Shocking, Capri is a iconic sport coupe in the day , not a bloated SUV that no one wants ?.

Ha, Suffolk born and bred 64 year old here. I can still remember when the headmaster of my primary school (Witnesham) shipped up one day in a brand spanking new Capri, green if I'm not mistaken - must have been 1969/1970. Might as well have been a Ferrari to us kids!

Classic Fords from the 60's, 70's and 80's are making strong money at auctions ........ something tells me this Capri will just get forgotten. It's really difficult to have any emotional attachment to current cars ..... I wish I could impart just 10% of the sheer excitement in 1969 there was when the Ford Capri was launched ..... it truly was quite a special moment ....

I had the pleasure of owning three 2.8i capris, and the joy and excitement of driving them was incredible to me as a twenty something singleton. Over the years I’d hoped Ford would reinvent this icon, perhaps as a muscle-car (like the Mustang) with a pile of HP to the rear wheels. I/we’ve all waited a long time for the new one to arrive, and they deliver…this! It’s not only an embarrassment to the Capri name, it’s an even bigger embarrassment to the Ford brand. RIP Capri and anything else that seems to be spat out of Ford factories.

I don’t mind the Capri being electric, but it would have been much better if it was a 2-door coupe - period. I think a better name for this would have been the Mondeo EV or Sierra EV.

Mondeo kept going in China with mark 6 we not get due to legislation to remove combustion so would never be that. Is a reworked Explorer as a bigger capacity crossover instead of an suv. Could have used another name, it is a very good car but the furore over its name is deflecting from that.

I can't say I understand what Ford are doing reusing their old nameplates on stuff entirely unrelated, but also they stopped making the Capri almost a decade before I was born, and I'm in my mid thirties. I have absolutely zero attachment to the original Capri whatsoever, and I'd imagine the average person that does is probably of an age where they're starting to think about drawing down their pension. It was half a century ago, let it go. As a Ford fan, there's nothing about this appeals to me, because there's nothing about that screams Ford; it's just a VW parts bin special.

Nice to see a proper review of this. We have a neighbour who has an Explorer and although I initially didn’t like the look of it, it’s grown on me and they like the car. The 2 main issues with the Capri (apart from the name of course) are the price and the styling, which is just strange! A block front similar to the Explorer and then a curved back that looks like it’s the result of a cut and shut of two different cars. Sure some will find a home as a company car, but can’t see many private buyers going for this, even with the big discounts there already are.

For those who were around when the original Capri turned its wheels on the near perfect tarmac surfaces. Yes, the new pretender to the name might have lots of storage, but then so did the original, in more chaotic sort of way, and who can forget the cigarette lighter to warm the hands in winter and ashtrays for loose change. 😂

Renault have shown how to bring an old car back as an EV. This is just Ford being too lazy to come up with a new name, and just picking an old one at random, from the list of names they own the rights to. I look forward to the Galaxy coming back as a 2 seater sports car. I do like the yellow though.

I'm old enough to remember the original Capri. While the "halo" RS and 2.8 injection models had real sporting credentials, the vast majority of the Capri's sold were just the Mk2 Cortina "in drag" as they used to say, i.e. with the prettier body. So in that sense the new Capri is no different - take a mainstream family car and put a fast-back body on it.

My mrs is leasing this car on salary sacrifice by pure chance, shes got a really good deal on it, basically will cost her £260 a month including insurance and maintenance, free supply and fit of an ev charger too. We locked some prices in just before christmas and before the prices went up by an extra £100 a month and the capri was the most suited to us (3 kids). We took the car out for a test drive and drove it around the lake district for a day, what a great car it was. Maybe a bit too nice to drive, wasnt particularly exciting but a really "nice" drive, really quick acceleration though. I feel like its getting so much negativity just because of the name. Doesnt bother me though, il definitely be driving it.

Thanks for that figure. When reviewing EVs it is a bit pointless asking "would you buy this ?" Because over 75% of new EVs are leased because of the tax benefits. What will be strange in the future is having to pay "Luxury" car tax on bargain basement EVs. We are already seeing three year old Tesla Model Ys for under £23000.

