I caught my first flounder this weekend and it makes sense because the area I caught it I was randomly casting a lure at a choke point next to an oyster bed. Now that I know that’s a hot spot for them I’ll be going back. Thanks for the info!!

As a Diver who use to dive at night around shipwrecks in the Gulf of Mexico from 55' to 122 ft deep and around Rigs and Piers I totally agree...! They would be laying in any open flat place on the ocean floor in or around Rigs Wrecks Piers Ect. And I have watched their eyes move independent of each other (Really Cool) As I have held my Dive light on them before I would stick them with my Pole spear and stack them up like pancakes. Miss that more than anything. I Love Flounder

Holy heck, you are brave to dive at night. I would be chicken poop to even think about it and not seeing the menaces like bull sharks around me.

@icarussisyphus5201 In all my years of diving at night for Flounder on the ocean floor around Liberty ships 440 ft long and all the other wrecks I never once seen any predator shark 🦈 NOT ONE... they don't like the dive lights..! Had some interesting encounters during the day but never seen one at night. I say it's safer at night. !

I especially like your on the water video going over what you were talking about and showing in the video the areas and pointing out the choke point at the areas. keep up the great work. Waiting for your educational tutorials on locating and catching red and black drum in the Carolinas.

Nice to hear explanation of structure instead of just watching some guy bail fish. Much as I admire Skinner he doesn't explain why he's fishing where he's fishing much. If you could talk about the depth of these spots that would definitely add some value. It looks pretty shallow.

I am a newby fisherman looking to focus on flounder and reds. Your videos are great and I am learning a LOT!! I like that you draw arrows and lines to indicate what you are talking about but could you please place a CIRCLE where your cast bait actually enters the water. It is very hard to tell, maybe a tiny splash at best. Thanks!!

if you do not have access to a marsh or creek like this and your out far in the ocean wrecks are also a good thing just put a minnow and squid on in jersey we call it “flounder candy” and you will not catch all of them but you will most likely get on one. We usually will catch a lot of skate but there are always a couple flounder down there

It has a lot of trees around but not really any other structure. Mud bottom. What is the best tactic to target the flounder there?

definitely would be to use a jighead on a paddletail presentation, like the slam shady 2.0, bouncing along the bottom with a slow retrieve. 💪

They are impervious to strong current and can feed in the rips. They just lie there and wait for a 'moving bait' to drift over them. You can troll them in bays at high slack water. They love inlets and drop off's, channel edges and, as noted here 'choke points' like behind closed locks waiting to move through. With strip baits learn to 'drop back'. They like to feed from the tail (stinger hooks work well). The belly makes a good strip bait.

@@Hisslave1 well hes right. Obviously you havent watched the video.(although I'm not really interested in how they do it in NJ. The guy slams them right off his dock) They definitely chase/follow the bait. Big difference when your talking artificial vs live bait. Maybe because a live baitfish will run from it and with artificial is a slower moving bait intended to let them catch it. Anyway great vid and he knows what hes doing and might help where I fish in tarpon springs, fla. I've caught thousands of snook in my years and dont really care for trout ir reds because you cant keep or eat jack crap around here so I'm 100% shifting to flounder. Only problem is I'm floundering around In trying to find/catch them. I've only caught a few and they were all by accident. At least now I have something to focus on. Anyway GREAT VID and prob one of the most knowledgable one I've seen yet. Thank you sir!👍
