Hey, I recently saw on a forum that you can redistribute the down back to the center baffles as they end up on the outside ones. Any tips for this process? Where is the internal opening between the baffles located (EE Revelation 2016). Would much appreciate your input. Cheers
@cheri7828
@cheri7828 3 жыл бұрын
On mine, they are in the foot box baffles in the center of the quilt. Its not obvious. If you pinch some down and try to scooch it from one row to the next you can do so. The baffle is sewn on the top but not the bottom. The opening seems to be no more than 1.5 to 2.0 inches wide. Its at each row in the foot box. I move the down towards the footbox, then sideways in the horizontal foot box baffles to the center. Then start pinching and gently tuck it under the opening. Sorry, very hard to explain.

Not a slight against the company because I think made by hand in the US gear is the way to go and I LOVE supporting companies like this... I simply cant justify the price when I don’t like quilts. The convert seems cool but I really like the hood on the mummy design. I wish you guys made traditional mummy bags too... EDIT: Thinking about it I wouldn’t mind that quilt design as an inner layer to a modular sleep system but I just can’t stomach $400-500 for that functionality. Just seems like lost demographic and lost profits not including 1 option for something like a center zip mummy that can be flipped around, hood folded back and act as a quilt. Anyway I dream...

Luke , I have an Enlightened blanket, love it, no issues. I bought the blanket because I get a bit claustrophobic. It is much better than fleece, wool and cotton. I have tried them all every night of this strange winter in Texas. The Enlightened blanket is 800 fill, 20 degree and wins, hands down. Texas

I have the Convert and couldn’t be more pleased! Loved being able to select every aspect of the quilt and having the versatility to use it as a bag when needed. It is well worth the money! My one wish (and this is nitpicking) is I would’ve loved to have the option of a two-way zipper - one that I could open from the bottom when zipped to my chin.

I tried the EE Revelation 20° over a 4 year period, I took it on a PCT and CDT section hikes in the spring and numerous backpacking trips in the Rocky Mountains above 11K in the summer, it didn't work for me. I got tired of being cold. To get this quilt in a configuration for me (20° Long/XWide) it comes to 33oz. I just ordered a Western Mountaineering Megalite 30° (Overstuffed to 20° Long) that comes to 27 oz for a full sleeping bag that can also be used as a quilt with a footbox.

THANKS FOR SPOTTING THIS USA COMPANY and for testing this product. As an Olde Timer, my view is that convertible products, like the Swagman Roll and the like, mark a major step forward in camping equipment. This is particularly beneficial for down-filled items or items that are filled with other easily compressible materials. Your choice of specifications is just what I would do (except I am short.) Bags without collars are not so comfortable in cold weather.

I bought a Thermarest Quasar 0° for this winter, but have had my eye especially on Enlightened Equipment Enigma quilt, maybe a 50° wide to go over the sleeping bag in super cold conditions. Certainly considering this one you showed as an alternate or as a future upgrade, if needed. You still have a great channel and I appreciate your work.

I like Enlightened Equipment. I bought my wife and I 30 degree Revelation Apex quilts. The versatility and temperature ranges of quilts are pretty hard to beat. Not too cold? Use it like a comforter. Colder? Cinch it around your sleeping pad for extra warmth. Good stuff! I also want to invest in some down quilts as well and will be getting them from... you guessed it! Enlightened Equipment.

I've got an EE Revelation 20, 950FP 10/10 denier (green/gray) in L/W with draft collars; it weighs in at 1.8lb with stuff sack. Your short/regular weighs the same and the reason is the weight of the zipper on yours. I was reluctant to get a quilt due to draft worries, however I've discovered that's a non-issue and I stay quite a bit warmer with it set up as a quilt (which is a footbox formed and strapped to the pad). Having it all the way open is 'blanket' mode. The ability to kick my legs out if wanted is amazing. IMO it is too warm at anything above 50F, and after using this thing, I placed an order for a second EE quilt which is a Revelation 40F spec'd the same as my 20F version (but different colors). I can combine these if I want for extreme cold. I also own a Zenbivy 10 quilt and sheet... which are AMAZING as well, though are a little bulkier since they're 800FP vs the EE's 950fp down. I'm a cold sleeper. I hate that I am, but it is what it is. I have a Durston X-Mid2 (and a 1) that I took camping last weekend where it dipped down to 20F here in Colorado Springs up in the mountains. I also took the Zenbivy setup. I paired the EE20 with my also new NEMO Tensor EC (R-value of 8.5), and paired the Zenbivy10 system with my EXPED 7R. At 20F the EE20 was a touch cool for me, but plenty comfortable, even for this cold pansy. I credit much of that to using the Tensor EC which was absolutely spectacular. The Tensor EC rivaled the EXPED 7R for comfort and it was very quiet. The Tensor was very slightly warmer than my EXPED, but not quite as comfortable. At the coldest part of the night I moved to the Zenbivy, which was warmer as expected since it has a comfort limit rating of 10F. The EE20 has a comfort limit rating of 20F as you'd expect, and that seems to be dead-on, even for this cold sleeper. The Zenbivy is next-level comfortable, and I do prefer it, however I'd say that for most of my adventures I'd likely take the EE as they're so much lighter and pack smaller. You can modify them to work with the Zenbivy sheets, which are really where the magic is anyway; the hood... soooo good. In any event, I agree with your assessment that the quality is excellent. I like that it is handmade in the US. It is warmer than you'd expect. It is an exceptional piece of gear and really, the price difference between this and far inferior products isn't all that great, particularly when you account for packability and weight savings.

