Purchased: August 2022 - still works GREAT! kzbin.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn I live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install.This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment.I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

I have the Danby branded version of this exact thing. Hooked it up yesterday. An important consideration is whether my "solar generator" can run it. Yes, it can! This unit has a soft start feature that ramps up the fan speed and compressor speed. It reached about a kilowatt of power consumption after a minute or so. It also does not dim the lights as it cycles on and off; this one doesn't seem to cycle at all; just ramps up and down the compressor barely noticeable. The dual host configuration made a big difference, more than I anticipated. By NOT pulling in warm outside air the room stays cooler even when the unit is off. The one it replaced, a single host 12000 BTU, would pull in so much warm air that it was nearly ineffective except in its immediate vicinity. So, I am very happy. Inverter technology CAN fail abruptly more often than simple electric motor technology but overall I am delighted with it.

I have a small 12,000btu portable unit like that for my sunroom in Florida. It also is a handy backup unit than can run off a small generator if needed. Won’t cool a whole house but cools my whole downstairs just fine while running off a single Honda eu2000i. In the South AC is pretty critical so it’s certainly handy. Also can roll it in the garage when working on the car.

This exact model is actually made by a reputable industrial air conditioning company, but sells under multiple different brands. One of them being toshiba. I got the Toshiba one. But it's actually identical in every way. Love it. The same temperature and humidity outside, running for 3 Days used half the power to maintain 73 degrees as a single hose Toshiba unit

@@Edgotfed It was leaking refrigerant into the air which is a hazard. Smelled like grass clippings which if you google is refrigerant. I started having low blood oxygen levels so I knew something was wrong. I bought a detector off Amazon and it confirmed that there was a leak at the top of the unit. It did not cool my apartment and the room it was cooling was only 400 sqft. The dual hoses had gaps between the unit and the hose connector so it was leaking hot air out which they said was normal. The customer service was horrible. One rep told me it was normal, another told me return it, and another told me it sounded like a leak but maybe it wasn’t. I bought it from Best Buy. Returning it was a mess. I was on the phone for a week straight being transferred back and forth between Best Buy and ups. Ups wouldn’t take it back cause the box wasn’t “correct”. and Best Buy has yet to refund me. I was unable to put it into my car to return to the store and nobody could lift it as it’s way too heavy so UPS was the only option. My friend has a whynter ac one hose unit from 2015 and it actually works. This unit was horrible or at least I got a defective one. I’m just sticking to fans and hopefully finding a better dual hose AC one day just not buying from Best Buy ever again. Dealing with UPS was the worst part of all of this.

Inverter units are the only way to go, when you can get one. I swapped out a 10K BTU Crosley/Whirlpool window unit this summer for a 12K BTU Inverter-based Midea unit. It was under $350 from Costco. Not only is it MUCH quieter, it's saving me about $35 a month in electricity costs. Crazy!!

Interestingly, the remote CS shows for this portable unit is basically identical to the one for my Midea window unit. It makes me wonder just how many (or few) manufacturers are even building these things, although, it's also possible the remotes are simply from a separate OEM and share a common lineage.

I completely agree. Midea makes something like 95% of the worlds air condtiioners and 70% of those are labelled for someone else. This one is interesting since Midea doesn't even sell it themselves under thier name, this feels like a portable version of their very famouse u-shaped model which is amazing. I am currently cooling my entire downstairs with the 12k model shown and the Midea window Ushaper 12k.

This is made by Midea. They also have the same one branded with the Toshiba name as well. I bought mine at Wal-Mart a few months ago as a refurbished model for $419. I've been using it to cool a 2000SF...yes, 2,000 SF area in Colorado and it performs perfectly even at temps in the mid 90's. Keep in mind this is a well insulated home with 2x6 construction and most windows blocked from direct sunlight entry. This unit puts out a LOT of ice cold air! The Toshiba model (and also the Midea) also has a heat pump function which I'll be testing in about a month. I did test it one cool July night at 50F and it heated the room very fast. The inverter feature is awesome. I have this plugged into my Kill-A-Watt and I routinely measure readings of 300-700 watts while it's cooling. Long story short? An amazing amount of cooling for very little electricity!

