When Dae Han approached Tommy and he says, "to save a life in defeat is to earn victory and honor within, your brother too was a great fighter and I deeply regret your loss and I offer myself as your brother" meant he was truly remorseful for his actions against Tommy and his family all those years earlier. Tommy hugging and forgiving him released all the anger that they both were and had been experiencing for years.

I'm 50 today and this movie still touch me as it was when I was a teenager. I love the skill of both men but the end was unexpected. It taught me in life that there is a time when we need to just hold back, and let it go. Revenge is sweet but mercy and compassion is so much sweeter. Man, this movie just hits. You can't really explain why it's so good. It's just magic. Everything in the last 20 years has been such trash, and I don't know why. It's not the internet, it's not society, people want good movies like this no matter how ridiculous they seem. It's almost like they want to demoralize us or something. Man what a bleak future.

Eric Roberts was pathetic, crying and yelling all the time, a horrible example of overacting, besides, guy has no clue about martial arts, let alone TKD. One of, if not THE greatest and most underrated karate films of the 80s/90s. Shame it didn't show the ending where the Korean team put their medals over the Americans heads in acknowledgement that their win was only technical and Tommy could've won it if he'd been willing to really damage Dae Han. That was a pretty original ending for an American martial arts film, which are very rarely, if ever about magnanimity. Even better is the bit where Dae Han walks up to Tommy and tells him that he grieves for the loss of Tommy's brother and offers himself as a surrogate. Real emotional stuff.
