Could not disagree with you more regarding the Café Racer. They are timeless and effortlessly cool. Those "biker jackets" you are going on about take a great deal of style-sense and attitude to pull off, and definitely not for everyone.

Not sure. I'm on the thinner side -- got a cafe racer and I can't agree with Ashley more: the leather strip on the neck is extremely annoying. It also made me look kinda of squarish. Was not a fan at all

@@bluepostcards That sounds like a sizing issue. Also the quality of the leather material itself plays a big part. I own a Belstaff racing blouson that fits perfectly, and is buttery soft. I also own a Real McCoy Buco J-100 horsehide that has been broken in over a long time, and that thing molds to me like it is a part of me. Leather jacket is not a windbreaker; you have to commit to the look, and also finding the right one for you. Once you have the perfect one it will be a part for you for the rest of your life.

@@bluepostcards Go for a fitted band collar jacket, pretty much the same as a cafe racer but without the button up collar. I'm extremely thin and i got one of those, fitted, i look way more sturdy (not fat) in the shoulder area with that thing on me

I think the cafe racer is probably the most common sold jacket, most recommended by most stylist and I think the easiest to pull off by all men. The biker style is nicer looking than a racer but is not for everyone.

Love your videos in general, but I’m going to echo the sentiments of the comments you’re getting about cafe racer, it is by far the best leather jacket stylistically, especially for body types like your husband (same as mine), but as you know style is about confidence and attitude, so if someone feels better in the biker jacket, they should rock that instead, but all the same rules apply between the biker and cafe racer.

Why do you hate Cafe Racer/Moto jacket? Put on Biker jacket on the guy at 1:14 and he will look much worse. It is the guy that has bad looks but and weird way of standing which makes him look weird. haha just bought a cafe racer leather jacket like last week, honestly though, i did a bit of digging before buying it, and i thought it was the best looking one out of all of them, simple but makes a statement. Its black and i wore them this weekend for a date with grey fitted khaki jeans, my jacket is a bit loose on the shoulders but for the most part it is fitted and i think it looks good, and i have gotten compliments on the jacket as well. The little buckle on the collar can get distracting i will admit, but so can shiny zippers and too many pockets and an oversized collar. no offense to dorian, but he doesnt really pull of the leather jacket look very well, maybe he is too clean cut? idk, but i got a cafe racer jacket and then you release this video haha

I really dont like café racer style jackets, but yet, amusingly enough, I have one plum colour café racer style jacket that I have been getting compliments on since high-school (good quality jackets seem to last forever.) and yet, typically, I would agree that they aren't typically a great choice of jacket. Side note: Awesome videos. Love watching them, seen a dozen or so of them today alone (Sundays are always slow days for me), each video is just as good as the last. Keep being awesome! Cheers!

You are way out of your element here. You show little knowledge of different styles of leather jackets. Your opinions are yours and you are entitled to them but you are coming from a fashion perspective. You like stylized leather jackets not genuine historically correct or functional pieces. Basically, there are two categories of leathers, the fashion jackets and the real stuff. You can pick one without downing the other as they are different animals entirely.

thank you. These people are pretty good with stuff that doesn't concern entirely sub cultures but as soon as something a little more complex shows up, their lack of substance shows. If you ride and you don't wear bulky armored jackets, you are an idiot. If you casually stroll to the grocery store in an armored piece, you are a sweaty idiot. They should defo educate themselves more on these subjects. Also, these guys are super safe. I can strongly claim that if you are reasonably fit, a cafe racer will go with anything from ripped jeans to dress trousers. I will go as far as saying you can mix a double rider with dress trousers if you have the audacity to roll with it. And to say you need muscle to wear leather is a very questionable claim from a fashion standpoint as 1 Heroine chic is a thing and 2 modern leather jackets are a lot slimmer so you know they want that slim aesthetic.

I stretched my budget too, good advice, and glad I did, normally pick up coats ie jackets overcoats etc at the thrift/2nd hand shops for about 8-10 dollars, but they had a nieman marcus house brand vintage bomber styke but w a flapped collar [the look of the label made me think prob from 80s or early 90s] one w The most incredible wear and distress [but not damaged] patterns for 19 dollars last fall, bought it in a heart beat along w a 2nd vintage jcpenny brand new old stock double breasted safari/short trench [to just below waist] navy suede number for 12 bucks, it was the best 31 dollars I spent last season.

