I have a new 2021 Sienna and love it! We spent several months researching vans and found the Chrysler to be over priced and forums stating all sorts of issues with the plug in hybrid system. The Kia carnival was our other top choice but it gets around 19 mpg in real life daily driving and with gas prices on the rise we really wanted fuel efficiency. Toyota is a super reliable brand and once we test drove it I could not sell my POS Ford Explorer fast enough. It's so quiet, so comfortable and the super slide seats are amazing. I have a newborn with a gigantic rear facing car seat, my husband can have his seat all the way back and there's still a half foot of room between him and the baby. My older son is front facing and sits comfortably behind me. Neither was possible in our SUV. Averaging 35.4 MPG!

We just bought a 2020 Explorer. Traded our 2014 Durango (which was paid off and never had an issue). The Explorer is awful. Jerky, awful braking, up shifting/down shifting is rough…it’s a piece of junk. We are looking to go back to a Chrysler product ASAP and have a second child on the way. Thinking it’s van time. Pacifica. But will have to look at the Sienna as well.

@@jasonweidman2614 Good luck. I did my research and wanted a Sienna. Local dealer said they aren't taking orders but I can put $1K down and agree to pay $5K over MSRP for whatever they happen to get in, which will probably be over a year. I said no thanks. Chrysler dealer would be able to order with a 60-90 day wait but wanted $8K over MSRP. Uh, no. Used ones are going for more than new in some cases. Probably end up driving our Town & Country into the ground I guess.

Was a toss up between the Kia Carnival and Chrysler Pacifica for us. However, Kia dealers wanted $5k above MSRP for the SX Prestige trim. The Chrysler dealer gave us $2.5K off. That, and the $7.5K additional Fed Tax savings, fuel savings on the Hybrid and comparable feature set made us swing the Pacifica Hybrid Limited way. Kia and Hyundai are sister company, meaning used the same engine and electrical parts. If anything happens, expect a long wait from Korea. Seen many and I mean many Hyundai and Kia (used to work for both of them) in the service department parking waiting for new engine or electrical parts from Korea. Glad you made the right choice. Wish you did get the new Sienna. They have a strong and a good Hybrid system. Same older model being used like their Highlanders, RAV4, Camry and even Corolla hybrid. That says alot for reliability.

Recently had a 2022 Pacifica as a rental. 16K miles. Smart Cruise Control would randomly disengage, which took out the normal CC, and automatic braking. Though when it was available, if a car in the lane next to me would brake, the van would unexpectedly hard brake to a stop. Also when stopping (like at a light) under light to medium braking, at the very end of the brake, the van would surge forward, needing me to push the brake pedal harder, making a smooth stop impossible.

I was looking for a van this year and I was very excited about Sienna with its hybrid drive. In real life I was quite happy about its dynamics, but ... the design and implementation of rear seats and everything behind front seats seemed poorly made, especially when looking from the back lift-gate. I felt the rear interior design was an afterthought to the power train for $50K, which I could not stomach. In the end I went for top of the line Odyssey. Ideally I would love to see Odyssey interior with Sienna's hybrid powertrain and its efficiency.
@DSPNWtoCali
@DSPNWtoCali 3 жыл бұрын
Good luck with that, Honda are know to have issue with their power train as overall value. Toyota been using the same engine and drivetrain for the Sienna. I do hope your Odyssey is reliable as you think. This is the problem with car manufacturers and consumers, buy into features and interior quality(like you said), but knowing that Toyota been in the game with their Hybrid vehicles this long and to decided to put it on a Sienna will tell you about their quality. Well unless you leasing the Odyssey than goodluck otherwise. I do like the Pacifica for it feature but not knowing their engineering of their Hybrid is enough to choose Sienna.

@@DSPNWtoCali Toyota is using brand new drive train for 2021. And as I have said, I wanted to like it, but their design of rear part of the van feels like a cheap afterthought for $50K. For $30K I would think about reliability and close my eyes on the design, but for $50K I just could not do it.

I agree about the third row seat in the Sienna. It seemed cheap and very uncomfortable for an adult, hard, short cushion and my head brushed the roof. Third row in a minivan should be comfortable... I have a 2013 Odyssey and the third row is comfortable, so I don't know what Toyota's excuse is. Also, having a minivan that I can't put anything really big in because the middle seats don't come out defeats most of the reason for me to get a minivan!!! I'd like to check out the Carnival... but hard to find one to look at.

I own the Honda Odyssey for more than 4 years and it's good for the most part. The only real issue is the transmission. There is power delivery hesitation at low speeds and jerks sometimes. The other issue is that the Odyssey seems to guzzle gas. I can only get like 18 mpg most of the time. I went to Lake Tahoe a few times already and it's good on some ice / snow with tire chains. I am thinking of switching to the Sienna for the AWD and hybrid powertrain. The non-removable second row is really kind of a deal breaker. I carry lots of stuff sometimes and need to remove the second row. I rented the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica with around 30K miles this year in Maui and it felt like a 10+ year old high mileage vehicle. The whole vehicle felt very unrefined and was squeaking constantly with the bumps. There was so much road and engine noise in the cabin. The rear AC didn't work at all in the hot humid Maui weather. The only good thing about the Pacifica was that it had good power delivery with no hesitation. All the controls and how everything operates just feels unrefined and cheap. When I got back to my home airport parking and drove off in my Odyssey, I was surprised how quiet and refined it is. A week in the rental Pacifica really changed my perception on my own minivan at home.

