Not only is the craftsmanship impressive, but your vocabulary! You’re the type of person that could write manuals. The way you just rattle off terms for each part or action. SO PROFESSIONAL.

Good day sir! Thank you for the kind words. I spent forty years in commercial construction, so maybe that help me a little. But I had never tried repairing a canopy. Turned out it was pretty simple. I hope this helps someone repairing theirs! Thanks for watching and commenting! Have a great day!

Thanks. I had a similar break and used a length of 1/2” copper pipe which was a perfect fit and used pop rivets for securing it. The 3/4” copper was way too big. I placed the 1/2” in a vise to slowly flatten it to that oval shape which was the same as the tube. Great presentation.

Yup! I bought a canopy from academy worth a little over $100. I’m not about to purchase a new one. I’m gonna fix it myself thanks to you 😊. Now I really have a reason to go to HF again for the 5 time this week 😅 thanks for the video

You just saved me a lot of frustration. My 10 x 30 pop up canopy broke during disassembly after the first use. The seller has not been helpful, but we love the tent. This is a step-by-step guide to "MacGyver" the truss back into use. Thanks!

Hi Scott, I had the same problem, could find replacement parts! I think this fix is pretty solid. And it looks so much cleaner than the other videos I found on youtube. Good luck on your repair. Let me know how it turns out! Thanks for commenting and watching.

@@retirementwithpete9859 The repair went well! Worked like a charm. My trusses had an internal sleeve where the big hole was so I had to grind down the aluminum a little so it would fit. I do wonder if steel would have been better than aluminum for better lateral strength. I also bought a spray can of glossy enamel white paint. I should have taken some pictures. I also was able to do a little tac weld after it was all riveted back together. Solid repair....thanks for the idea.

Great video! Very cool! THANK YOU! I only had mine a month. $59.00 from Walmart. We had a bad thunderstorm overnight, it filled up with water and collapsed. And it looks like it broke same as yours, only in two spots.

Yes Sir! Just bought a rivet gun yesterday. Thanks for the rivet tutorial, I had no idea what to do with it. Any special reason why you did not rivet through all the way?
@retirementwithpete9859
@retirementwithpete9859 2 жыл бұрын
You can definitely run the rivet all the way through, if you have a long enough rivet. I wanted to see if I could do a non-visual repair. The back side of the rivet is not real pretty. If this is your first attempt using a rivet gun, I would try practicing on some scrap material. Anything will do. Once you get the hang of it, they are pretty cool. We used them alot in the trade I retired from. I was a union glazier, for the same shop, for over 40 years. Please let me know if you have any questions on your repair! I really like to help. And Im always interested in where my viewers live. I live outside the small town of Boring, Oregon. Thats right, its called Boring😄. Good luck!

Thanks that it worked a treat and did not even have to dismantle it by threading a 300mm bar into one section then pulling it back with a shoelace threaded through hole in centre for bolt. Have not put it up yet after mend but should be fine as it was not too bad even with break.

Thank you so much for this video. I run a market and had 1 market and because of wind, many tents were damaged. I didn't want to have to purchase new ones, so this makes me very happy. Do you know where I can purchase the metal that you show? Do you know where I can purchase the rubber sleeves where the bolts are?

I went to Amazon, and searched for canopy truss replacement parts. A wide variety of parts came up. I was not able to find my exact length, so I just spliced mine. You may have to do the same to yours. Good luck on the repair. Its really not that difficult!!

Our tent was closed wrong and now it's broke we only used it 3 times I believe the metal needs to be blowtorch together again I don't know if my husband can fix it.

Hi Korena, thats pretty frustrating. My motto is when it comes to fixing things is, " I cant break it any more than it already is". So I would definately give it a try. By " blowtorch" im assuming you mean welding. Im no welder, but the metal is very thin, and Im not sure you can repair it by welding. So what the heck, before you throw it away, buy some metal flat bar and some screws or pop rivots and give it a try. Follow my video, and you should be able to repair it. Heres another thought. I tried to replace the broken part with a new one. But I couldnt find a long enough piece of metal on Amazon. Probably because our canopy is over 10 years old. I would measure the length of your broken metal, and search on Amazon. Its called a " pop up canopy replacement truss." If your fortunate enough to find the right size, just unscrew the old one and replace it. And if you find one longer than yours, just buy it and cut it down with a hack saw. You may have to cut it on both ends, to keep the hole in the center. Thanks for watching and commenting. Good luck!!

Would copper be ok in the rain? It’s the rain that broke my canopy in the first place!
@retirementwithpete9859
@retirementwithpete9859 11 ай бұрын
Copper is plenty strong enough. But if the rain water is allowed to pool on top of the fabric, then the weakest link in the frame, is going to break first. Just make sure the canopy fabric is pulled tight, to prevent the pooling of water. Then your repair will hold up fine, no matter what you use. Hope this helps. If not, send another question!! Thanks for watching.

That is great info. Copper is way easier to work with than the aluminum flat bar!! Its good to know that 1/2" is the size to use. Its a great fix for saving all these broken canopy trusses. Thanks for sharing and watching!!
