Curently I do 6-8 reps with heavy weights and also focus on achieving mind/muscle connection with correct technique. For Newbie, I as well would recommend high rep range with less weight

You are absolutely right. During my beginner time we would do 15-20 reps with incorrect form. As soon as i corrected the form, reps decreased to 10-15 but the muscle activation felt lot good than before.

Yes, it's fine. Most studies suggest that you go till failure or just one rep less than failure. Your rep range is good.