I'm researching gear now, my default was down mummy. When I plugged in my weights, ugh! I had to get my base down. I gave quilts another look and found one with most of the same features but priced within my budget. No draft tubes but I think I can live with that because at home, I sleep under a regular, synthetic quilt. I had to get over the mental block of not having a cocoon and the reasonable option is a convertible. I'll be linking this vid when I do a shakedown. Thank You!

Impressed with the water resistance and the weight. Not so much the bulk but then it is rectangular with a zip rather than mummy shaped. I've watched many of your reviews over the last couple of months and you always climb in to whichever sleeping bag fully clothed. In my mind this would slew the results as to whether the sleeping bag is up to the rating. I use a Marmot Hydrogen and Golite Adrenaline 20 and both are on the money when it comes to their rating in base layers only.

Thank you Luke for this review. I have been following your channel for some time but none of the reviews that I have seen so far are the types of equipment that I would use. I purchased an enlightened equipment revelation quilt second hand last fall. I've been very happy with it. I wish your review had come out before I purchased that quilt. I had wondered if it was going to be worth the money or not. I see lots of people in the backpacking world choosing enlightened equipment but very few unbiased reviews. Please continue to review the cottage industry backpacking equipment. There are many other buzzword pieces of equipment that I would like an honest review on. Just because everybody uses it doesn't mean it's good or worth the money.

Luke, I’m confused. You mentioned in your two previous videos about the LiteFighter tent and this one that you came back to the tent and found a pool of water on the sleeping bag that had yet to penetrate the material. In the “LiteFighter Responds” video, at the 2:44 mark, you state, “once I saw how badly the tent was leaking, I decided to bail, because everything was soaking wet, including my sleeping bag. My sleeping bag was absolutely soaked through and through. There was a puddle on top of it...I mean, there was so much water that already absorbed into it, that I had to leave.” In this video, at 3:20 you talk about this sleeping bag having “one of the most impressive water repellent finishes I have ever seen.” Call me simple, but I’m getting two different messages from you regarding how repellent this bag is. Before I send $500+ buck on this, I’d like to know.

I would gather that if the water repellent coating wasn't effective, it wouldn't have pooled up and beaded like it did. At the end of the day, any water repellent coating will soak through given enough time and volume of water.

We got my girlfriend the Enlightenment Equipment Conundrum 20 to replace a heavy synthetic bag with a similar temperature rating, and she absolutely loves it. It's similar to the Convert, as it's a hybrid sleeping bag/quilt, only difference is it has a sewn-in foot box. Since she's had it she's been incredibly warm, and even more importantly to her - it packs down super easy and super small. She used to have to really crank on her synthetic bag to get it into a stuff sack, but the Conundrum takes her much less time and effort. Overall an absolutely excellent product, and tbh I'm a little jealous of her bag now lol.

I have the EE Enigma 20 deg quilt. I like it a lot , especially for my hammock. However, even though I got the wide, I found it a little to narrow for sleeping on the ground when it is near freezing temperatures. I like my wider (60") UGQ XL Bandit quilt more for colder weather on the ground - Also, their dynamic tensioning system works quite well at eliminating drafts.

Hi Luke. My wife is a bit confused, In this video at about time stamp 3:20 you stated that you had a pool of water in the center of the bag that did not absorb into the bag BUT in the video "LiteFighter Responds - LiteFighter Catamount 2 Tent Update (Recall)" at about time stamp 2:40 you stated that your sleeping bag was soaked thru and thru. My question is: did you have the pool of water in the center of the bag that did not absorb due to the bag being saturated and the bag couldn't hold any more water, OR did the water repellant stop additional water from being absorbed? I attempted to tell her that the sleeping bag is water repellant NOT water proof and if it was water proof it would be like being in a Mylar or plastic bag.

I use the Enlightened Equipment Enigma and Revelation Quilts throughout the year in the mountains of Scotland, had temps down to minus 10 Celsius with no problems. There is a knack to using a quilt but once you figure them out and use them as they are supposed to be used then you will have no problems. The good things with quilts is you can even wrap them around you whilst cooking unlike having to sit inside a sleeping bag and be fixed in one position. Their weight is unbelievably light, at first I thought I had been 'stitched up' , sorry for the pun.

