Rugged men for a rugged job, like my dad. These trucks were hard work to drive. Notice none of these guys are 300+ lbs!

The "wistful" or bittersweet thing about these wonderful pics, is knowing that all these proud drivers and vehicles are long gone now. But we have the pics to remember them by.

6:48 Looks like its from a Life Magazine article dated June 1, 1959 about the Teamster's Union. I clipped it out and saved it for a while when I was about 12 YO. I really loved trucks when I was a kid.

I am making a diorama of of RT. 49 in pa. in the 1970’s anyone have. Name of trucking company of time that was on RT. 49 at that time or picture of them thank you.

The pride and professionalism of the drivers back then is admirable.I got into the industry 44 years ago. Even in my time I’ve watched the de-evolution of trucking. Crusher caps, uniforms, professional pride replaced by turbans, sweatpants and flip flops. English language optional. Us old guys are the visible minority now.

I love a movie called They drive by night, Humphrey bogart, George Raft about early years of trucking. These videos are just beautiful.

I spent a short time living in a 1958 Autocar that had a conventional cab sleeper . Hauling swinging beef from the cornfields of Iowa to the " dirty side " as it was called back then ! 220 Cummins 10 speed Roadranger .

Sadly the age of the professional driver is gone now you got a bunch of flip flop wearing can’t back up fresh out of some 15 minute driving school retreads clogging up the roads

Along came deregulation that gave every truck driver today their trade. Along came EPA making the grass very brown , CDL making the driver more knowledgeable, ELD making the driver not heroes of the highway but hellions of the highway. Those days are long past gone. The driver today couldn't handle those days.