Gibson and Barnes makes the best and highest quality leather jackets in my opinion.....A little pricey but you get what you pay for.....Mine is a "Civilian G-1" and looks like the day I bought it more than 15 years ago. NEVER buy a cheap leather jacket.....cheap ALWAYS looks cheap!!!! I always get complimented on my jacket and my son will to when he is my age wearing it. Navy pilots usually give their "issue" jacket to their girlfriend....then buy a Gibson and Barnes for themselves!!! 😉👍🙂

I think leather jackets should make a statement. Once you are choosing anodyne examples that are so subdued and robbed of character as the ones shown, you might as well not bother trying to rock one. As an example, the most iconic biker jacket is the Schott Perfecto, the over the top styling and hardware, the badass look, and the extreme proportions are what made it so popular at so many times over its history. There are lots of variations that respect the history of the biker jacket, with D pockets, various zips, belts or no belts, etc., all of them more interesting and stylish than these examples that are so diluted and so many generations away from the original styles that gave them the rep and style in the first place. Just my opinion, but if you are going to wear a thin supple black leather jacket, there are so many better options than a fake-ass bland version of a motorcycle one. There is a long history of amazing American and UK leather jackets, almost none of which were not described or shown here. Half belt styles, café racer styles, depression era through the 40s and 50s, so many incredibly stylish jackets that will get you noticed and make you stand out, but that take some real style and confidence to wear, but that will remain in style for decades to come, unlike these which will look outdated in 5 years. Basically I'm saying, if you're going to wear leather, own it and make it work, it's easy to do if you find one that suits your body shape, fits correctly, and is well made with top quality leather, whatever shade of brown, black, grey, green tan, even maroon or white, etc. Don't wimp out. BTW, one of the most iconic looks of all time is the Perfecto with Converses, and a white tee. You might look like a Ramone, but gabba gabba hey, is that really a bad thing? BTW I'm 55 and I wear a classic short black half bet jacker in thick cowhide, I found it in a vintage shop, it was made in Canada in the '70s, looks close to the jackets made in horsehide in the 30s, just two slash pockets and a shirt collar, nothing else, and nothing else I wear gets more attention or compliments. Go for it and own it, leather isn't for playing it safe (and black hardware on a biker jacket makes it look like a cheap fake leather jacket, just saying). Vintage style brands? Look for Aero, Schott, Real McCoys, Lost World, Orvis, Iron & Resin, Frye, etc. If you want to go modern All Saints, Reiss, Belstaff, Taylor Stitch, Saint Laurent, Johnston & Murphy, Abercrombie & Fitch, etc. All are making badass standout men's leather jackets that will own the ones shown here. And don't forget field jackets and jacket shirts!

AW couldn't be more wrong with the Cafe Racer. This jacket is the best all around and has the cleanest look. Bomber is fine if you like it but I find the elastic wristbands are awkward with a watch. Plus you'll need to be careful if you're a huskier man as the elastic waist band will give you a terrible muffin top look. Finally the biker jacket is really only for the few guys who know how to rock street style otherwise it looks gaudy on the average dude.

They are cutting leather jackets smaller. I am an XL and a good quality XL fits me perfectly. I went to Macy's and needed a 2XL. Cheap!

I highly recommend leathers from all saints, they are known for their high quality leathers and you can fine them on sale for a steal (under $300). I have been wearing mine for about 5 years and it just looks better with age.

Thanks for the video. I've seen many men to wear something like a bomber but without elastic bands - minimalist, no flashy zippers, shirt-like collar, sometimes buttons instead of/above the front zipper - as a formal style, e.g. over a suit jacket. Of course, only outdoors and especially at some serious events, such as weddings, funerals etc. when a solid, minimalist leather jacket can look very formal and much more serious than any other kind of overcoat. A trench coat can also look serious but it's kinda out of fashion for younger folks and also might look weird on shorter guys. I'm 40 now and because of my genetic health issues I'm somewhat short (174cm) and thin at my shoulders, so I thought that maybe a somewhat more formal leather jacket might make me look more serious, but at the same time I'm afraid to get the looks totally wrong and look like a tomboy or a boy in his father's jacket.

I have a brown cafe racer jacket that fits like a glove. But I’m athletic with a somewhat muscular build so maybe skinny guys can’t pull it off? It’s gotten me soooo many compliments. I think I want a black leather biker style jacket next though.

Is David Beckham the minimum in how muscular you must be to look good in a motocross racer jacket (No offense to David Beckham. He's lean athlete not a body builder)? My favorite leather jacket is Aaron Marino's cognac racer jacket he got from coach, but if I have to be buff like him to make it look good, then I might go for another look.
