/comment is, It would make sense to me that any person would run slower in a shoe that is less comfortable, so why do these SUper Shoe?marathon ready shoes focus more on snappyness and responsivness rather than comfort? (Running in the Asics Metaspeed Sky Plus for example - tore my feet up after 10 miles so badly I had to deliberatly pronate).
