You don't need to use the tool to put on a leather strap. Just use your fingernail to compress the springbar. No scratches. Also, when you use the tweezers, compress the springbar and keep that stationary, but move the watch head away instead. That's easiest.

You are right about the fingernail. It's much easier getting on the leather strap on the watch head. Much more difficult to get the original steel bracelet OFF the watch head, even when using the correct Bergeon tool.

Pushing the endlink out to the front like that will create two pit marks on the inside of the top of the lugs as the springbar releases.

A suggestion: next time unscrew or remove the pin on the bracelet itself so you have a better view on both sides. Cheers

You are supposed to unlink the bracelet before you do this so you have easier access to the pins.
