I have 4 out of 5 of these (I don’t have that extending Joby). One important one that you left out is the Switchpod. I use the Switchpod for handheld. I added a ballhead with an arca swiss mount, and it’s perfect. My little Manfrotto tripods are now used for gimbals, action cams, etc, and my Gorillapod collects dust.

Great review Matti. I've been using the Gorilla Pod and you're right, it becomes weak. I have the Pixi Evo Mini too, it's good for vlogging because it's light and easy to setup/hold, but it's too short to put on your desk to film your face (Gorilla Pod is the perfect height for this). Gotta have both, unfortunately. PS. I don't know much about colour grading, but in the last two videos, your skin tones are looking a little orange on my screen (no hate, just letting you know).

The tripods that come with the zhiyun gimbals are honestly my favourite, can always add a ball head if needed. The one that comes with the Crane 3s is a beast

What a coincidence, I recently just started vlogging and Ive just ordered a manfrotto pixi mini. I think its the biggest bang for you buck. easy to use, ball head included. Pair that with a quick release and your good to go.

During my 45 years in photography, I've had more tripods and support gizmos than any other photo accessory. Well other than bags, but those don't really count, do they? (kicking them back as they roll out of my closet) The best little tripod thing I've used so far is the Sirui 3T-15 (www.siruiusa.com/index/photographic/sr3t15.html?cid=2&id=69). Sorry for the US link, not sure about their Canada HQ. This pod is magical! It's super small, super strong, and super light. How do they do all that at once??? It's also pretty inexpensive so that's a win across the board! Check it out, I think you'll like it.

TL;DR - my Switchpod with QR ballhead is my favourite. With a G7/G85: Leg broke off my Pixi mini. Gorillapod just didn't balance nicely as a tripod, is great for handholding, but height adjustability isn't as good as I hoped. It still flops over, so not as useful as it could be. With my a7iii: Switchpod with a neewer ballhead that has a QR clamp. I like that I can hold it angling away from me for more presenting to camera without stretching my arm out, and holding it angled toward me for recording others. If the legs could somehow move up/down or in/out, that could solve the height issue, but it's way more useful than the gorillapod just because I can trust it to hold my camera. Then I have the same ballhead/qr clamp on a fat gecko for my car to make it easy for mounting there. and my camera has the PD Capture plate. I think the problem with a proper tripod like the PD (especially with such wide legs at the top) is that it's not easy to handhold for vlogging purposes. Setting it up for impromptu videos of our kids is a little disingenuous as a downside, as a little camera shake from handholding isn't an issue for those moments.

You’re right. No one thinks about the setup. It’s terrible now whenever I watch a movie on Netflix or Prime, I’m stopping the movie and telling her about how they had to set up the cameras, shoot, setup the cameras again, etc etc. The amount of setup you have to do per shot is huge. Most mini tripods fail either with stability in the legs or with the head. I have some Oben mini tripod thing.... but the game changer was when I put the Joby head on it after I got fed up with the Joby Tripod. I have a lot of respect for that head...

Sorry, Matti... gotta call BS re: the mini tripod vs Joby. It takes longer to get a GorillaPod to stand properly than it does the mini tripod. Keeping in mind the Joby is less than a foot high... if you just spread the three legs of the tripod and set it down, you're DONE. It only takes longer if you want to extend the legs for a higher angle, which is something you don't even get an option for on the Joby. If you want the same height you get with the Joby, it literally takes less than a second to spread the tripod legs. I use a Manfrotto Compact Advanced (a MUCH cheaper option than the Peak Design) and it's at least as quick as a GorillaPod, but MUCH more stable.

what if a company took a job pod with some form of quick release system that unlocked all of the different little modules of the job legs and then once it was in place you tighten a nob on the side to "stiffen" all those individual sections. I dont know how but I feel like that would fix all the issues while still accommodating this on the go style Vlogging.

I cannot afford much, the Manfrotto Pixi mini, Jobie Gorilla Pod 5k, iFootage Gazelle (TC-7? with acratech pano head that I borrow) is all I use, and own only the pixie and another beaten up K&F concept... The Manfrotto Pixi mini for it's price is unbeatable! Great for vlogging, holds a Canon eos 70d with battery grip and a 15-35mm L with no issues.