So I have a number of problems with this car: 1. It's not a Capri. At least Yorkie, with their controversial marketing, was still a Yorkie. It looked and tasted like a Yorkie. You could identify with it. The Capri... Oh dear... It would have made more sense for Ford to say they are moving towards SUV's and this is the next generation Mondeo / Focus than bring back this iconic badge and alienate a number of potential customers. Even calling it the Scorpio, couldn't be worse than the 1996 car. Calling it a Capri...someone should speak to Trading Standards. 2. I don't really know where this fits in the line-up. The Fiesta has been abandoned for the Puma. We have the Kuga. And then we have this. Along with the Explorer and the Mustang Mach E (which is not a Mustang) . What is this supposed to be? What is it supposed to compete with? At least if using the Focus / Mondeo / Scorpio name I'd know where it sits. 3. Electric. I can't get excited about electric cars. I grew up on Camping Holidays in Southern France. I can drive an ICE car from Calais to Nice in around 12 hours with a single 10 minute stop for fuel if I want. And you can't recharge electric cars on camp sites either. Indeed even in the UK, the charging network is shambolic. I live in a new build house. There is a footpath between the house and my driveway. The houses around the corner have a public road between the houses and driveway. 5 years before the ban on ICE cars, the situation for charging eclectic cars, at home and in public remains shambolic. 4. Looks. It may be practical, nut it just looks boring. Plus, being a bit old fashioned, I like hatchbacks, or the versatility of an estate. Ford is alienating some of the client base by abandoning the hatch and estate while those like VAG and Stellantis continue to produce cars in this range, both ICE and electric. 5. Price. I'm sorry, did you say £42,000 - £52,000??? This puts it into a premium car price bracket with the higher rate of car tax for the first 5 years. Meanwhile I could go to Peugeot or Vauxhall and have an ICE car for significantly less money. In short, too expensive. Doesn't really have a place in the market, impractical for my personal needs and not a Capri.

Peace of advice for the reviewer, when you’re talking about things like the centre console, digital drivers display etc, make ensure the camera is panned on the bit you’re reviewing, when you punt your camera on the window it’s no point because it’s hard to make sense of what you’re talking about. May I suggest watch videos by Carwow and Autotrader to see how they focus on the bits they’re talking about rather than putting the camera somewhere it becomes difficult to see as a viewer.

It seems you have picked a particular video where I didn’t use quite as many cut-aways as normal, I urge you to watch another one of my videos where I do this a bit more. The big difference with the channels you’ve mentioned is they have LOTS of people behind the scenes. I script, present, film and edit all of my content. @ sorry I didn’t mean to come across as overtly judgemental. I’ve seen your videos and you’re one of the presenters who I believe has the capability to engage your audience. I just wanted to suggest as these small things tend to make you close the videos as an audience. As you’re also by yourself at the time of filming may I please suggest that you do multiple shots for a few seconds rather than one long shot over a few minutes. Multiple shots will help break the monotony and also will help you to pinpoint a specific feature in the car whilst you explain in the background. Sorry personally I think wide angle shots work when you’re talking about things like the road presence or striking looks of a car. Once again sorry if I came across a bit overly negative….. LOVE

What a great looking car and fair play to Ford for being brave enough to bring back the Capri name, too. In the beginning, I was not so sure in it, but it has grown on me, and it's much nicer looking than the square feonted Explorer. I would have one of these over the Explorer.

This car is a great comfortable family car. I guess the Capri name contradicts because the original Capri was a naughty sporty car. This one is a civilised family car. Personally, I prefer the Explorer because it is smaller and more convenient to move in the city. Regadless, I am tempted to ask you two questions: Among the Tesla Model Y, VW ID 5, Skoda Enyaq and Capri, which one would you pick and why? Between the Capri and the Mach-E, which one would you pick and why?

Great question! I would have the Skoda with tan leather, without having to think about it. I really like the more traditional, plush feelings of Skoda’s and I think the updated model is the best looking too. Second question is a tougher one and I think completely depends on how many miles I would be doing. Right now, practicality would lean me towards the Explorer for the extra range and space but if I didn’t have to worry about how many miles the car could do, I think the Mustang is a much better looking car and more fun drive.

Hi Tish, a great car review as always. I have to admit though, I'd rather have an old Tickford tuned 2.8i Capri for the money. You need to do a review of the Volvo XC40 when you get a chance. 🙏

Ford have lost the plot. Boring, bland and haptic buttons sum it up. Can’t think of anything I like about it.
