BEST Rolex/Tudor Spring Bar Tool: Better Than Bergeon 7825?

This looks great and seem to work very well. I’ve had a lot of scratched lugs and so the trick is to take your time. Tape up your lugs with 2 layers of masking tape, put tape over the back of the case as well. Trust me, when you take a short cut, that part you don’t protect will get scratched. Something will happen and it will slip one of these days. The tool compressed the spring bars during reassembly but the bars still rests on the lugs as it’s being compressed. Also during removal, I would not press down, instead I would hold the lug, compress the spring bars then lift up, this way you clear the tool away from the watch as fast as possible and and you don’t risk scratching the case surface between the lugs. You don’t have to disengage the clasp from the bracelet but I find doing so makes it so much easier with the bracelet laying flat and out of your ways and you don’t have to worry about it hitting the case back. These are all tips and tricks I have learned and yes, I have super OCD and I enjoy my watches in perfect condition so after many stressful moments and regrets including sending it in for a refinish that costs hundreds because of a lug scratch I have learned to stop, relax, do it when you have plenty of time and no one is bothering you. It’s like painting your walls, take your time to tape everything up and you will be much happier with the results.

Haha yes, it looks indeed like you have super OCD and am surprised you had even tried to do it yourself in the first place then, especially after scratching the lugs a few times! I feel your pain and I wish all watches had "easy link" removable bracelet and straps from now on, it should be made a Swiss legal requirement! For this tool, yes when you put the bracelet back as you compress the spring bars, you will not scratch the back of the lugs since the 2 prongs can't scratch them, but indeed the tips of the spring bars will touch the INSIDE of the lugs, which is inevitable anyway but that's something you cannot see, unlike the back of the lugs.

Thanks for the in depth review. Bergeon does make excellent quality tools however for the home watchmaker hobbyist like myself their prices have me often looking at Hotech and AF Switzerland as well as other off brands that Cousins UK, Jules Borel, Otto Frei and Esslinger sells that accomplish the same tasks. I have a old japanese made tweezer and prefer it to my Dumont *2 for general work so I would not hesitate on Japan made tools. BTW, Rolex originally had the best design which ran sevaral decades with the drilled through lugs which could be removed with a simple no scratch toothpick.

Great video. I have the Bergeon 7825, and it has worked fine for Rolex. I protect the lugs with tape to be safe. But the 7825 is difficult to handle with Omega spring bars that don't have the second "ring" to grab the bar. Any suggestions for Omega? Also, I tried to order this one but it is not listed and they don't respond. Thanks

Yes, they confirmed to me that it works on all major brands at least, including Grand Seiko. I've had viewers using it on a wide range of brands, there is nothing "proprietary" Rolex or Tudor on it, just that it was developed for Rolex/Tudor bracelets so the fork tips are best suited for those spring bars.
