Trucks back then were for the driver noisier, hotter in the summer and colder in the winter, less powerful, more work shifting gears on grades and far less creature comforts than today's "big rigs."

When MEN were MEN...and trucking was Honorable. Citizens could count on a helping hand from a trucker if stranded along America's Highways and Bighways! They respected the Ladies and vice versa. And robbin'...lootin'...stealing trucks and freight was unheard of!

Maybe it's an era, but beyond that it is an example of the human spirit to adapt and overcome challenges. I never fully appreciated the times until years later. It still blows my mind.

It was a great era! Isn't it sad how we tend to take everything for granted while growing up and always end up appreciating things to late?
@scottlaughlin2447

I'm from that era, small engines, twin-sticks, no Jake brakes, no sleepers. No AC, so pulling the mountain grades was hot and so slow the exhaust would often come in through the right door glass. Steering was powered by Armstrong. Two-lane border-to-border and coast-to-coast. Fun city in 3D. And everyone sharing the roads were pissed.

I love your channel.The first truck I ever drove in 1968 was a 1965 Pete Needle nose with a 335 Cummins and twin sticks. Back when trucking was a lifestyle, not just a way of life.

Thanks for the stroll down memory lane. This is what got me into the industry in 70. I retired 4 yrs ago. Let's see some Garrett Air Research trucks if you can find one, or two of them. My first ride was in a KW from Wickenburg, Az, to Desert Center, and back. Thanks again

Technology has its place but the old tried and true had more class. Deregulation also wiped out quite a bit of the history and older firms as I can still remember Motor Transport Co in Milwaukee using round front trailers with the sliding gate and canvas for the rear door until they folded in 1980. When they started they were an affiliate of the local Interurban Railway and the local bus system and their emblem right to the end was still the same. I wound up working for the transit system and drove there and later in the office retiring after 37 years. Miller Brewing uses their old terminal and office building for storing trailers

A LOT Of HARD RIDING, Back Pounding Old Rigs To Be Sure. When A Hard Leather Air Seat Was A Luxury, And Air Ride Suspension Was Virtually Non Existent. Notice These Guys Weren't All FAT Like A Majority Of Drivers Are Today, And The Rigs Had Some Color And Design To Them Back In Those Days From The 30's To The 70's. Now The Majority Are Simply All White. Music Selection Could Have Been Better, But The Photos Are A Treasure Indeed. Good Job...