I have the convert custom as well, but I went with different color schemes and lengths (wide/long) in the -10⁰/950FP configuration. Have had it going on 3 years now and it is still to date the top peice of gear I own. The loft is incredible, and just like you, I've taken this thing down to below its temperature designation and still have been warm (-15 F). I will say though, the price for the same metrics that I got mine at now comes out to over $700 when I paid right about $500 3 years ago. Still, it has been a continuing staple for me out here in the Artic Northwest.

I decided to go for an EE quilt because of all the positive reviews. So I recently bought the revelation 31 comfort/21 extreme. I am a warm sleeper so thought this would be ample for my next trip - the Lake District mountains in the UK. Temperatures dropped to 33F and it was NOT comfort, no way. I had to wear my thermals, socks, hat, socks and fleece. Have to say I am pretty pissed off with their temperature rating, given I consider myself a warm sleeper. I like the bag a lot but it was simply not good enough for the conditions. Bloody expensive outlay as I also had to import for the States.

For those that want a hood, EE sells a hoodlum. It’s a hood that works with their quilts. You can select how warm you want it to be. It also works as a warm hat. Synthetic insulation so it’s tolerant of getting wet if you’re using it as a hat. It also allows you to wash the part of your sleep system that gets soiled the worst without having to wash the whole bag.

Luke, you paid for a quality product and it was very evident as you displayed it. Let's see, you're 5'4" and I'm 5'7"...hmmm, it would fit me. I'll order the "Luke version" and maybe a little extra length. That price you paid is a fair price. I have a friend who does nothing but through-hikes and he paid almost $700 for his sleeping bag/quilt but he is 6'2". He is out on the west coast and is preparing for the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) by training in the Sierras near June Lake Loop (Mammoth area). Like other experienced through-hikers, his biggest investments were his backpack, sleeping bag and his tent. I believe you own the Hilleberg Nammatj; he bought a Nammatj 2 custom version (made to his specifications). I believe if American consumers support more American companies this would encourage them to manufacture more quality products. Well done, Luke!

I bought one of the 40 degree synthetic top quilts for trips on the water (saltwater and down are not a good combination). Great design and quality. A bit pricey and their lead times for custom orders is to the point where you might want to order it the year before you need it. I think mine took over three months from the time I ordered it until I got it. Don't order a winter item in the winter or a spring item in the spring. It won't show up in time for you to use it that year. Their zippers are a bit finicky, but that is a trade off for weight.

DWR treatment-Interesting observation & comment about the product's ability to NOT ABSORB water as well as its weight to warmth ratio. Indeed, its versatility puts it into a class of its own.

I've got the EE revelation 30F that I use as a summer and desert( I'm in Utah) quilt. I too was amazed at how the outer fabric keeps the down dry, The convert looks like a good choice for a mountain bag that could be versatile enough for my climate...

Good timing, I'm looking for a bag/quilt right now! I am also glad that they offer synthetic fill, which I prefer over down because it is more affective in wetter climates

Did you get one? How is it? The shoulder seasons, in the BC coast mountains, are very wet, and cold. I’m also worried about a damp down bag, at 2am.

I got my convert last September and use it almost every weekend, I'm not a fan of the zipper but other then that I really love everything else about the bag, usually i just use it in quilt mode strapped to my sleeping pad and it has worked great. mine is also a 20 degree and I've used it down to that and been quite comfortable. This was my very first quilt I was not sure how I was going to like a quilt but it turned out great, if only they had a better zipper option.

I'm an AT Section Hiker (from Amicalola Falls/Springer Mtn, GA up thru mid-state NY. I have the Enlighted Equipment Eniqma QUILT (40 Degree - 850 Down - Long & Wide - 17 Ounces = $280). Temps down to 45 degree are no problem...temps lower then I switch out to a Mummy Bag. One NEGATIVE is...with Quilts in general...when the temps start dropping then you need something to wear on your head (as the Mummy Bag usually keeps your head warm). Two-Thumbs up from me - LIGHT and COMPACTIBLE...I would purchase this product again.

In your footage sleeping outside, you had a "outer bag on the outside of the sleeping bag": doesnt that affect its temperature rating? What is the name of that product? My point being... your review didnt reflect the performance of just the sleeping bag itself?

I would say in that footage it would clearly be colder than he said. So the temp ranges seem legitimate

I have a short list of US cottage vendors that I trust implicitly. EE is one of them. Hammock Gear, EE, ZPacks, Dutchware, Warbonnett, Loco Libre, UGQ, ULA, Firebox ... all make great products. Worth the money, and often priced less than the brand alternatives (Big Agnes, MSR, etc.).