Right, all portables are shoddy bandaids to the real problem of landlords who buy literal garbage houses knowing full well that the tenant will be the one shafted with utility bills. They prefer it, even... because it keeps renters poor and ensures they won't be able to buy their own house that they can insulate. Then there are renters like us... who do functional, up-to-code improvements for the time we're renting, keeping all original parts so that when we buy our houses with the $600 a month we saved not having to run sixteen single hose portables, we'll just slap the shitbox back together with that crap that was there and take the improvements to our new house. And the landlords aren't even smart enough to know which of their "investment proporties" had which fittings, so they wouldn't even know when do change something to improve our use of the space that we pay to have full, complete and unfettered access to use and be comfortable in. lol

Looked at the entire Amazon ad, and opened the 2 PDF attachments. The most info your get is "Energy Star 5 Star". That doesn't tell you squat! This is 2022, the Yellow Tag is mandatory. I refuse to buy a product without this info. Hats off to Randy BoBandy, who posted the info below; EER of 8.5 which is pathetic! My 8K Media is 15.0, the best out there for a window unit! (Silver has one of these also as I recall.) Further on Amazon, they actually try to bundle a single hose extension, which will not work with this unit. They also try to bundle a sliding door kit...same issue, this custom "hose within a hose" will not fit! Buyer beware! Great review on the positive aspects of this unit, Silver.

My central air went bad. I removed the HVAC unit. Everything got capped off. I use a Hisense portable air conditioner. It's the largest one they make. Mine only stretches out 3 feet. This prevents house vacuum. 2 of these units will cool my whole house. 🐀🐾

Only thing is I think the large apartment windows (24'x6' glass wall, facing SE) are affecting its monitoring of room temperature and is always running. In Asia inverter-controlled appliances have been very common for a decade or so. AC, fridge, laundry, oven, microwave, fans, even rice cookers are inverter controlled. I guess the energy price hike finally got the US market interested in conserving energy.

You guys have been way ahead of us for ages. I knew a girl from thailand decades ago that asked why our AC was in the floor and didn't the vents get filthy. She was right on both counts, and she told me about mini-splits and that they are the norm there now decades later we are catching up to that and now the same with inverters. Not sure why it takes us so long.

I've had a duel hose (Two separate hoses) portable AC for 10 years. Works great no problems. It's a energy hog, so I'm looking to upgrade. So long as you go for the most powerful (BTU) regardless of need, I think these will satisfy.

I modified a single-hose unit I got from Costco to be dual-hose with some duct from Home Depot, it’s ugly af and the cardboard casement window adapter I made doesn’t look too great either, but it works great. I even designed and 3D printed a quick disconnect for the second duct to make storage easier.

This unit stopped self evaporating for me after 3 months. I suspect the motor that pumps water from the condensate drain pan over the hot coils failed. It would collect enough water to generate the P1 code in like 45 mins of running. Very frustrating to lug a 70-80lb machine for return
@SilverCymbal
@SilverCymbal Жыл бұрын
I think there was an early version of this machine. I never used any drain but only operated it as ACs and these were the best acs I have ever tested for a portable. I would write them and try to just get them to send you a replacement or write them through Amazon.

Man I REALLY wanted to go with this one, but at $659.99 PLUS tax on Amazon (current price) it was just a bit too expensive with all the other things I have going on right now.... So I settled on one of the "compact" Honeywell units (9,100 BTU) for about half that price & hopefully it will hold me over for now lol. The room I'm using it in is only about 135 square feet, so I'm thinking it hopefully should be more than enough to keep this ONE room cool w/o having to run it at full blast 24/7. Hopefully can come back & grab THIS model in the near future though because I really wanted that dual hose AND inverter, & the Honeywell has neither smh lol.

I love these dual hose, a lot of power and very cold air, but my house, a new build, does not support 12 amps or higher and kept tripping the breaker over and over, so I had to return my dual hose portable AC to home depot for a 5000 BTU that wouldn't keep tripping the breaker.

I have the toshiba version. Same unit, different name. Since it is inverter it adjusts the compressor speed as needed. It will pull anywhere between 190-1300w depending on the cooling load. (yes, 190w does include the compressor.) Low fan speed will force the compressor to run at a low speed, keeping the unit under 500w.

Does your RV not have AC? Most of them do nowadays unless it's some classic model. If you can't use a window unit, you can't use this either. It draws more current. 12 amps I believe.
