3:05 The lady at the gudeg restaurant "Bu Slamet" tried to tell you about the photo of an elderly woman, who (I'm guessing here because this particular part of her explanation was cut off from your video) appears to be Mrs. Slamet, the original owner lady who opened this restaurant back in 1946 (maybe she is the mother of the current owner lady ?). The lady said the photo was taken on site, at this very restaurant by Mr. Sigit Pramono, a famous Indonesian photographer. She then showed you the angle from which the photo was taken, as you can recognize the similar patterns of the wall tiles in the photo and the wall tiles at the restaurant. She said the woman in the photo was 104 years old at the time the photo was taken. It could be that Mr. Pramono once visited and ate gudeg at her restaurant and he liked it so much that he wanted to show his appreciation by photographing the elder owner lady (Mrs. Slamet, the mother of the current owner lady) and then giving her the photo. The current lady was so proud and felt very honoured that a famous photographer took her mother's photo and then gave the photo to her as a gift.

Ok, noted! We try to make the videos the perfect length for the activities planned so no one gets bored! But we hope to have longer videos someday as well. Maybe if we are able to visit Jogja again to see the beautiful temples, we can make a longer video! Thank you so much for the kind words and for watching our adventure! 🥰

Aww we wish Mike had done our itinerary for JogJa! 😅 We stayed around Malioboro area and didn’t explore much more of the city.. We did really enjoy the city and explored the outskirts like Borobudur and stuff but think we definitely have to come back! Great vlog guys! 😍

@@mikeandashley hope u enjoy your visit in Indonesia. Oh yeah need to clear something up, there is two kind of tape 1. Fermented cassava ( u can find this on ice dessert ) 2. Fermented rice ( sometime people eat this with glutinous rice, or in the drink at angkringan)

4:59 "its actually the only Sultan that reigns in southeast asia" Brunei Sultan and 9 malaysian sultans: 🗿 no dear, the Sultan of Jogja is the only sultan in Indonesia who has absolute authority over his territory, there are many other sultans in Indonesia, but they do not have absolute authority like jogja, only as traditional leaders.

Yeah, I'm embarrassed to say I got that wrong. I'm not even sure how I got confused because I already knew there was a Sultan of Brunei. 😅🙈

The gudeg there are a few variations depending who sell it...the wijilan one is dry.... there are other seller who goes heavy on the coconut gravy. But the wijilan one is the dry version. Gudeg in jogja is the sweet version ... if u buy in solo it is a tad bit more savory ^^
@mikeandashley10 ай бұрын
Oh, interesting! I (Ashley) would be keen to try the more savory version. The sweet version was good, but maybe a little too sweet for my tastes. 🥰

In my personal opinion, When you’re visited a new places as a tourist and you really wanna know the locals, Market is the best place to start. And speaking about the spicy thing, If you’re ain’t really a spicy fan and people asked you how spicy level you wanna get, just say 1 level ‘Cause 5 level is for the Indonesian 😅

FYI, Yogyakarta people speaks Javanese. It's a completely different language than Indonesian. Older Javanese usually doesnt speaks Indonesian, but younger ones do speak Indonesian. It happens in all parts of Indonesia. We can say, Indonesian people usually are bilingual or multilingual.
@mikeandashley10 ай бұрын
Ah, thank you for clarifying. 🙏 We weren't sure if people were speaking Bahasa Indonesia or Javanese. Are the languages much different from one another? We would love to be bilingual, but sadly, we only know English and very small amounts of other languages. 🥲

This is nice, really. Anyway, generally there are 2 types of Gudeg out there. One is the so called dry one, just like the one you tried on this video. Another one is the one that is a bit more wet. The wetter one is the one where you can get hints of savory instead of just sweet. If im not mistaken, Gudeg Permata is one of many places where you can find the savory one.
@mikeandashleyАй бұрын
Thanks for the tip! We would love to try the less sweet version. 😊
