I'm going with a 7900 XT, it's $850 (converted) in my area and that's about as high as I'm willing to go. Team green lost me with their ridiculous pricing, to get similar performance as the XT outside of raytracing I'd need the 4080 Super which is $1400. The 9800x3d isn't exactly cheap either, but premium CPUs make much more sense in my mind since it's not a part that needs upgrading as often.

Actually Jason since Zen4 the IF is decoupled, if you look at in-depth reviews the IF is double rate half width, nevermind the data transfer through the IOD. It simply isn't synchronous, DRAM has high burst rates but is slow changing cacheline. Buildzoid did an in-depth on Zen memory over-clocking and the key is to run the bottle neck memory controller as fast as it can reach stably. Some reviewers had great results tightening timings and pushing DRAM to 6400 improving 9700x performance greatly. The problem naturally is YMMV, other chips may simply not reach 6400.
@atirta777
@atirta777 2 ай бұрын
FYI, at DDR5-8000 you should have the FCLK at 2000MHz because in 2:1 mode that equals a 1:1 ratio between the memory controller and the infinity fabric. This way you get lower latency, so DDR5-8000 is quite a bit faster than DDR5-6000, unless it's not actually fully stable, because you also need quite a good motherboard to be able to run 8000. (To be clear, it's still not worth the extra $100-$150 for the DDR5-8000 kit)

It's always good to have a separate drive for the os and apps, and another one used only for user data. Simplifies backup and recovery immensely. Also, this automatically results in a larger amount of free space on both drives which is good for them (not so big of a deal if you're single drive is 4tb, of course)

I just upgraded from a 5800x to the 9800x3d. I wanted to move into the AM5 socket. I went with the Gigabite x870e Aorus pro ice as I have a Hyte 70 Touch in white. The CPU is amazing. Even though I know I'm a little light on my GPU as I'm running a 6900xt, I have noticed in 1440p Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogworts both run better with over 80 to 100 fps. Even with a little Ray Tracing on I can still get 50 plus FPS. Now I'm just waiting to see what AMD brings out with their new GPU's.

I’m in the process of upgrading my 2016 custom built PC that still rocks a GTX1080. I have a 9800X3D that I got at MSRP of $479 from Amazon few weeks ago before prices went insane t none available. This video helped me solidify the Motherboard and RAM option. Think I’ll go with the MSI B650 Tomahawk WiFi . I don’t yet have a consensus for a GPU. So guess I’ll have to watch more vids to narrow down a really good GPU. I have a CaseLabs case, so I never have to ever buy a new one in rest my lifetime.

it depends on what resolution u want to play at. For 1440p i would stay away from the top end cards like 4090 or 7900XTX, they are overkill and way to expensive to not use fully. ;, a 4070ti or 7900GRE is plenty to run anything on ultra on 1440p

Just ordered 9800X3d for $459 from Amazon. Pairing with Gigabyte X870E AORUS Elite & 32GB of TEAMGROUP CL30 DDR5. For now I'm keeping my Gigabyte 4070. Upgrading from 13700k in Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX DDR4. Planning on buying the new 8800XT when it's released but we'll see what it really is when it's out. Update: Shortly after my original post Amazon canceled my 9800X3D order, my guess it went out of stock. I then cancelled the Mobo, RAM and cooler I'd ordered for the build. I was a bit bummed...but really my current build is really OK and doing well. The new build would've been better but not vital. For now I decided to enjoy what I have; after all, the 13700K was the thing to have 2 years ago. It still works great.

If you like that board and can grab it, go for it. Only 2 audio capacitors for a $349 board isn't my favorite, though if you don't need the onboard audio it does have a lot of connectivity. X670E tomahawk on sale right now for $239 with very similar features.

Looking for some perspective without any hate because I genuinely would like to understand it. I totally understand only testing at low resolution to get the most accurate results for a specific CPU. You're basically putting max pressure on said CPU workload. And I get why the majority do that. Me personally, I want to see BOTH types of benchmarking, because I do see interesting results when you benchmark at higher resolutions, sometimes you see results that don't quite make sense if you are in the "only benchmark in low resolution" camp. I want both types of benchmarking because I have a 4090 and 7900x3d (I only have the 7900x3d because my 7800x3d died and I had to send it in for replacement, but they only had 7900x3ds in stock...). I'm considering upgrading to a 9800x3d IF the results in real world (I play 4k resolution) actually warrant it. I understand playing in 4k is going to limit basically every game because they are going to be GPU bound. But I am just trying to understand why some results show for example, my 7900x3d have better results at higher resolution than the 9800x3d or 7800x3d. Silicon lottery? I have no idea. I would genuinely like to know from someone truly knowledgeable in that category, because I don't wanna spend a lot of money on a 9800x3d if it's not going to help in my particular situation playing in 4k. Why in certain scenarios, is a 7900x3d outperforming a 9800x3d at higher resolutions in the same game?
