From a story perspective the Sheriff was once a real good friend of Johns; but as he got older he started to chicken out and get intimidated by the threats being faced. He starts to redeem himself by the time of his death and goes out trying to help people like a true sheriff.

That was such a tragic & sad way for Donnie to go. His character was complex and his loyalty at first was shaky but in the end Dutton appreciated him. He put his ass on the line to get those responsible for his assassination attempt by the militia.

Nit picking the spelling was irrelevant as the emotion attached to the thought, in the message was well understood by the apparent many of us "less intellectually gifted". 3. Characters, in series and movies, are removed, i.e., "killed off", from future episodes or production for a myriad of reasons. SO, RJ SAMCRO, like the rest of us who watched these clips, if not having seen the original airing of this scene, was observant enough to know Donnie was "killed of" by the writer and the bad guys and NOT by the Duttons. Besides, John and Donnie had been working slowly but steadily in rekindling their friendship. 4. Lastly, y'all have a good day now, hear.:)

@@mussatorre There is no easy win. They know there is a cop, they are jumpy, probably drug addict drifters, they will take a hostage at the very least when they leave. They know the cop has seen their faces and will probably execute him on the spot. Now if those guys are part of the bad guy crew they will execute everyone in the dinner for seeing their faces as they are only there to make it look like a robbery gone wrong. Either way, the Sheriff will be killed on the spot and at least one hostage will be taken and maybe killed. The sheriff has no qualms about dying to keep the community safe, he knew he was dying which is why he was calmly trying to talk to his daughter one last time. This scenario was the only way they had a chance in hell of the Sheriff surviving, and this way no one else got hurt.

At the end, that phone call.. Is a hard lesson about life, you should NEVER avoid answering a phone call just because you're doing something. You never know if that might be somebodies last phone call asking for help or to tell you something before they go to "Meet the Man upstairs / The Almighty".
@vinyltapelover

Corrupted Wesker "...you should NEVER avoid answering a phone call just because you're doing something. You never know if that might be somebodies last phone call... " Truer words have never been spoken. Decades ago when I was a younger man, I had a neighbor, and older gentleman named Ben, who lived across the street from me. We would usually stop what we might each be doing, to talk some and shoot ther stuff. This particular evening, I saw him moving about the outside of his house, preparing it for a family and friends get together. Instead of walking across the street, I figured it would be better not to interrupt him in his tasks and chores and I would just see him "tomorrow". Later, about 11:30 or so, he had a stroke while putting up some decorations inside his house and passed away. I wished I had walked across the street just to say "hello" and turn around and go back home to let him finish what he was doing. Sigh.

There used to be a time when there were no telephones and for the first 70 years of the telephone we did not walk around with them in our pockets. You should not be so tied to your telephone that you miss out on life. That's much more likely to happen than this scenario, that we will get a call from a dying loved one. Yes it can happen (like it did on 9/11) but the vast majority of us will never get a call like that.

@@gregwaldrop3810 "... we did not walk around with them[cell phones] in our pockets. You should not be so tied to your telephone that you miss out on life." I think your thoughts are much appreciated, when addressed as a general reminder and a help tip for all. 'Corrupted Wesker's" comment was a great help tip and reminder to all of us to "..NEVER avoid answering a phone call". That tip can apply to those of us who still have land line service only, like myself, or cell service or even VOIP. Maybe I might be missing a nuance in your thoughts, but I'm a little confused on how you might be seeing either of us are tied to [our] cell phones at the expense of missing all the great things going on around us in this life. Speaking for myself, the loss of my friend Ben happened in 1980, roughly about 3 to 4 years before cell phones were available to consumers. Anyway, thank you for sharing a good comment, maybe just the incorrect target audience.

SLAM BOY "Like Carter said "I know what I want to be, HIM" I thought that was a quiet but powerful scene. The seeds of what he would like to see himself as man have been planted.

Willie Davidson I think Rip was 'Cyclops' (X-Men) laying low with a newer set of dark shades. I don't think there'd be much to find of the sheriff lol.