Here this, Sienna Hybrid been on other Models prior, so that says alot about their Hybrid(I agree). Odyssey has never caught my eye when comparing reliability to Toyota. I definitely will choose Pacifica as my 2nd choice because of the Hybrid. However not knowing too much about their Hybrid and I still place them 2nd. Odyssey for 3rd. Carnival, hahaha, expect your van to be at the service department for sometime due to electrical issue and engine issue. Used to work for both and to get a radio to work well, well expect months to have it fixed. Probably in line due to other Carnival having the same issues. For engine, well, expect 3-4 months on the engine, by then expect another 2-3 weeks for it to go in and work on. I seen and heard from customers that brought theirs Hyundai and Kia in or towed in. If you want reliability without sacrificing much quality or feature, best bet is the Sienna. Sure, things I can live without but you want less trip into the dealership for some stupid small stuff and of course big one where you have to continue to make payments while your Kia at the shop still. Smh. People get real and be real, your hard earn money into someone else pocket isn't it for me.

Good luck with your engine, electrical issue and months waiting for parts. By then, you may end up not driving the van for months and while you still making payments to the dealership. Used to work for Hyundai and Kia, and this is all I hear from customers. Piece of junk vehicles. Better to lease then own. Here a story of 2 customers and many I heard, one with electrical issue and the other with engine problem. Both of those vehicles have to wait 3-4 months for the engine and one piece electric from Korea. Customers of this both still have to make payments and their vehicle at the parking lot for several months. If that is what you want, expect this. I don't recommend Kia, unless you plan to lease and let it go, great choice but never buy them. Their marketing tactic on the 10 years 100,000 miles warranty is perfect for foolish people with money. Pacifica is a minivan trying to also be a cargo van. Unless you are in the trades and trying to get 1 vehicle to double for work/family, spare your kids from the compact unsupportive seats and rent a truck/van for about $26 in 7 years or remove the middle row. Most of the major publications that have had long-term review Pacificas have also had endless issues, especially with the hybrid version. I was surprised to see you rank the Pacifica at number one....or even the top three. Chrysler's reliability, especially long term, is absolutely, without a doubt the worst of the minivans tested and really over all, some of the worst in the automotive industry. They sure are good looking vehicles packed with options but good luck getting 100k miles out of one without major problems, if that. I guess reliability isn't too important when you're not the one buying the thing. If I'm gonna drop $40k on a vehicle I intend on keeping it for quite some time. I don't know one person who has been happy with any Chrysler product for any sort of long term. We're beginning to look at minivans as I'm likely going to end up in a power chair if out and about for more than an hour or so. As I get older that is becoming more and more of a likelihood. I won't even go look at a Chrysler. We'll probably end up with the Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna. We'll definitely give the Kia a look. Their quality over the past decade has really taken off and that warranty is unbeatable. We've owned a few Toyotas over the years, currently have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma and they've all been wonderful, problem free vehicles. Our friend who travels for work A LOT has a 2013 Toyota Sienna with almost 250k miles. He drives his vehicles til their wheels practically fall off. His previous minivan was a 2001 Toyota Sienna that had almost 300k miles on it. Other than regular, routine maintenance, both his 03 and his 13 were and still are absolutely trouble free. The only real reason he got the 13 was because it's so much bigger than his 03. Kinda funny story to prove my point. He was in a minor accident which did some cosmetic damage to his Sienna. While it was being repaired he was given, guess what, a Chrysler Pacifica as a rental. He had to take it about 550 miles away for a business trip he had to attend to and wouldn't be back for a week. The Pacifica was only a year old with under 10k miles. He made it to his destination but had the check engine light come on about half way to his destination. It seemed to be running fine and the rental agency said to just go ahead, continue on and they'd address it when he returned it. About half way home, all of the dash lights came on and it died before he could pull over on the interstate, at about 11pm. He got towed to the nearest town with a service center and spent the night at a motel. The next morning he tried to start it and it was dead in the water. He got towed to the service center where he learned the ECM (the brain of the vehicle) was shot. Being there wasn't a location for the rental agency where he was, he agreed to stay while they replaced the ECM. It was repaired that day and he continued on his way home. About 50 miles from home the tranny started shifting erratically at times red lining the engine for no reason. Keep in mind this is basically a brand new minivan. He didn't feel safe driving it anymore. He pulled off the interstate at the next exit and called the rental agency who came and got him, towed the minivan back and got him back to his almost ten year old Sienna with a quarter of a million miles on it. He said he had never been so happy to see it. He's still driving it all over the country without a worry in the world. It's never let him down. I also know people who have had Honda Odysseys that just go forever with very few of any major problems outside of routine maintenance. I can't think of any vehicle that I've ever heard of needing major maintenance or repairs in their first year with less than 10k miles except that Pacifica as well as other Chrysler products. If VW still made a minivan I'd take it over a Chrysler and VW's are also known for garbage reliability. Maybe next time you review and rate a vehicle, keep reliability in mind. This is the last review I'll watch of yours as I don't trust your judgment.

Agree! We have a Chrysler Town & Country (2008) and it would take me too long to list all the problems we had with it. Right now the check engine light is on all the time (except for 1 day every two years to have it smog checked) and no one seems to be able to find the problem. The transmission is rough as guts and keeps going into limp mode at which time I have to park it, turn off the engine and restart. Wipers come on automatically and that would be OK if we had rain censing wipers, but we don't. One thing is for sure, if we buy another minivan, it won't be a Chrysler!

Now her parents own a ‘15 T&C and it’s not as bad with the 6-speed but it has the same gutless engine. My company has a ‘19 Odyssey and it drives much better! I don't know where you come off calling the Sienna "ultra slow". Did you do any instrumented tests? Every comparo test I've seen where they actually test the vehicles' dynamics, it's right in mid pack. I think you owe it to your readers to be a little more objective where possible. Opinion is fine but certain things can be measured. This way you won't get it wrong and look silly.

I don't like hybrids, so that cancels out the Sienna right away, I will never buy another Chrysler after having so much trouble with our Town & Country, Honda Odyssey is under powered and I don't like the styling. That leaves the Kia Carnival, a non-hybrid which has a powerful 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6 engine, no useless start stop feature, and in my humble opinion, has the best styling of all minivans. I love the way it looks more like an SUV. Go Kia!

Big problem though, Pacifica would have lots of issues very soon, and their resale value drops drastically. Unlike Toyota that could sell for a high price still. Parts of Toyota sienna is way cheaper to replace compared to Honda, and durability wise, topnotch (even when compared to Kia and Chrysler, and other brands you could think of).

Had a 2020 odyssey and it was full of problems, the transmission sucked and the infotainment system also had all kinds of problems, now I have a 22 sienna and it’s far superior than the odyssey. I work at a used car dealership and can tell from experience that the Chrysler product will go downhill after one or two years of use . The Kia is ok but not there yet . #1 sienna #2 odyssey #3 Kia #4 Pacifica

If you want unproven hybrid versus the proven Hybrid like Toyota then goodluck. Even then Kia and Hyundai customer have to wait days for their vehicle to be service. Kia and Hyundai are the worst when getting your Vehicle back into customers hand. I know all of this because I used to work for their department service for Hyundai and Kia. I hear all sort of stories. Even their latest and newest electric/hybrid vehicle, the Ion. Their Santa Fe been having multiple issue on their current one. Their Kia are same if you haven't notice, Hyundai and Kia have the same engine and electrical parts. Goodluck thinking Kia will offer you reliability. Their tactic in marketing sold you. 10 years warranty are to make people like you and past customers them money. For every loan each Hyundai and Kia loan out, they can buy more vehicle from Korea. With current economy, not worth Hyundai and Kia overprice vehicles. Why they have to import them in and this past down to consumers. Whatever you decide goodluck. Again I used to work for Hyundai and Kia and have the inside information. They pay me to shut up about this stuff. How will they know who I am with this account. Lol.

Can't trust these company's reviews they are usually paid off by the manufacturer. Test drive all and I can assure you the Kia Carnival and the Chrysler Pacifica will be the two top brands at your list.. Toyota owner here and millionaire... Hands down Kia Carnival is the best most luxurious feeling and driving MPV... Everything is top notch.. I test drove the Toyota Sienna and it had the worst driving experience with 1980s grainy back up camera... There hybrid powered drive train is unrefined and shudders on takeoff and when hitting the brakes... I was underwhelmed and disappointed as the Sienna was my 1st choice guy being a toyota guy. Kia man they are best and I never thought I would ever say that... 1.Carnival 2. Pacifica 3.Oddesy 4. Sienna

The hybrid drivetrain, at the wheels, puts out as much HP as a V6. It's amazing how much power the drivetrain delivers when you are only spinning a planetary gear. The V6, meanwhile, is driving all accessories and going through a relatively inefficient automatic transmission, resulting in approx 50HP lost between the crankshaft and the rear wheels.

I disagree with basing so much of where a vehicle is placed on your list based on the vehicles technology. The non hybrid Pacifica comes in all-wheel drive which makes it far more competitive in this segment for those of us that live in the northern states. I would go as far as to say that it's a plus over the technology packages. When you have snow on top of ice, I think it's a bit more important being able to get to your designation safely than being able to "FAM" view your kids while they stream bluey in hi definition.....just saying.
